Mundaka 2.06
एह्येहीति तमाहुतयः सुवर्चसः सूर्यस्य रश्मिभिर्यजमानं वहन्ति। प्रियां वाचमभिवदन्त्योऽर्चयन्त्यः एष वः पुण्यः सुकृतो ब्रह्मलोकः ॥६॥
ehyehīti tamāhutayaḥ suvarcasaḥ sūryasya raśmibhiryajamānaṃ vahanti। priyāṃ vācamabhivadantyo'rcayantyaḥ eṣa vaḥ puṇyaḥ sukṛto brahmalokaḥ ॥6॥
[एहि (ehi) - come; एहि (ehi) - come; इति (iti) - thus; तम् (tam) - him; आहुतयः (āhutayaḥ) - oblations; सुवर्चसः (suvarcasaḥ) - brilliant; सूर्यस्य (sūryasya) - of the sun; रश्मिभिः (raśmibhiḥ) - by the rays; यजमानम् (yajamānam) - the sacrificer; वहन्ति (vahanti) - carry; प्रियाम् (priyām) - dear; वाचम् (vācam) - speech; अभिवदन्त्यः (abhivadantyaḥ) - uttering; अर्चयन्त्यः (arcayantyaḥ) - worshipping; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; वः (vaḥ) - your; पुण्यः (puṇyaḥ) - holy; सुकृतः (sukṛtaḥ) - well-done; ब्रह्मलोकः (brahmalokaḥ) - supreme Brahman world;]
The brilliant oblations carry the sacrificer by the sun's rays, inviting him, saying, 'Come, come'. They utter dear words and worship; this is your sacred and well-earned world of the Supreme Brahman.
Bhāshya 2.06
The 'brahmalokaḥ' mentioned in the context is the supreme world of Brahman. It is got by performing virtuous deeds related to topics concerning the Lord. Various testimonials are quoted to emphasize that even while one delights in ātman within, the wise person should act and perform his duties unattached, worshiping the Ātmān only as the world.
भगवद्विषयत्वेन कृतः एष वः पुण्यः सुकृतः ब्रह्मलोकः - परब्रह्मलोकः।
bhagavad-viṣayatvena kṛtaḥ eṣa vaḥ puṇyaḥ sukṛtaḥ brahmalokaḥ - parabrahmalokaḥ।
[भगवद्विषयत्वेन (bhagavad-viṣayatvena) - by being related to God; कृतः (kṛtaḥ) - made; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; वः (vaḥ) - your; पुण्यः (puṇyaḥ) - holy; सुकृतः (sukṛtaḥ) - virtuous, grace; ब्रह्मलोकः (brahmalokaḥ) - the world of Brahma; परब्रह्मलोकः (parabrahmalokaḥ) - the supreme world of Brahma;]
The 'brahmalokaḥ' is obtained by virtuous deeds performed related to topics concerning the Lord, hence it is nothing but the supreme world of Brahman.
"निष्कामं ज्ञानपूर्वं च निवृत्तमिति चोच्यते। निवृत्तं सेवमानस्तु ब्रह्माभ्येति सनातनम्॥"
"niṣkāmaṃ jñānapūrvaṃ ca nivṛttamiti cocyate। nivṛttaṃ sevamānastu brahmābhyeti sanātanam॥"
[निष्कामम् (niṣkāmam) - without desire; ज्ञानपूर्वम् (jñānapūrvam) - preceded by knowledge; च (ca) - and; निवृत्तम् (nivṛttam) - withdrawn; इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and; उच्यते (ucyate) - is said; निवृत्तम् (nivṛttam) - withdrawn; सेवमानः (sevamānaḥ) - one who serves; तु (tu) - but; ब्रह्म (brahma) - the Absolute; अभ्येति (abhyeti) - attains; सनातनम् (sanātanam) - eternal;]
"The one who is without desire, and always with knowledge, is said to be withdrawn. But the one who serves the withdrawn attains the eternal Absolute."
इति हि व्यासस्मृतिः।
iti hi vyāsasmṛtiḥ।
[इति (iti) - thus; हि (hi) - indeed; व्यासस्मृतिः (vyāsasmṛtiḥ) - Vyasa's scripture;]
- indeed, stated thus in the Vyasa scripture.
"स य आत्मानमेव लोकमुपास्ते न हास्य कर्म क्षीयते॥"
"sa ya ātmānam-eva lokam-upāste na ha asya karma kṣīyate॥"
[स (sa) - he; यः (yaḥ) - who; आत्मानम् (ātmānam) - ātman; एव (eva) - only; लोकम् (lokam) - world; उपास्ते (upāste) - worships; न (na) - not; हि (hi) - indeed; अस्य (asya) - his; कर्म (karma) - actions; क्षीयते (kṣīyate) - diminish;]
"He who worships the Ātmān only as the world, indeed his actions do not diminish."
इति च श्रुतिः।

[इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and / as well; श्रुतिः (śrutiḥ) - the Vedic scripture;]

"सहयज्ञाः प्रजाः सृष्ट्वा"

[सह (saha) - with; यज्ञाः (yajñāḥ) - sacrifices; प्रजाः (prajāḥ) - creatures; सृष्ट्वा (sṛṣṭvā) - having created;]
"Having created creatures with sacrifices."

"एवं प्रवर्तितं चक्रं नानुवर्तयतीह यः। अघायुरिन्द्रियारामो मोघं पार्थ स जीवति॥"
"evaṁ pravartitaṁ cakraṁ nānuvartayatīha yaḥ। aghāyurindriyārāmo moghaṁ pārtha sa jīvati॥"
[एवम् (evam) - thus; प्रवर्तितम् (pravartitam) - set in motion; चक्रम् (cakram) - wheel; न (na) - not; अनुवर्तयति (anuvartayati) - follows; इह (iha) - here; यः (yaḥ) - who; अघायुः (aghāyuḥ) - sinful life; इन्द्रियारामः (indriyārāmaḥ) - sensualist; मोघम् (mogham) - in vain; पार्थ (pārtha) - O son of Pṛthā; सः (saḥ) - he; जीवति (jīvati) - lives;]
"O son of Pṛthā, the person who does not follow the cycle set forth lives a life of sensual indulgence and sin, which is in vain."

"यान्ति मद्याजिनोऽपि माम्"
"yānti madyājino'pi mām"
[यान्ति (yānti) - go; मद् (mad) - my; याजिनः (yājinaḥ) - worshippers; अपि (api) - also; माम् (mām) - me;]
"Also, the worshippers of mine go to me."

"अहं हि सर्वयज्ञानां भोक्ता च प्रभुरेव च। न तु मामभिजानन्ति तत्त्वेनातश्च्यवन्ति ते॥"
"ahaṁ hi sarvayajñānāṁ bhoktā ca prabhureva ca। na tu māmabhijānanti tattvenātaścyavanti te॥"
[अहं (ahaṁ) - I; हि (hi) - indeed; सर्वयज्ञानां (sarvayajñānāṁ) - of all sacrifices; भोक्ता (bhoktā) - enjoyer; च (ca) - and; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - lord; एव (eva) - certainly; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; माम् (mām) - me; अभिजानन्ति (abhijānanti) - know; तत्त्वेन (tattvena) - in reality; अतः (ataḥ) - therefore; च्यवन्ति (cyavanti) - fall; ते (te) - they;]
"I am indeed the enjoyer and the lord of all sacrifices, but they do not know me in reality; therefore, they fall."

'यस्त्वात्मरतिः' इत्युक्त्वाऽपि 'कुर्याद्विद्वांस्तथाऽसक्तः' इत्येवोक्तत्वाच्च।
'yastvātmaratiḥ' ityuktvā'pi 'kuryādvidvāṁstathāsaktaḥ' ityevoktavāc ca।
[यः (yaḥ) - who; तु (tu) - but; आत्मरतिः (ātmaratiḥ) - delights in ātman within; इति (iti) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having said; अपि (api) - also; कुर्यात् (kuryāt) - should act; विद्वान् (vidvān) - wise person; तथा (tathā) - thus; असक्तः (asaktaḥ) - unattached; इति (iti) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; उक्तत्वात् (uktatvāt) - because of being said; च (ca) - and;]
Even After saying 'on who delights in ātman within' it is prescribed 'the wise person should act thus unattached.'
"ये त्वेतदभ्यसूयन्तो नानुतिष्ठन्ति मे मतम्। सर्वज्ञानविमूढांस्तान्विद्धि नष्टानचेतसः॥"
"ye tv etad abhyasūyanto nānutiṣṭhanti me matam। sarvajñānavimūḍhāṁs tān viddhi naṣṭān acetasaḥ॥"
[ये (ye) - those who; तु (tu) - but; एतत् (etat) - this; अभ्यसूयन्तः (abhyasūyantaḥ) - envious; न (na) - not; अनुतिष्ठन्ति (anutiṣṭhanti) - follow; मे (me) - my; मतम् (matam) - opinion; सर्वज्ञानविमूढान् (sarvajñānavimūḍhān) - devoid of all knowledge; तान् (tān) - them; विद्धि (viddhi) - know; नष्टान् (naṣṭān) - ruined; अचेतसः (acetasaḥ) - without intelligence;]
"Those who out of envy do not follow my teachings are to be considered devoid of all knowledge, lost, and lacking in intelligence."

"लोकेऽस्मिन् द्विविधा निष्ठा पुरा प्रोक्ता मयाऽनघ"
"loke'smin dvividhā niṣṭhā purā proktā mayā'nagha"
[लोके (loke) - in the world; अस्मिन् (asmin) - in this; द्विविधा (dvividhā) - twofold; निष्ठा (niṣṭhā) - faith; पुरा (purā) - formerly; प्रोक्ता (proktā) - spoken; मया (mayā) - by me; अनघ (anagha) - O sinless one;]
"In this world, O sinless one, I have previously spoken of a twofold path of faith."
इत्युक्तत्वाच्च नाऽश्रमान्तरविरोधः।
ityuktatvācca nā'śramāntaravirodhaḥ।
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्तत्वात् (uktatvāt) - because of being said; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; आश्रमान्तर (āśramāntara) - another ashram; विरोधः (virodhaḥ) - contradiction;]
The above statement does not contradict or oppose one 'ashrama', i.e. the recommended phase/role of life with the other.
त्रेतायां बहुधा सन्ततानि। कृते त्वेकप्रकारेणैव सन्ततानि।
tretāyāṃ bahudhā santatāni। kṛte tvekaprakāreṇaiva santatāni।
[त्रेतायाम् (tretāyām) - in the Tretā Yuga; बहुधा (bahudhā) - in many forms; सन्ततानि (santatāni) - were manifested; कृते (kṛte) - in the Kṛta Yuga; तु (tu) - but; एकप्रकारेण (ekaprakāreṇa) - in one form; एव (eva) - only; सन्ततानि (santatāni) - were manifested;]
In the Tretā Yuga, manifestations occurred in various forms, whereas in the Kṛta Yuga, they appeared in a singular form.
"अग्निष्टोमादिभिर्यज्ञैः सर्वदेवस्थितं हरिम्। यजन्ति तांश्च कारित्वाद्वसुस्तस्मात् तथाऽयजत्॥ पृथक् पृथक् च त्रेतायां यजन्ते देवतागणान्। यथा कृते तथा प्राज्ञास्त्रेतायां बहुधा ततः॥"
"agniṣṭomādibhiryajñaiḥ sarvadevasthitaṃ harim। yajanti tāṃśca kāritvādvasustasmāt tathā'yajat॥ pṛthak pṛthak ca tretāyāṃ yajante devatāgaṇān। yathā kṛte tathā prājñāstretāyāṃ bahudhā tataḥ॥"
[अग्निष्टोमादिभिः (agniṣṭomādibhiḥ) - by Agniṣṭoma and other; यज्ञैः (yajñaiḥ) - sacrifices; सर्वदेवस्थितं (sarvadevasthitaṃ) - abiding in all gods; हरिम् (harim) - Hari; यजन्ति (yajanti) - they worship; तान् (tān) - them; च (ca) - and; कारित्वात् (kāritvāt) - due to the act; वसुः (vasuḥ) - Vasu; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; तथा (tathā) - thus; अयजत् (ayajat) - he worshipped; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; च (ca) - and; त्रेतायाम् (tretāyām) - in the Tretā age; यजन्ते (yajante) - they worship; देवतागणान् (devatāgaṇān) - groups of deities; यथा (yathā) - as; कृते (kṛte) - in the Kṛta age; तथा (tathā) - so; प्राज्ञाः (prājñāḥ) - the wise; त्रेतायाम् (tretāyām) - in the Tretā age; बहुधा (bahudhā) - in many ways; ततः (tataḥ) - then;]
"In the Kṛta age through sacrifices like Agniṣṭoma, they worship Lord Hari, who resides in all gods. King Vasu, through his actions, worshipped in this manner. In the Tretā age they worship the groups of deities separately, in many ways. But the wise continue to worship the one Lord just as in the Kṛta age."

"यमिन्द्रमाहुर्वरुणं यमाहुः र्यं मित्रमाहुर्यमु सत्यमाहुः। यो देवानां देवतमो जनित्रं वायोस्तस्मै सोममेभ्यो जुहोमि॥"
"yamindramāhurvaruṇaṃ yamāhuḥ ryaṃ mitramāhuryamu satyamāhuḥ। yo devānāṃ devatamo janitraṃ vāyostasmai somamebhyo juhomi॥"
[यम् (yam) - whom; इन्द्रम् (indram) - Indra; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they call; वरुणम् (varuṇam) - Varuna; यम् (yam) - whom; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they call; र्यम् (ryam) - Mitra; मित्रम् (mitram) - Mitra; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they call; यम् (yam) - whom; सत्यम् (satyam) - Truth; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they call; यः (yaḥ) - who; देवानाम् (devānām) - of the gods; देवतमः (devatamaḥ) - the greatest god; जनित्रम् (janitram) - creator; वायोः (vāyoḥ) - of the wind; तस्मै (tasmai) - to him; सोममेभ्यः (somamebhyaḥ) - Soma offerings; जुहोमि (juhomi) - I offer;]
"Whom they call Indra, whom they call Varuna, whom they call Mitra, whom they call Truth; who is the greatest god of the gods, the creator of the wind, to him I offer Soma offerings."
एवं वायोः पितरं विष्णुमेव यजन्ति देवैः सह ये कृते जनाः। एवं त्रेतायां केचिदन्ये पृथक्तानिष्ट्वाविष्णावर्पयन्ते न चान्यैः॥
evaṃ vāyoḥ pitaraṃ viṣṇumeva yajanti devaiḥ saha ye kṛte janāḥ। evaṃ tretāyāṃ kecidanye pṛthaktāniṣṭvāviṣṇāvarpayante na cānyaiḥ॥
[एवं (evaṃ) - thus; वायोः (vāyoḥ) - of Vāyu; पितरं (pitaraṃ) - father; विष्णुमेव (viṣṇumeva) - Viṣṇu only; यजन्ति (yajanti) - worship; देवैः (devaiḥ) - with gods; सह (saha) - together; ये (ye) - who; कृते (kṛte) - in Krta Yuga; जनाः (janāḥ) - people; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; त्रेतायां (tretāyāṃ) - in Treta Yuga; केचित् (kecit) - some; अन्ये (anye) - others; पृथक्तानिष्ट्वा (pṛthaktāniṣṭvā) - separately worshipping; अविष्णौ (aviṣṇau) - not in Viṣṇu; अर्पयन्ते (arpayante) - offer; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अन्यैः (anyaiḥ) - to others;]
In the Krta Yuga, people worship only Viṣṇu, the father of Vāyu, together with the gods. In the Treta Yuga, some others, worshipping separately, and thus do not offer to Viṣṇu.

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
