Mundaka 2.07

प्लवा ह्येते अदृढा यज्ञरूपा अष्टादशोक्तमवरं येषु कर्म। एतच्छ्रेयो येऽभिनन्दन्ति मूढाः जरामृत्युं ते पुनरेवापियन्ति ॥७॥

plavā hyete adṛḍhā yajñarūpā aṣṭādaśoktamavaraṃ yeṣu karma। etacchreyo ye'bhinandanti mūḍhāḥ jarāmṛtyuṃ te punarevāpiyanti ॥7॥

[प्लवाः (plavāḥ) - rafts; हि (hi) - indeed; एते (ete) - these; अदृढाः (adṛḍhāḥ) - unsteady; यज्ञरूपाः (yajñarūpāḥ) - sacrificial forms; अष्टादश (aṣṭādaśa) - eighteen; उक्तम् (uktam) - spoken; अवरम् (avaram) - inferior; येषु (yeṣu) - in which; कर्म (karma) - actions; एतत् (etat) - this; श्रेयः (śreyaḥ) - better; ये (ye) - who; अभिनन्दन्ति (abhinandanti) - praise; मूढाः (mūḍhāḥ) - fools; जरामृत्युम् (jarāmṛtyum) - old age and death; ते (te) - they; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - certainly; अपियन्ति (apiyanti) - reach;]

These sacrificial forms, though spoken of as eighteen in number, are unsteady rafts. Those who consider them superior and praise them are fools; they will certainly face old age and death again.
