Kāthakopaniṣat Bhāshya (काठकोपनिषत् )
2.1.14
यथोदकं दुर्गे वृष्टं पर्वतेषु विधावति। एवं धर्मान् पृथक् पश्यन् तानेवानु विधावति ॥१४॥
yathodakaṃ durge vṛṣṭaṃ parvateṣu vidhāvati। evaṃ dharmān pṛthak paśyan tānevānu vidhāvati ॥14॥
[यथा (yathā) - just as; उदकम् (udakam) - water; दुर्गे (durge) - in difficult terrain; वृष्टम् (vṛṣṭam) - rained; पर्वतेषु (parvateṣu) - on mountains; विधावति (vidhāvati) - flows; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; धर्मान् (dharmān) - duties; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately / distinctly; पश्यन् (paśyan) - seeing; तान् (tān) - them; एव (eva) - only; अनु (anu) - after; विधावति (vidhāvati) - runs apart or moves swiftly in various directions;]
Water flows down the mountains when it rains, even in difficult terrain; in the same way, a person who perceives 'dharmas' distinctly as varied, runs apart in various directions.
Bhāṣya 2.1.14
Just as rain flows downwards from the mountains, peaks, and forts; similarly, those who perceive the qualities of Vishnu separately run downwards, towards darkness. It is a fault to see separately the divine "dharmas" from qualities, parts, attributes, and actions.
bhedābheda eva niṣidhyate, natu bhedaḥ ityāśaṅkāṃ nivarayituṃ evaṃ dharmān pṛthak paśyan iti bhagavaddharmāṇāṃ avayavaguṇakarmaṇāṃ bhedadarśane pṛthak doṣamāha. parvateṣu durge śikhare vṛṣṭamadho vidhāvati. evaṃ viṣṇośca dharmān pṛthak paśyan andhantamo vidhāvati ॥12-14॥
[भेदाभेद (bhedābheda) - difference-non-difference; एव (eva) - indeed; निषिध्यते (niṣidhyate) - is negated; नतु (natu) - but not; भेदः (bhedaḥ) - difference; इत्याशङ्काम् (ityāśaṅkām) - this doubt; निवरयितुम् (nivarayitum) - to remove; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; धर्मान् (dharmān) - qualities; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; पश्यन् (paśyan) - seeing; इति (iti) - thus; भगवद्धर्माणाम् (bhagavaddharmāṇām) - of divine dharma; अवयवगुणकर्मणाम् (avayavaguṇakarmaṇām) - of parts, attributes, and actions; भेददर्शने (bhedadarśane) - in the perception of difference; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; दोषम् (doṣam) - fault; आह (āha) - says; पर्वतेषु (parvateṣu) - in the mountains; दुर्गे (durge) - in the fort; शिखरे (śikhare) - on the peak; वृष्टम् (vṛṣṭam) - rain; अधः (adhaḥ) - downwards; विधावति (vidhāvati) - flows; एवं (evaṃ) - thus; विष्णोः (viṣṇoḥ) - of Vishnu; च (ca) - and; धर्मान् (dharmān) - qualities; पृथक् (pṛthak) - separately; पश्यन् (paśyan) - seeing; अन्धन्तमः (andhantamaḥ) - darkness; विधावति (vidhāvati) - runs.;]
The concept of seeing a difference in non-difference is negated, but not the concept of difference itself. To dispel this doubt, it is explained "dharmān pṛthak paśyan", i.e. who sees 'dharmas' distinctly - implying it is a fault to see separately the divine "dharmas" from qualities, parts, attributes, and actions. Just as rain flows downwards from the mountains, peaks, and forts; similarly, those who perceive the qualities of Vishnu separately run downwards, towards darkness.
