Kāthakopaniṣat Bhāshya (काठकोपनिषत् )
2.1.13
अङगुष्ठमात्रः पुरुषो ज्योतिरिवाधूमकः। ईशानो भूतभव्यस्य स एवाद्य स उ श्वः। एतद्वै तत् ॥१३॥
aṅguṣṭhamātraḥ puruṣo jyotirivādhūmakaḥ। īśāno bhūtabhavyasya sa evādya sa u śvaḥ। etadvai tat ॥13॥
[अङगुष्ठमात्रः (aṅguṣṭhamātraḥ) - of the size of a thumb; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - the person; ज्योतिः (jyotiḥ) - light; इव (iva) - like; अधूमकः (adhūmakaḥ) - without smoke; ईशानः (īśānaḥ) - the lord; भूतभव्यस्य (bhūtabhavyasya) - of the past and future; सः (saḥ) - he; एव (eva) - indeed; अद्य (adya) - today; सः (saḥ) - he; उ (u) - and; श्वः (śvaḥ) - tomorrow; एतत् (etat) - this; वै (vai) - indeed; तत् (tat) - that;]
(The person is of the size of a thumb, like a light without smoke. He is the lord of the past and future; he is indeed today and tomorrow. This is indeed that.)
The Puruṣa, the supreme being, small as a thumb, is like a smokeless light. He is the ruler of what has been and what will be; he is the same today and tomorrow. This indeed is the ultimate truth.
