Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 8.24
अग्निर्ज्योतिरहः शुक्लः षण्मासा उत्तरायणम्। तत्र प्रयाता गच्छन्ति ब्रह्म ब्रह्मविदो जनाः ॥२४॥
agnirjyotirahaḥ śuklaḥ ṣaṇmāsā uttarāyaṇam। tatra prayātā gacchanti brahma brahmavido janāḥ ॥24॥
[अग्निः (agniḥ) - Fire; ज्योतिः (jyotiḥ) - Light; अहः (ahaḥ) - Day; शुक्लः (śuklaḥ) - The bright (fortnight); षण्मासाः (ṣaṇmāsāḥ) - Six months; उत्तरायणम् (uttarāyaṇam) - The northern solstice; तत्र (tatra) - these presiding deities; प्रयाताः (prayātāḥ) - Those who have departed; गच्छन्ति (gacchanti) - Go; ब्रह्म (brahma) - To Brahman; ब्रह्मविदः (brahmavidaḥ) - The knowers of Brahman; जनाः (janāḥ) - People;]
Those knowers of Brahman who depart honoured by the presiding deities of the Fire, the Radiance, the Day, the Bright fortnight, and the Six months of the northern solstice — go to Brahman.
Gīta Bhāshya 8.24
'jyotiḥ' - radiance. Mentioned names indicate the presiding deities and not the time period.
ज्योतिः अर्चिः।
jyotiḥ arciḥ।
[ज्योतिः (jyotiḥ) - Light; अर्चिः (arciḥ) - means radiance;]
'Jyoti' means radiance.
"ते अर्चिषं अभिसम्भवन्ति।"
"te arciṣaṁ abhisambhavanti।"
[ते (te) - They; अर्चिषं (arciṣam) - Into the radiance; अभिसम्भवन्ति (abhisambhavanti) - Enter (merge into);]
"They enter into the radiance."
इति हि श्रुतिः।
iti hi śrutiḥ।
[इति (iti) - Thus; हि (hi) - Indeed; श्रुतिः (śrutiḥ) - The scripture (Vedic text)]
- Thus indeed, states the Vedic testimonial.
तथा च नारदीये-
tathā ca nāradīye -
[तथा (tathā) - Likewise; च (ca) - And; नारदीये (nāradīye) - In the Nārada (Purāṇa or text);]
Likewise, in the Nārada Purāṇa:
"अग्निं प्राप्य ततश्चाचिः ततश्चाप्यहरादिकम्।"
"agniṁ prāpya tataścāciḥ tataścāpyaharādikam।"
[अग्निं (agniṁ) - Fire; प्राप्य (prāpya) - Having attained; ततः (tataḥ) - Thereafter; च (ca) - And; अर्चिः (arciḥ) - Radiance (flame); ततः (tataḥ) - Then; च (ca) - And; अपि (api) - Also; अहः-आदिकम् (ahaḥ-ādikam) - The day and so on;]
"Having attained fire, then radiance, and thereafter the day and beyond."

[इति (iti) - Thus;]
- stated thus.
अभिमानिदेवताश्च अग्न्यादयः। कथं अन्यथा 'अह्नः आपूर्यमाणपक्षम्' इति युज्येत।
abhimānidevatāśca agnyādayaḥ। kathaṁ anyathā 'ahnaḥ āpūryamāṇapakṣam' iti yujyeta।
[अभिमानि-देवताः (abhimāni-devatāḥ) - Presiding deities; च (ca) - And; अग्न्यादयः (agny-ādayaḥ) - Fire and others; कथं (kathaṁ) - How; अन्यथा (anyathā) - Otherwise; 'अह्नः (ahnaḥ) - Of the day; आपूर्यमाण-पक्षम्' (āpūryamāṇa-pakṣam) - The waxing fortnight; इति (iti) - Thus; युज्येत (yujyeta) - Would it be appropriate;]
In the statement 'fire and others' indicate the presiding deities. Otherwise, how would the statement 'the waxing fortnight of the day' be appropriate?
"दिवादिदेवताभिस्तु पूजितो ब्रह्म याति हि।"
"divādidevatābhistu pūjito brahma yāti hi।"
[दिवा-आदि-देवताभिः (divā-ādi-devatābhiḥ) - By the deities presiding over the day and others; तु (tu) - Indeed; पूजितः (pūjitaḥ) - Honored (or worshipped); ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; याति (yāti) - Attains; हि (hi) - Certainly;]
"Honored by the deities presiding over the day and others, one certainly attains Brahman."
इति ब्राह्मे।
iti brāhme।
[इति (iti) - Thus; ब्राह्मे (brāhme) - In the Brāhma Purana;]
- stated thus in the Brāhma Purana.
मासाभिमानिन्यः अयनाभिमानिनी च पृथक्। तच्चोक्तं गारुडे-
māsābhimāninyaḥ ayanābhimāninī ca pr̥thak। taccoktaṁ gāruḍe -
[मास-अभिमानिन्यः (māsa-abhimāninyaḥ) - The deities presiding over the months; अयन-अभिमानिनी (ayana-abhimāninī) - The deity presiding over the solstices; च (ca) - And; पृथक् (pṛthak) - Separately (distinctly); तत् (tat) - That; च (ca) - And; उक्तं (uktaṁ) - Is stated; गारुडे (gāruḍe) - In the Garuḍa (Purāṇa);]
The deities presiding over the months and the deity presiding over the solstices are distinct. This is also stated in the Garuḍa Purāṇa:
"पूजितस्त्व यनेनासौ मासैः परिवृतेन हि।"
"pūjitastva yanenāsau māsaiḥ parivr̥tena hi।"
[पूजितः (pūjitaḥ) - Honored (or worshipped); त्व (tu) - Indeed; अयनेन (ayanena) - By the solstice; असौ (asau) - That one; मासैः (māsaiḥ) - By the months; परिवृतेन (parivṛtena) - Surrounded (or enveloped); हि (hi) - Certainly;]
"Indeed, honored by the solstice deities and certainly surrounded by the months deities."

- stated thus.
अहः अभिजिता शुक्लं पौर्णमास्या अयनं विषुना सह। तच्चोक्तं ब्रह्मवैवर्ते-
ahaḥ abhijitā śuklaṁ paurṇamāsyā ayanaṁ viṣunā saha। taccoktaṁ brahmavaivarte
[अहः (ahaḥ) - Day; अभिजिता (abhijitā) - Abhijit (the auspicious time); शुक्लं (śuklam) - The bright fortnight; पौर्णमास्या (paurṇamāsyā) - With the full moon; अयनं (ayanam) - The solstice; विषुना (viṣunā) - With Viṣuva (equinox); सह (saha) - Together (along with); तत् (tat) - That; च (ca) - And; उक्तं (uktaṁ) - Is stated; ब्रह्मवैवर्ते (brahmavaivarte) - In the Brahmavaivarta (Purāṇa);]
The day, Abhijit, the bright fortnight, the full moon, the solstice, and the equinox—all together. This is also stated in the Brahmavaivarta Purāṇa:
"साह्ना मध्यन्दिनेनाथ शुक्लेन च सपूर्णिमा। सविष्वा चायनेनासौ पूजितः केशवं व्रजेत्॥"
"sāhnā madhyandinenātha śuklena ca sapūrṇimā। saviṣvā cāyanenāsau pūjitaḥ keśavaṁ vrajet॥"
[सा (sā) - That (combination); अह्ना (ahnā) - With the day; मध्यन्दिनेन् (madhyandinen) - With midday; अथ (atha) - Then; शुक्लेन (śuklena) - With the bright fortnight; च (ca) - And; सपूर्णिमा (sa-paurṇimā) - With the full moon; सविष्वा (saviṣvā) - With Viṣuva (equinox); च (ca) - And; अयनेन (ayanena) - With the solstice; असौ (asau) - That one; पूजितः (pūjitaḥ) - Honored (or worshipped); केशवं (keśavam) - To Keśava (Lord Viṣṇu); व्रजेत् (vrajet) - Goes;]
"That one, honored with the day, midday, the bright fortnight, the full moon, the equinox, and the solstice, attains Keśava (Lord Viṣṇu)."

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
