Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 8.11
यदक्षरं वेदविदो वदन्ति विशन्ति यद् यतयो वीतरागाः। यदिच्छन्तो ब्रह्मचर्यं चरन्ति तत्ते पदं सङ्ग्रहेण प्रवक्ष्ये ॥११॥
yadakṣaraṁ vedavido vadanti viśanti yad yatayo vītarāgāḥ। yadicchanto brahmacaryaṁ caranti tatte padaṁ saṅgraheṇa pravakṣye ॥11॥
[यत् (yat) - that which; अक्षरम् (akṣaram) - the imperishable; वेदविदः (vedavidaḥ) - knowers of the Vedas; वदन्ति (vadanti) - declare; विशन्ति (viśanti) - enter; यत् (yat) - which; यतयः (yatayaḥ) - ascetics; वीतरागाः (vītarāgāḥ) - who are free from attachment; यत् (yat) - which; इच्छन्तः (icchantaḥ) - desiring; ब्रह्मचर्यम् (brahmacaryam) - the discipline of celibacy and self-restraint; चरन्ति (caranti) - practice; तत् (tat) - that; ते (te) - to you; पदम् (padam) - the supreme state; सङ्ग्रहेण (saṅgraheṇa) - briefly, in summary; प्रवक्ष्ये (pravakṣye) - I shall declare;]
That imperishable (reality) which the knowers of the Vedas declare, which the ascetics free from attachment enter, and which, desiring, they practice the discipline of 'brahmacharya' — I shall briefly declare to you the path to that supreme state.
Gīta Bhāshya 8.11
That imperishable alone is the reality to be meditated up on. The supreme abode, 'pada', to be attained is Lord Vishnu.
तदेव सद्ध्येयं प्रपञ्चयति - यदक्षरम् इत्यादिना। प्राप्यते मुमुक्षुभिः इति पदं स्वरूपम्। 'पद गतौ' - इति धातोः।
tadeva saddhyeyaṁ prapañcayati - yadakṣaram ityādinā। prāpyate mumukṣubhiḥ iti padaṁ svarūpam। 'pada gatau' - iti dhātoḥ।
[तत् (tat) - that; एव (eva) - indeed; सत् (sat) - the truth, the real; ध्येयम् (dhyeyam) - to be meditated upon; प्रपञ्चयति (prapañcayati) - explains in detail; यदक्षरम् (yad akṣaram) - that which is imperishable; इत्यादिना (ityādinā) - beginning with "Yadakṣaram" (i.e., through the previous verse); प्राप्यते (prāpyate) - is attained; मुमुक्षुभिः (mumuṣubhiḥ) - by those desiring liberation; इति (iti) - thus; पदम् (padam) - the supreme state; स्वरूपम् (svarūpam) - its true nature; 'पद गतौ' (pada gatau) - "Pada" comes from the root meaning movement or attainment; इति (iti) - thus; धातोः (dhātoḥ) - of the root (verb);]
That alone is the truth to be meditated upon, which is elaborated beginning with the verse 'Yadakṣaram', i.e. 'that imperishable one'. It is the supreme state attained by seekers of liberation as well is indicated by the expression 'Pada'. The root of the word 'pada' means 'gatau', i.e. ''to go, to attain'.
"तद्विष्णोः परमं पदम्"
"tadviṣṇoḥ paramaṁ padam"
[तत् (tat) - that; विष्णोः (viṣṇoḥ) - Lord Vishnu; परमम् (paramam) - supreme; पदम् (padam) - state, abode;]
"That lord Vishnu is the supreme abode."
इति श्रुतेश्च।
iti śruteśca।
[इति - इति (iti) - thus; श्रुतेः - श्रुति (śruti) - revealed scripture, Vedic text; ः (-ḥ) - of; च - च (ca) - and;]
- thus states the Vedic testimonial as well.
"गीयसे पदमित्येव मुनिभिः पद्यसे यतः॥"
"gīyase padamityeva munibhiḥ padyase yataḥ॥"
[गीयसे (gīyase) - you are sung (praised); पदम् (padam) - as the supreme state; इति (iti) - thus; एव (eva) - indeed; मुनिभिः (munibhiḥ) - by the sages; पद्यसे (padyase) - you are attained; यतः (yataḥ) - because;]
"You are sung as 'pada', i.e. the supreme state by the sages, because you are attained (as the ultimate goal)."
इति वचनात् नारदीये ॥११॥
iti vacanāt nāradīye ॥11॥
[इति (iti) - thus; वचनात् (vacanāt) - from the statement; नारदीये (nāradīye) - in the Naradiya scripture;]

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
