B.G 8.10
प्रयाणकाले मनसाचलेन भक्त्या युक्तो योगबलेन चैव। भ्रुवोर्मध्ये प्राणमावेश्य सम्यक् स तं परं पुरुषमुपैति दिव्यम् ॥१०॥
prayāṇakāle manasācalena bhaktyā yukto yogabalena caiva। bhruvormadhye prāṇamāveśya samyak sa taṁ paraṁ puruṣamupaiti divyam ॥10॥
[प्रयाणकाले (prayāṇa-kāle) - at the time of departure; मनसा (manasā) - with the mind; अचलेन (acalena) - unwavering; भक्त्या (bhaktyā) - with devotion; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - engaged, absorbed; योगबलेन (yoga-balena) - by the strength of yoga; च (ca) - and; एव (eva) - indeed; भ्रुवोः मध्ये (bhruvoḥ madhye) - in the middle of the eyebrows; प्राणम् आवेश्य (prāṇam āveśya) - having fixed the vital air; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly, completely; सः (saḥ) - he; तम् (tam) - that; परम् (param) - supreme; पुरुषम् (puruṣam) - being, person; उपैति (upaiti) - attains, reaches; दिव्यम् (divyam) - divine;]
At the time of departure, having an unwavering mind absorbed in devotion and properly fixing the vital air between the eyebrows with the help of Yoga, one attains that supreme divine being.
Gīta Bhāshya 8.10
Prescribes the steps to be followed by those engaged in Yoga and who have mastered the breath. Those who are complete in knowledge, devotion, and detachment, even without the practice of Yoga attain liberation. Practicing of Yoga speeds up the process.
वायुजयादियोगयुक्तानां मृतिकाले कर्तव्यमाह विशेषतः - प्रयाणकाल इति॥
vāyujayādiyogayuktānāṁ mr̥tikāle kartavyamāha viśeṣataḥ - prayāṇakāla iti॥
[वायुजयात् (vāyujayāt) - from mastery over breath; योगयुक्तानाम् (yogayuktānām) - of those engaged in yoga; मृत्युकाले (mṛtyukāle) - at the time of death; कर्तव्यम् (kartavyam) - what should be done; आह (āha) - (the scripture) says; विशेषतः (viśeṣataḥ) - specifically; प्रयाणकाले (prayāṇakāle) - at the time of departure; इति (iti) - thus;]
The verse 'prayāṇakāle', i.e. at the time of departure, specifically describes what should be done at the time of death by those engaged in yoga and who have mastered the breath.
वायुजयादिरहितानाम् अपि ज्ञानभक्तिवैराग्यसम्पूर्णानां भवत्येव मुक्तिः। तद्वतां तु ईषत् ज्ञानाद्यसम्पूर्णानाम् अपि निपुणानां तद्बलात् कथञ्चित् भवतीति विशेषः। उक्तं च भागवते -
vāyujayādirahitānām api jñānabhaktivairāgyasampūrṇānāṁ bhavatyeva muktiḥ। tadvatāṁ tu īṣat jñānādyasampūrṇānām api nipuṇānāṁ tadbalāt kathañcit bhavatīti viśeṣaḥ। uktaṁ ca bhāgavate -
[वायुजयादिरहितानाम् (vāyujayādi-rahitānām) - of those devoid of breath control and similar practices; अपि (api) - even; ज्ञानभक्तिवैराग्यसम्पूर्णानाम् (jñāna-bhakti-vairāgya-sampūrṇānām) - of those who are full of knowledge, devotion, and detachment; भवति (bhavati) - happens; एव (eva) - indeed; मुक्तिः (muktiḥ) - liberation; तद्वताम् (tadvatām) - for those possessing that; तु (tu) - but; ईषत् (īṣat) - slightly; ज्ञानादि-असम्पूर्णानाम् (jñānādi-asampūrṇānām) - of those who are incomplete in knowledge and similar qualities; अपि (api) - even; निपुणानाम् (nipuṇānām) - of those who are skillful; तद्बलात् (tadbalāt) - by the strength of that (knowledge, devotion, etc.); कथञ्चित् (kathaṁcit) - somehow; भवति (bhavati) - happens; इति (iti) - thus; विशेषः (viśeṣaḥ) - distinction; उक्तं (uktaṁ) - it is said; च (ca) - and; भागवते (bhāgavata) - in the Bhāgavata (Purāṇa);]
Even those devoid of breath control and similar practices, if they are complete in knowledge, devotion, and detachment, certainly attain liberation. However, for those who are skilful (in Yoga) even if they possess a slight deficiency in knowledge and other qualities, they may still attain liberation by the strength of their skill. This is the distinction. It is stated in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa:
"पानेन ते देवकथासुधायाः प्रवृद्धभक्त्या विशदाशया ये। वैराग्यसारं प्रतिलभ्य बोधं यथाऽञ्जसा त्वाऽपुरकुण्ठधिष्ण्यम्॥ तथापरे त्वात्मसमाधियोगबलेन जित्वा प्रकृतिं बलिष्ठाम्। त्वामेव धीराः पुरुषं विशन्ति तेषां श्रमः स्यान्न तु सेवया ते॥"
"pānena te devakathāsudhāyāḥ pravr̥ddhabhaktyā viśadāśayā ye। vairāgyasāraṁ pratilabhya bodhaṁ yathā'ñjasā tvā'purakuṇṭhadhiṣṇyam॥ tathāpare tvātmasamādhiyogabalena jitvā prakr̥tiṁ baliṣṭhām। tvāmeva dhīrāḥ puruṣaṁ viśanti teṣāṁ śramaḥ syānna tu sevayā te॥"
[पानेन (pānena) - by drinking; ते (te) - your; देवकथासुधायाः (devakathāsudhāyāḥ) - the nectar of divine discourse; प्रवृद्धभक्त्या (pravṛddha-bhaktyā) - with intensified devotion; विशदाशया (viśadāśayā) - with pure-hearted disposition; ये (ye) - those who; वैराग्यसारम् (vairāgyasāram) - the essence of renunciation; प्रतिलभ्य (pratilabhya) - having attained; बोधम् (bodham) - realization, knowledge; यथा (yathā) - as; अञ्जसा (añjasā) - directly, easily; त्वा (tvā) - you; आपुः (āpuḥ) - have attained; अकुण्ठधिष्ण्यम् (akuṇṭha-dhiṣṇyam) - the unobstructed abode (of liberation); तथा (tathā) - similarly; अपरे (apare) - others; त्वत्-आत्म-समाधि-योग-बलेन (tvat-ātma-samādhi-yoga-balena) - by the strength of meditative absorption in you; जित्वा (jitvā) - having conquered; प्रकृतिम् (prakṛtim) - material nature; बलिष्ठाम् (baliṣṭhām) - which is very strong; त्वाम् (tvām) - you; एव (eva) - indeed; धीराः (dhīrāḥ) - the wise ones; पुरुषम् (puruṣam) - the Supreme Person; विशन्ति (viśanti) - enter; तेषाम् (teṣām) - for them; श्रमः (śramaḥ) - hardship; स्यात् (syāt) - may be; न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; सेवया (sevayā) - by service; ते (te) - of you;]
"Those who drinking the nectar of your divine discourse with intensified devotion and are pure-hearted in their disposition attain the essence of renunciation and realization, and easily reach your unobstructed abode. Similarly, others, by the strength of meditative absorption in you, having conquered the powerful material nature, enter into you, the Supreme Person. For them, there may be hardship, but not for those who engage in your service."

"ये तु तद्भाविता लोकाः एकान्तित्वं समाश्रिताः। एतदभ्यधिकं तेषां तत्तेजः प्रविशन्त्युत॥"
"ye tu tadbhāvitā lokāḥ ekāntitvaṁ samāśritāḥ। etadabhyadhikaṁ teṣāṁ tattejaḥ praviśantyuta॥"
[ये (ye) - those who; तु (tu) - but; तद्भाविताः (tad-bhāvitāḥ) - deeply absorbed in that (Supreme); लोकाः (lokāḥ) - of worlds; एकान्तित्वं (ekāntitvaṁ) - the state of exclusivity, absolute devotion; समाश्रिताः (samāśritāḥ) - having completely taken refuge in; एतदभ्यधिकं (etad-abhyadhikam) - surpassing even this (in greatness); तेषाम् (teṣām) - of them; तत्-तेजः (tat-tejaḥ) - that supreme brilliance; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - they enter; उत (uta) - indeed, certainly;]
"But those who are deeply absorbed, who have absolute exclusive devotion, and who have taken complete refuge in that (Supreme), such beings, surpassing even others, certainly enter into that supreme brilliance."
इति च मोक्षधर्मे।

[इति (iti) - thus; च (ca) - and; मोक्षधर्मे (mokṣadharme) - in the section of Mokṣa-dharma (scripture related to liberation);]

"सम्पूर्णानां भवेन्मोक्षो विरक्तिज्ञानभक्तिभिः। नियमेन तथापीरजयादियुतयोगिनाम्। वश्यत्वान्मनसस्त्वीषत् पूर्वमप्याप्यते ध्रुवम्॥"
"sampūrṇānāṁ bhavenmokṣo viraktijñānabhaktibhiḥ। niyamena tathāpīrajayādiyutayoginām। vaśyatvānmanasastvīṣat pūrvamapyāpyate dhruvam॥"
[सम्पूर्णानाम् (sampūrṇānām) - of those who are perfected; भवेत् (bhavet) - may be, occurs; मोक्षः (mokṣaḥ) - liberation; विरक्ति-ज्ञान-भक्तिभिः (virakti-jñāna-bhaktibhiḥ) - by detachment, knowledge, and devotion; नियमेन (niyamena) - by discipline; तथापि (tathāpi) - even so; ईरजयादि-युत-योगिनाम् (īraja-yuta-yoginām) - of yogis endowed with breath control and others; वश्यत्वात् (vaśyatvāt) - due to control; मनसः (manasaḥ) - of the mind; तु (tu) - but; ईषत् (īṣat) - slightly; पूर्वम् (pūrvam) - earlier; अपि (api) - also; आप्यते (āpyate) - is attained; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly;]
"Liberation is attained by those who have perfected detachment, knowledge, and devotion. But for Yogis endowed with breath control and others with the help of discipline, due to mastery over the mind, it is certainly attained slightly earlier."
