Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 9.09
न च मां तानि कर्माणि निबध्नन्ति धनञ्जय। उदासीनवदासीनमसक्तं तेषु कर्मसु ॥९॥
na ca māṁ tāni karmāṇi nibadhnanti dhanañjaya। udāsīnavadāsīnamasaktaṁ teṣu karmasu ॥9॥
[न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; माम् (mām) - me; तानि (tāni) - those; कर्माणि (karmāṇi) - actions; निबध्नन्ति (nibadhnanti) - bind; धनञ्जय (dhanañjaya) - O Dhanañjaya (Arjuna); उदासीनवत् (udāsīnavat) - like an indifferent one; आसीनम् (āsīnam) - remaining; असक्तम् (asaktam) - willfully not seeking; तेषु (teṣu) - in those; कर्मसु (karmasu) - actions;]
O Dhanañjaya, those actions do not bind me, as I remain 'like an indifferent one', not willfully seeking those actions.
Gīta Bhāshya 9.09
'Like an indifferent one' - is not the same as truly indifferent. He who governs actions - how can action bind Him?
उदासीनवत् न तु उदासीनः। तदर्थं आह - असक्तं इति।
udāsīnavat na tu udāsīnaḥ। tadarthaṁ āha - asaktaṁ iti।
[उदासीनवत् (udāsīnavat) - like an indifferent one; न (na) - not; तु (tu) - but; उदासीनः (udāsīnaḥ) - truly indifferent; तदर्थम् (tadartham) - for that reason; आह (āha) - it is said; असक्तम् (asaktam) - unattached; इति (iti) - thus;]
Like an indifferent one, but not truly indifferent. For that reason, it is said—‘unattached’.
"अवाक्यनादरः"
"avākyanādaraḥ"
[अवाक्य (avākya) - without speech; नादरः (nāadaraḥ) - disregard;]
"Silent and disregarding."
इति श्रुतिः।
iti śrutiḥ।
[इति (iti) - thus; श्रुतिः (śrutiḥ) - the revealed scripture (Vedic text);]
- stated thus in the Vedic testimonials.
"द्रव्यं कर्म च कालश्च स्वभावो जीव एव च। यदनुग्रहतः सन्ति न सन्ति यदुपेक्षया॥"
"dravyaṁ karma ca kālaśca svabhāvo jīva eva ca। yadanugrahataḥ santi na santi yadupekṣayā॥"
द्रव्यं (dravyaṁ) - substance; कर्म (karma) - action; च (ca) - and; कालः (kālaḥ) - time; च (ca) - and; स्वभावः (svabhāvaḥ) - inherent nature; जीवः (jīvaḥ) - the living being; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; यदनुग्रहतः (yadanugrahataḥ) - by whose grace; सन्ति (santi) - they exist; न (na) - not; सन्ति (santi) - they exist; यदुपेक्षया (yadupekṣayā) - by whose neglect;]
"Substance, action (movement), time, inherent nature, and the living being indeed exist by His grace and cease to exist if He neglects."
इति भागवते।
iti bhāgavate।
[इति (iti) - thus; भागवते (bhāgavate) - in the Bhāgavata (Purāṇa);]
- stated thus in the Bhāgavata Purāṇa.
यस्य अशक्यैव सर्वकर्मशक्तिः कुतः तस्य सर्वकर्मबन्धः इति भावः।
yasya aśakyaiva sarvakarmaśaktiḥ kutaḥ tasya sarvakarmabandhaḥ iti bhāvaḥ।
[यस्य (yasya) - of whom; अशक्यैव (aśakyaiva) - even without seeking; सर्वकर्मशक्तिः (sarvakarmaśaktiḥ) - power over all actions; कुतः (kutaḥ) - how; तस्य (tasya) - for him; सर्वकर्मबन्धः (sarvakarmabandhaḥ) - bondage of all actions; इति (iti) - thus; भावः (bhāvaḥ) - the meaning (sense);]
Even without willfully seeking He has power over all actions; how can any actions bind Him? - Such is the sense.
"न कर्मणा वर्धते नो कनीयान्"
"na karmaṇā vardhate no kanīyān"
[न (na) - not; कर्मणा (karmaṇā) - by action; वर्धते (vardhate) - grows; नो (no) - nor; कनीयान् (kanīyān) - becomes lesser;]
"He neither grows by action nor becomes lesser."
इति हि श्रुतिः।
iti hi śrutiḥ।
[इति (iti) - thus; हि (hi) - indeed; श्रुतिः (śrutiḥ) - the revealed scripture (Vedic text).]
- indeed, thus states Vedic testimonial.
यः कर्मापि नियामयति कथं तं कर्म बध्नाति ॥९॥
yaḥ karmāpi niyāmayati kathaṁ taṁ karma badhnāti ॥9॥
[यः (yaḥ) - he who; कर्म (karma) - action; अपि (api) - even; नियामयति (niyāmayati) - governs; कथं (kathaṁ) - how; तम् (tam) - him; कर्म (karma) - action; बध्नाति (badhnāti) - binds;]
He who governs actions - how can action bind Him?

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
