Shat.Upa 01.08
अथोत्तरेण तपसा ब्रह्मचर्येण श्रद्धया विद्यया आत्मानं अन्विष्याऽदित्यमभिजयन्ते। एतद्वै प्राणानामायतनमेतदमृतमभयमेतत् परायणम् एतस्मान्न पुनरावर्तन्त इत्येष निरोधः॥
athottareṇa tapasā brahmacaryeṇa śraddhayā vidyayā ātmānaṃ anviṣyādityamabhijayante। etadvai prāṇānāmāyatanametadamṛtamabhayametat parāyaṇam etasmānna punarāvartanta ityeṣa nirodhaḥ॥
[अथ (atha) - then; उत्तरेण (uttareṇa) - by the northern; तपसा (tapasā) - by penance; ब्रह्मचर्येण (brahmacaryeṇa) - by celibacy; श्रद्धया (śraddhayā) - by faith; विद्यया (vidyayā) - by knowledge; आत्मानं (ātmānam) - the ātmān; अन्विष्य (anviṣya) - having sought; आदित्यम् (ādityam) - the sun; अभिजयन्ते (abhijayante) - they conquer; एतद्वै (etadvai) - this indeed; प्राणानाम् (prāṇānām) - of the vital forces; आयतनम् (āyatanam) - the abode; एतत् (etat) - this; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - immortal; अभयम् (abhayam) - fearless; एतत् (etat) - this; परायणम् (parāyaṇam) - the ultimate goal; एतस्मात् (etasmāt) - from this; न (na) - not; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; आवर्तन्ते (āvartante) - they return; इति (iti) - thus; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; निरोधः (nirodhaḥ) - cessation;]
Then, through the northern path, with penance, celibacy, faith, and knowledge, they seek the Ātmān and conquer the sun. This is indeed the abode of the vital forces, immortal and fearless, the ultimate goal. From this state, they do not return again; thus is the cessation.

पञ्चपादं पितरं द्वादशाकृतिं दिव आहुः परे अर्धे पुरीषिणम्। अथेमे अन्य उ परे विचक्षणं सप्तचक्रे षर आहुरर्पितमिति ॥८॥
pañcapādaṃ pitaraṃ dvādaśākṛtiṃ diva āhuḥ pare ardhe purīṣiṇam। atheme anya u pare vicakṣaṇaṃ saptacakre ṣara āhurarpitamiti ॥8॥
[पञ्चपादं (pañcapādam) - five-footed; पितरं (pitaraṃ) - father; द्वादशाकृतिं (dvādaśākṛtiṃ) - twelve-formed; दिव (diva) - in the sky; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they say; परे (pare) - in the other; अर्धे (ardhe) - half; पुरीषिणम् (purīṣiṇam) - excrement; अथ (atha) - then; इमे (ime) - these; अन्य (anya) - other; उ (u) - indeed; परे (pare) - in the other; विचक्षणं (vicakṣaṇam) - wise; सप्तचक्रे (saptacakre) - in the seven wheels; षरः (ṣaraḥ) - arrow; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they say; अर्पितम् (arpitam) - placed; इति (iti) - thus;]
(They say the father is five-footed and twelve-formed in the sky, in the other half excrement. Then these others indeed say the wise one is placed like an arrow in the seven wheels thus.)
The father, described as having five feet and twelve forms, is said to reside in the sky, while in the other half, he is associated with excrement. Then, it is said that the wise one is placed like an arrow within the seven wheels.
Bhāṣya 01.08
The divine being resides in the year, making the speech to reside in the sound.
संवत्सरस्थो भगवान् वागीरावयनस्थितौ।
saṁvatsarastho bhagavān vāgīrāvayanasthitau।
[संवत्सरस्थः (saṁvatsarasthaḥ) - residing in the year; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the divine; वागी (vāgī) - speech; रावयन् (rāvayan) - making sound; स्थितौ (sthitau) - in the position;]
