Kāthakopaniṣat Bhāshya (काठकोपनिषत् )
2.2.13
नित्यो नित्यानां चेतनश्चेतनानां एको बहूनां यो विदधाति कामान्। तमात्मस्थं येऽनु पश्यन्ति धीरास्तेषां शान्तिः शाश्वती नेतरेषाम् ॥१३॥
nityo nityānāṃ cetanaścetanānāṃ eko bahūnāṃ yo vidadhāti kāmān। tamātmasthaṃ ye'nu paśyanti dhīrāsteṣāṃ śāntiḥ śāśvatī netareṣām ॥13॥
[नित्यः (nityaḥ) - eternal; नित्यानाम् (nityānām) - of the eternals; चेतनः (cetanaḥ) - conscious; चेतनानाम् (cetanānām) - of the conscious beings; एकः (ekaḥ) - one; बहूनाम् (bahūnām) - of the many; यः (yaḥ) - who; विदधाति (vidadhāti) - fulfils; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; तम् (tam) - him; आत्मस्थम् (ātmastham) - situated within the self; ये (ye) - who; अनु (anu) - after; पश्यन्ति (paśyanti) - see; धीराः (dhīrāḥ) - wise; तेषाम् (teṣām) - their; शान्तिः (śāntiḥ) - peace; शाश्वती (śāśvatī) - eternal; न (na) - not; इतर (itara) - others; इषाम् (iṣām) - of;]
He is the eternal among the eternals, the conscious among the conscious beings, and the one who fulfils the desires of the many. The wise who perceive him within their own selves attain eternal peace, not others.
Bhāṣya 2.2.13
The individual being is merely a reflection of the supreme consciousness, truly independent Lord Hari. One must meditate on the Lord situated within, but meditating on him as non-distinct from individual beings results in ignorance.
"चेतनाभासको जीवः परमश्चेतनो हरिः। स्वतन्त्रत्वात् स्वतन्त्रो हि नैव दोषेण लिप्यते॥"
cetanābhāsako jīvaḥ paramaścetano hariḥ। svatantratvāt svatantro hi naiva doṣeṇa lipyate॥
[चेतनाभासकः (cetanābhāsakaḥ) - reflection of consciousness; जीवः (jīvaḥ) - individual being; परमः (paramaḥ) - supreme; चेतनः (cetanaḥ) - conscious; हरिः (hariḥ) - Hari (God); स्वतन्त्रत्वात् (svatantratvāt) - due to independence; स्वतन्त्रः (svatantraḥ) - independent; हि (hi) - indeed; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - certainly; दोषेण (doṣeṇa) - by fault; लिप्यते (lipyate) - is affected;]
The individual being is merely a reflection of the supreme consciousness of the truly independent Lord Hari. Because of His independence, He is not touched by any faults."
इति महाकौर्मे॥
iti mahākaurme॥
[इति (iti) - thus; महाकौर्मे (mahākaurme) - in the great Kaurma;]
- stated thus in the great Kaurma Purana.
स एक एव सर्वभूतान्तरात्मा। तस्य रूपं रूपं प्रतिरूपाख्यो जीवो बभूव। बहिश्चासौ परमात्मनो नितरां भिन्नः। परतन्त्रत्वात्।
sa eka eva sarvabhūtāntarātmā। tasya rūpaṃ rūpaṃ pratirūpākhyo jīvo babhūva। bahiścāsau paramātmano nitarāṃ bhinnaḥ। paratantratvāt।
[स (sa) - he; एक (eka) - one; एव (eva) - only; सर्व (sarva) - all; भूत (bhūta) - beings; अन्तरात्मा (antarātmā) - inner self; तस्य (tasya) - his; रूपं (rūpaṃ) - form; रूपं (rūpaṃ) - form; प्रतिरूप (pratirūpa) - reflection; आख्यः (ākhyaḥ) - called; जीवः (jīvaḥ) - soul; बभूव (babhūva) - became; बहिः (bahiḥ) - outside; च (ca) - and; असौ (asau) - he; परमात्मनः (paramātmanaḥ) - of the Supreme Self; नितरां (nitarāṃ) - completely; भिन्नः (bhinnaḥ) - different; परतन्त्रत्वात् (paratantratvāt) - due to dependence;]
He is the sole Inner-Ātmān of all beings. His various forms, known as the reflections, became individual being. Externally, he, the individual being, is entirely distinct from the Supreme Being, due to his dependence.
"आत्मैवेदमग्र आसीत्" इत्यादिवत् अनादित्वापेक्षया।
"ātmaivedamagra āsīt" ityādivat anāditvāpekṣayā।
[आत्मा (ātmā) - ātmā; एव (eva) - indeed; इदम् (idam) - this; अग्र (agra) - before; आसीत् (āsīt) - was; इति (iti) - thus; आदिवत् (ādivat) - like the beginning; अनादित्व (anāditva) - eternality; अपेक्षया (apekṣayā) - with reference to;]
("The self alone was this in the beginning" thus, like the beginning, with reference to eternality.)
The statement like "The Ātmān alone was there in the beginning" - are said referring to the concept of eternality.
"आत्मनिस्थं हरिं जानन् मुच्यते नात्र संशयः। जीवैक्येन तु तं ध्यायन्जा तमस्यन्धे पतेद् ध्रुवम्॥"
"ātmanisthaṃ hariṃ jānan mucyate nātra saṃśayaḥ। jīvaikyena tu taṃ dhyāyanjā tamasyandhe pated dhruvam॥"
[आत्मनिस्थं (ātmanisthaṃ) - established in the self; हरिं (hariṃ) - Hari (God); जानन् (jānan) - knowing; मुच्यते (mucyate) - is liberated; न (na) - not; अत्र (atra) - here; संशयः (saṃśayaḥ) - doubt; जीवैक्येन (jīvaikyena) - non distinction among individual beings; तु (tu) - but; तं (taṃ) - him; ध्यायन् (dhyāyan) - meditating; जा (jā) - born; तमसि (tamasi) - in darkness; अन्धे (andhe) - blind; पतेत् (pated) - falls; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly;]
"There is no doubt that one who knows Lord Hari and is established in the Ātmān is liberated. However, meditating on him with non-distinction among individual beings is born in darkness and will certainly fall into blindness."

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
