Kāthakopaniṣat Bhāshya (काठकोपनिषत् )
1.1.07-08
आशाप्रतीक्षे सङ्गतं सूनृतां च इष्टापूर्ते पुत्रपशूंश्च सर्वान्। एतद् वृङ्क्ते पुरुषस्याल्पमेधसो यस्यानश्नन् वसति ब्राह्मणो गृहे ॥७॥
āśā-pratīkṣe saṅgataṁ sūnṛtāṁ ca iṣṭā-pūrte putra-paśūṁś ca sarvān. etad vṛṅkte puruṣasya alpamedhaso yasya anaśnan vasati brāhmaṇo gṛhe ॥7॥
[आशा (āśā) - hope; प्रतीक्षे (pratīkṣe) - expectation; सङ्गतम् (saṅgatam) - mutual accord; सूनृताम् (sūnṛtām) - pleasant speech; च (ca) - and; इष्टापूर्ते (iṣṭā-pūrte) - sacrificial and charitable works; पुत्रपशून् (putra-paśūn) - sons and cattle; च (ca) - and; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; एतत् (etat) - this; वृङ्क्ते (vṛṅkte) - deprives/cuts off; पुरुषस्य (puruṣasya) - of a person; अल्पमेधसः (alpamedhasaḥ) - of little understanding; यस्य (yasya) - in whose; अनश्नन् (anaśnan) - unfed; वसति (vasati) - dwells; ब्राह्मणः (brāhmaṇaḥ) - a Brāhmaṇa; गृहे (gṛhe) - in the house]
Hope, expectation, companionship, pleasant speech, sacrificial and charitable acts, sons and cattle — all these deprive a man of little understanding, in whose house a Brāhmaṇa dwells unfed.
तिस्रो रात्रीर्यदवात्सीर्गृहे मे अनश्नन् ब्रह्मन्नतिथिर्नमस्यः। नमस्तेऽस्तु ब्रह्मन् स्वस्ति मेऽस्तु तस्मात् प्रति त्रीन् वरान् वृणीष्व ॥८॥
tisro rātrīr yad avātsīr gṛhe me anaśnan brahman atithiḥ namasyaḥ. namaḥ te astu brahman svasti me astu tasmāt prati trīn varān vṛṇīṣva ॥8॥
[तिस्रः (tisraḥ) - three; रात्रीः (rātrīḥ) - nights; यत् (yat) - that; अवात्सीः (avātsīḥ) - you stayed; गृहे (gṛhe) - in the house; मे (me) - of mine; अनश्नन् (anaśnan) - unfed; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brāhmaṇa; अतिथिः (atithiḥ) - guest; नमस्यः (namasyaḥ) - worthy of reverence; नमः (namaḥ) - obeisance; ते (te) - to you; अस्तु (astu) - let there be; ब्रह्मन् (brahman) - O Brāhmaṇa; स्वस्ति (svasti) - well-being; मे (me) - to me; अस्तु (astu) - let it be; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; प्रति (prati) - in return; त्रीन् (trīn) - three; वरान् (varān) - boons; वृणीष्व (vṛṇīṣva) - choose]
You, O Brāhmaṇa, the revered guest, have stayed in my house unfed for three nights. O Brāhmaṇa, let there be salutations to you and well-being for me. Therefore, ask three boons in return.
Bhāṣya 1.1.07-08
Up on arrival, Yama honoured him and granted three boons.
इत्युक्त स्स यमः तं तु सम्पूज्यादात् वरत्रयम्॥
ity uktaḥ saḥ yamaḥ tam tu sampūjya adāt vara-trayam
[इति (iti) - thus; उक्तः (uktaḥ) - having been spoken to; सः (saḥ) - he; यमः (yamaḥ) - Yama; तं (tam) - to him; तु (tu) - indeed; सम्पूज्य (sampūjya) - having honored; अदात् (adāt) - gave; वरत्रयम् (vara-trayam) - three boons]
Thus addressed (by his wife), Yama, having honoured him, granted him three boons.

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
