īśāvāsyamidaṁ sarvaṁ yatkiñca jagatyāṁ jagat। tena tyaktena bhuñjīthāḥ mā gr̥dhaḥ kasyasvid dhanam॥1॥
[ईशावास्यम् (īśāvāsyam) - the lord's is; इदं (idam) - this; सर्वं (sarvam) - all; यत् (yat) - whatever; किञ्च (kinca) - whatsoever; जगत्यां (jagatyām) - in the universe; जगत् (jagat) - moving/changing; तेन (tena) - by Him, i.e. by the Lord; त्यक्तेन (tyaktena) - left over by Him, i.e. given by; भुञ्जीथाः (bhuṅjīthāḥ) - enjoy; मा (mā) - do not; गृधः (gṛdhaḥ) - covet or desire; कस्यस्वित् (kasyasvit) - of anyone else; धनम् (dhanam) - wealth;]
Everything that exists in this ever-changing universe belongs to the Lord. Enjoy that which is given by Him, and do not covet the wealth of others.
Īśā.Bhāshya 01
This universe is incapable of engaging in action on its own, Hence it belongs to the Lord. Therefore, one should enjoy only what is given.
īśasya āvāsayogyam īśāvāsyam। jagatyāṁ prakr̥tau। tena īśena। tyaktena dattena। bhuñjīthāḥ।
The word 'īśāvāsyam', i.e. the lord's, is that which is fit for the dwelling of the Lord. The word 'jagatyām' means 'prakrti', i.e. the insentient, or the presiding deity of the insentient. The word 'tena', i.e. by the Lord. The word 'tyaktena' is used to mean 'given by', to enjoy.
"svataḥ pravr̥tyāśaktatvāt īśāvāsyamidaṁ jagat । pravr̥ttaye prakr̥tigaṁ yasmātsaprakr̥tīśvaraḥ। tadadhīnapravr̥ttitvā tadīyaṁ sarvameva yat। taddattenaiva bhuñjīthāḥ ato nānyaṁ prayācayet॥"
"Because this universe is incapable of engaging in action on its own, it belongs to the Lord. The tendency to act is dependent on insentient Prakrti and He is the lord of that insentient Prakrti as well. Indeed, including the tendency to act, everything is under His control only. Therefore, one should enjoy only what is given by Him and not covet from others."
