Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 11.47
श्रीभगवानुवाच
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
[श्रीभगवान् (śrī-bhagavān) - the Blessed Lord; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
The Auspicious Lord said:
मया प्रसन्नेन तवार्जुनेदं रूपं परं दर्शितमात्मयोगात्। तेजोमयं विश्वमनन्तमाद्यं यन्मे त्वदन्येन न दृष्टपूर्वम् ॥४७॥
mayā prasannena tavārjunedaṁ rūpaṁ paraṁ darśitam ātma-yogāt। tejo-mayaṁ viśvam anantam ādyaṁ yan me tvad-anyena na dṛṣṭa-pūrvam ॥47॥
[मया (mayā) - by me; प्रसन्नेन (prasannena) - being gracious; तव (tava) - to you; अर्जुन (arjuna) - O Arjuna; इदं (idaṁ) - this; रूपं (rūpaṁ) - form; परं (param) - supreme; दर्शितम् (darśitam) - shown; आत्मयोगात् (ātma-yogāt) - by inner power; तेजोमयं (tejo-mayam) - full of brilliance; विश्वम् (viśvam) - the universe; अनन्तम् (anantam) - infinite; आद्यं (ādyaṁ) - original; यत् (yat) - which; मे (me) - by me; त्वत्-अन्येन (tvat-anyena) - by anyone other than you; न (na) - not; दृष्टपूर्वम् (dṛṣṭa-pūrvam) - seen before;]
O Arjuna, by my grace, this supreme form has been shown to you through my inner power, brilliant, infinite, universal, original, which has not been seen before by anyone other than you.
Gīta Tātparya 11.47
'Viśva' - the Lord possessing complete qualities. As per the testimonial from Brahmāṇḍa Purāṇa: Brahma, Rudra, and Indra is the hierarchical sequence.
"विश्वनामा स भगवान् यतः पूर्णगुणः प्रभुः।"
"viśva-nāmā sa bhagavān yataḥ pūrṇa-guṇaḥ prabhuḥ।"
[ विश्वनामाः (viśva-nāmāḥ) - named as Viśva; सः (saḥ) - he; भगवान् (bhagavān) - the Blessed Lord; यतः (yataḥ) - because; पूर्णगुणः (pūrṇa-guṇaḥ) - possessed of complete qualities; प्रभुः (prabhuḥ) - the Lord; ]
"He is called Viśva because he is the Lord possessing complete qualities."
इति पाद्मे।
iti pādme।
[ इति (iti) - thus; पाद्मे (pādme) - in the Padma [Purāṇa]; ]
- stated thus in the Padma Purāṇa.
त्वदन्येन न दृष्टपूर्वम् इत्यनेन तेनैव इन्द्रशरीरेण दृष्टमिति ज्ञायते। त्वदन्येनेति त्वदवरापेक्षया। तैरपि तद्वत् न दृष्टमित्येव।
tvad-anyena na dṛṣṭa-pūrvam ity-anena tenaiva indra-śarīreṇa dṛṣṭam iti jñāyate। tvad-anyeneti tvad-avarāpekṣayā। tair-api tadvat na dṛṣṭam ity-eva।
[ त्वदन्येन (tvad-anyena) - by one other than you; न (na) - not; दृष्टपूर्वम् (dṛṣṭa-pūrvam) - seen before; इति (iti) - thus; अनेन (anena) - by this; तेनैव (tenaiva) - by that very one; इन्द्रशरीरेण (indra-śarīreṇa) - with Indra’s body; दृष्टम् (dṛṣṭam) - seen; इति (iti) - thus; ज्ञायते (jñāyate) - it is known; त्वदन्येन-इति (tvad-anyena-iti) - 'by one other than you' thus; त्वदवरापेक्षया (tvad-avarāpekṣayā) - by reference to inferiors to you; तैः अपि (taiḥ api) - even by them; तद्वत् (tadvat) - in that manner; न (na) - not; दृष्टम् (dṛṣṭam) - seen; इति एव (iti eva) - thus indeed; ]
By the phrase "not seen before by anyone other than you", it is known that it was seen only through Indra’s body. The phrase implies comparison to those inferior to you. Even by them, it was likewise not seen.
"विश्वरूपं प्रथमतो ब्रह्माऽपश्यच्चतुर्मुखः। तच्छतांशेन रुद्रस्तु तच्छतांशेन वासवः। यथेन्द्रेण पुरा दृष्टमपश्यत् सोऽर्जुनोपि सन्। तदन्ये क्रमयोगेन तच्छतांशादिदर्शिनः॥"
"viśva-rūpaṁ prathamato brahmā'paśyac-catur-mukhaḥ। tac-chatāṁśena rudras-tu tac-chatāṁśena vāsavaḥ। yathendreṇa purā dṛṣṭam apaśyat so'rjuno'pi san। tadanye krama-yogena tac-chatāṁśādi-darśinaḥ॥"
[ विश्वरूपम् (viśva-rūpam) - the universal form; प्रथमतः (prathamataḥ) - first; ब्रह्मा (brahmā) - Brahmā; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; चतुरमुखः (catur-mukhaḥ) - four-faced; तत्-शतांशेन (tat-śatāṁśena) - by one hundredth part of that; रुद्रः (rudraḥ) - Rudra; तु (tu) - indeed; तत्-शतांशेन (tat-śatāṁśena) - by one hundredth part of that; वासवः (vāsavaḥ) - Indra; यथा (yathā) - as; इन्द्रेण (indreṇa) - by Indra; पुरा (purā) - formerly; दृष्टम् (dṛṣṭam) - seen; अपश्यत् (apaśyat) - saw; सः (saḥ) - he; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; अपि (api) - also; सन् (san) - being; तत्-अन्ये (tat-anye) - those others; क्रमयोगेन (krama-yogena) - in order; तत्-शतांश-आदि-दर्शिनः (tat-śatāṁśādi-darśinaḥ) - seeing a hundredth part of that etc.; ]
"Brahmā, the four-faced, first saw the universal form. Rudra saw it by a hundredth part of that, and Indra by a hundredth part of that. Just as Indra formerly saw it, Arjuna too, being such, saw it. Others beheld only portions of it in order."
इति ब्रह्माण्डे ॥४७॥
iti brahmāṇḍe ॥47॥

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
