B.G 11.12
दिवि सूर्यसहस्रस्य भवेद्युगपदुत्थिता। यदि भाः सदृशी सा स्याद्भासस्तस्य महात्मनः ॥१२॥
divi sūrya-sahasrasya bhaved yugapat utthitā. yadi bhāḥ sadṛśī sā syāt bhāsaḥ tasya mahātmanaḥ ॥12॥
[दिवि (divi) - in the sky; सूर्य-सहस्रस्य (sūrya-sahasrasya) - of a thousand suns; भवेत् (bhavet) - were to be; युगपद्-उत्थिता (yugapat-utthitā) - rising simultaneously; यदि (yadi) - if; भाः (bhāḥ) - the radiance; सदृशी (sadṛśī) - similar; सा (sā) - that; स्यात् (syāt) - would be; भासः (bhāsaḥ) - the brilliance; तस्य (tasya) - of that; महात्मनः (mahātmanaḥ) - great being;]
If the radiance of a thousand suns were to rise simultaneously in the sky, that might resemble the brilliance of that great being.
Gīta Bhāshya 11.12
The word 'thousand' signifies the infinite. One must contemplate on the greater purport in a broader sense. No purpose gets served by stating a specific quantity.
सहस्रशब्दोऽनन्तवाची। तदपि "पाकशासनविक्रमः" इति वत् प्रत्यायनार्थमेव। तथाहि ऋग्वेदखिलेषु-
sahasra-śabdaḥ ananta-vācī. tad api "pākaśāsana-vikramaḥ" iti vat pratyāyana-artham eva. tathā hi ṛgveda-akhileṣu-
[सहस्र-शब्दः (sahasra-śabdaḥ) - the word 'thousand'; अनन्त-वाची (ananta-vācī) - denotes infinity; तत् अपि (tat api) - that too; पाकशासन-विक्रमः (pākaśāsana-vikramaḥ) - valor of the wielder of the thunderbolt (Indra); इति-वद् (iti-vat) - as in the phrase; प्रत्यायन-अर्थम्-एव (pratyāyana-artham-eva) - only for the purpose of suggestion; तथा-हि (tathā hi) - just so; ऋग्वेद-अखिलेषु (ṛgveda-akhileṣu) - in all the Ṛgveda;]
The word 'thousand' signifies the infinite. Like the phrase "valour of the wielder of the thunderbolt", it is used merely for suggestive emphasis. Similar are the suggestions in ṛgvedakhila Vedic testimonial.
"अनन्तशक्तिः परमोऽनन्तवीर्यः सोऽनन्ततेजाश्च ततस्ततोऽपि॥"
"ananta-śaktiḥ paramaḥ ananta-vīryaḥ saḥ ananta-tejāḥ ca tataḥ tataḥ api॥"
[अनन्त-शक्तिः (ananta-śaktiḥ) - of infinite power; परमः (paramaḥ) - supreme; अनन्त-वीर्यः (ananta-vīryaḥ) - of infinite might; सः (saḥ) - he; अनन्त-तेजाः (ananta-tejāḥ) - of infinite brilliance; च (ca) - and; ततः-ततः-अपि (tataḥ tataḥ api) - beyond even that and that;]
"He is of infinite power, supreme, of infinite might, of infinite brilliance, and beyond all that."

[महा-तात्पर्यात्-च (mahā-tātparyāt ca) - due to the great intent and significance; बाहुल्यम् (bāhulyam) - abundance or multiplicity; न-च (na ca) - and not; परिमाण-उक्त्या (parimāṇa-uktyā) - by statement of quantity; किञ्चित् (kiñcit) - any; प्रयोजनम् (prayojanam) - purpose;]
The greater purport needs to be understood in a broader sense, with multiple examples pointing to it. No purpose gets served by stating a specific quantity.
