B.G 2.11
श्रीभगवानुवाच। अशोच्यानन्वशोचस्त्वं प्रज्ञावादांश्च भाषसे। गतासूनगतासूंश्च नानुशोचन्ति पण्डिताः ॥ २-११॥
śrībhagavānuvāca। aśocyān anvaśocas tvaṁ prajñāvādāṁś ca bhāṣase। gatāsūn agatāsūṁś ca nānuśocanti paṇḍitāḥ ॥ 2-11॥
[श्रीभगवान् (śrībhagavān) - the Supreme Lord; उवाच (uvāca) - said; अशोच्यान् (aśocyān) - those who are not to be grieved for; अनु (anu) - after; अशोकः (aśokaḥ) - grieving; त्वं (tvaṁ) - you; प्रज्ञावादान् (prajñāvādān) - seemingly wise words (reasoned in your own way); च (ca) - and; भाषसे (bhāṣase) - speak; गत (gata) - gone; असून् (asūn) - life; अगत (agata) - not gone; असून् (asūn) - life; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; अनुशोचन्ति (anuśocanti) - lament; पण्डिताः (paṇḍitāḥ) - the wise;]
The Supreme Lord said: You are mourning for those who should not be mourned for and speak seemingly wise words reasoned in your own way. The wise lament neither for the living nor for the dead.
Gīta Bhāshya 2.11
'prajñāvādān' - thoughts based on one's own intelligence. The wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living.
प्रज्ञावादान् स्वमनीषोत्थवचनानि। कथमशोच्याः? गतासून् ॥११ ॥
prajñāvādān svamanīṣotthavacanāni। katham aśocyāḥ? gatāsūn ॥11॥
[प्रज्ञावादान् (prajñāvādān) - Here 'prajñāvādān' means; स्वमनीषोत्थवचनानि (svamanīṣotthavacanāni) - based on one's own intelligence and thoughts; कथम (katham) - how; अशोच्याः (aśocyāḥ) - not to be lamented; गतासून् (gatāsūn) - those who have lost life;]
Here 'prajñāvādān' means thoughts based on one's own intelligence. Why should not one worry? - the wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living.
Gīta Tātparya 2.11
'prajñāvādān' = 'prajna-avāda', i.e. opinion that is opposed to wise. Why? The wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living.
प्रकर्षेण जानन्तीति प्रज्ञाः तदवादः प्रज्ञावादः। प्राज्ञमतविरुद्धवादं वदसि। कथम् ? गतासून् ॥ ११ ॥
prakarṣeṇa jānantīti prajñāḥ tadavādaḥ prajñāvādaḥ। prājñamataviruddhavādaṃ vadasi। katham ? gatāsūn ॥ 11 ॥
[प्रकर्षेण (prakarṣeṇa) - those who can grasp; जानन्ति (jānanti) - understand well; इति (iti) - thus; प्रज्ञाः (prajñāḥ) - wise ones; तत् (tat) - that; अवादः (avādaḥ) - opposed opinion; प्रज्ञावादः (prajñāvādaḥ) - is 'prajñāvāda'; प्राज्ञ (prājña) - wise; मत (mata) - opinion; विरुद्ध (viruddha) - contradictory; वादं (vādaṃ) - speech; वदसि (vadāsi) - you speak; कथम् (katham) - why?; गतासून् (gatāsūn) - those who have lost life;]
The 'Prajña' are those who can grasp and understand well. The argument opposed to them is 'prajña-avāda', (So, Krishna says) you are stating an opinion that is opposed to Jnānins. Why? The answer is given by 'gatāsūn' (the wise grieve neither for the dead nor for the living).
