Shat.Upa 03.05

अत्रैतदेकशतं नाडीनाम्। तासां शतमेकैकस्यां द्वासप्ततिं प्रतिशाखानाडीसहस्राणि भवङ्त्यासु व्यानश्चरति। अथैकयोर्ध्वं उदानः पुण्येन पुण्यं लोकं नयति पापेन पापमुभाभ्यामेव मनुष्यलोकम् ॥५॥

atraitadekaśataṃ nāḍīnām। tāsāṃ śatamekaikasyāṃ dvāsaptatiṃ pratiśākhānāḍīsahasrāṇi bhavaṅtyāsu vyānaścarati। athaikayordhvaṃ udānaḥ puṇyena puṇyaṃ lokaṃ nayati pāpena pāpamubhābhyāmeva manuṣyalokam ॥5॥

[अत्र (atra) - here; एतत् (etat) - this; एकशतं (ekaśataṃ) - hundred and one; नाडीनाम् (nāḍīnām) - of channels; तासां (tāsāṃ) - of them; शतम् (śatam) - hundred; एकैकस्यां (ekaikasyāṃ) - in each; द्वासप्ततिं (dvāsaptatiṃ) - seventy-two; प्रतिशाखा (pratiśākhā) - branch; नाडीसहस्राणि (nāḍīsahasrāṇi) - thousands of channels; भवन्ति (bhavanti) - exist; आसु (āsu) - in them; व्यानः (vyānaḥ) - Vyāna; चरति (carati) - moves; अथ (atha) - then; एकयोः (ekayoḥ) - in one; ऊर्ध्वं (ūrdhvaṃ) - upwards; उदानः (udānaḥ) - Udāna; पुण्येन (puṇyena) - by virtue; पुण्यम् (puṇyam) - virtue; लोकं (lokaṃ) - world; नयति (nayati) - leads; पापेन (pāpena) - by sin; पापम् (pāpam) - sin; उभाभ्याम् (ubhābhyām) - by both; एव (eva) - indeed; मनुष्यलोकम् (manuṣyalokam) - human world;]

In this context, there are a hundred and one main channels, and within each there are branch channels, totalling seventy-two thousand, where the Vyāna energy circulates. The Udāna energy moves upwards, guiding one to the virtuous worlds through virtue; leads to the sinful world through sin and to the human world through both.
