Shaṭpraśnopaniṣat Bhāshya (षट्प्रश्नोपनिषद्भाष्यं)
Shat.Upa 01.05
रयिर्वा एतत्सर्वं यन्मूर्तं चामूर्तं च। तस्मान्मूर्तिरेव रयिः। अथाऽदित्य उदयन् यत्प्राचीं दिशं प्रविशति तेन प्राच्यान् प्राणान् रश्मिषु सन्निधत्ते। यद् दक्षिणां यत्प्रतीचीं यदुदीचीं यदधो यदूर्ध्वं यदन्तरा दिशो यत्सर्वं प्रकाशयति तेन सर्वान् प्राणान् रश्मिषु सन्निधत्ते ॥५॥
rayirvā etatsarvaṃ yanmūrtaṃ cāmūrtaṃ ca। tasmānmūrtireva rayiḥ। athā'ditya udayan yatprācīṃ diśaṃ praviśati tena prācyān prāṇān raśmiṣu sannidhatte। yad dakṣiṇāṃ yatpratīcīṃ yadudīcīṃ yadadho yadūrdhvaṃ yadantarā diśo yatsarvaṃ prakāśayati tena sarvān prāṇān raśmiṣu sannidhatte ॥5॥
[रयिः (rayiḥ) - wealth; वा (vā) - or; एतत् (etat) - this; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; यत् (yat) - which; मूर्तं (mūrtaṃ) - manifest; च (ca) - and; अमूर्तं (amūrtaṃ) - unmanifest; तस्मात् (tasmāt) - therefore; मूर्तिः (mūrtiḥ) - form; एव (eva) - indeed; अथ (atha) - then; आदित्यः (ādityaḥ) - the sun; उदयन् (udayan) - rising; यत् (yat) - which; प्राचीं (prācīṃ) - eastern; दिशं (diśaṃ) - direction; प्रविशति (praviśati) - enters; तेन (tena) - by that; प्राच्यान् (prācyān) - eastern; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - vital energies; रश्मिषु (raśmiṣu) - in the rays; सन्निधत्ते (sannidhatte) - places; यत् (yat) - which; दक्षिणां (dakṣiṇāṃ) - southern; यत् (yat) - which; प्रतीचीं (pratīcīṃ) - western; यत् (yat) - which; उदीचीं (udīcīṃ) - northern; यत् (yat) - which; अधः (adhaḥ) - below; यत् (yat) - which; ऊर्ध्वं (ūrdhvaṃ) - above; यत् (yat) - which; अन्तरा (antarā) - between; दिशः (diśaḥ) - directions; यत् (yat) - which; सर्वं (sarvaṃ) - all; प्रकाशयति (prakāśayati) - illuminates; तेन (tena) - by that; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - vital energies; रश्मिषु (raśmiṣu) - in the rays; सन्निधत्ते (sannidhatte) - places;]
(Wealth is indeed all this, which is manifest and unmanifest. Therefore, form is indeed wealth. Then, as the sun rises and enters the eastern direction, it places the eastern vital energies in the rays. Whatever illuminates the southern, western, northern, below, above, and intermediate directions, by that it places all vital energies in the rays.)
All that is manifest and unmanifest is indeed wealth. Therefore, form itself is wealth. As the sun rises and enters the eastern direction, it energizes the eastern vital forces through its rays. Similarly, it illuminates and energizes all directions—southern, western, northern, below, above, and in between—through its rays, placing all vital energies within them.
Bhāṣya 01.05
But He, the Lord, controls the breaths in the Ātman himself.
अमूर्तस्थः स वायुस्तु मूर्तसंस्था सरस्वती। आदित्यस्थः स वायुस्तु प्राणानात्मनि सन्नयेत्॥
amūrtasthaḥ sa vāyustu mūrtasaṃsthā sarasvatī। ādityasthaḥ sa vāyustu prāṇānātmani sannayet॥
[अमूर्तस्थः (amūrtasthaḥ) - in the formless state; सः (saḥ) - he; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - air; तु (tu) - but; मूर्तसंस्था (mūrtasaṃsthā) - in the form state; सरस्वती (sarasvatī) - Saraswati; आदित्यस्थः (ādityasthaḥ) - in the sun state; सः (saḥ) - he; वायुः (vāyuḥ) - air; तु (tu) - but; प्राणान् (prāṇān) - breaths; आत्मनि (ātmani) - in the Ātman; सन्नयेत् (sannayet) - should control;]
In the formless state, he is air, but in the form state, he is Saraswati. In the Sun state he is the air, but he controls the breaths in the Ātman himself.
प्राच्याः प्राणास्तथेन्द्राद्या दक्षिणाश्च यमादयः। प्रतीच्या वरुणाद्यास्तु सोमाद्या उत्तराः स्मृताः। शेषमित्राववाचीनौ वीन्द्रकामावुदक्तनौ। सभार्याः कोणपैः सार्धं चत्वारो दिशि दिश्यपि॥
prācyāḥ prāṇāstathe ndrādyā dakṣiṇāśca yamādayaḥ। pratīcyā varuṇādyāstu somādyā uttarāḥ smṛtāḥ। śeṣamitrāvavācī nau vīndrakāmāvudaktanau। sabhāryāḥ koṇapaiḥ sārdhaṃ catvāro diśi diśyapi॥
[प्राच्याः (prācyāḥ) - eastern; प्राणाः (prāṇāḥ) - vital breaths; तथा (tathā) - and; इन्द्राद्याः (indrādyāḥ) - Indra and others; दक्षिणाः (dakṣiṇāḥ) - southern; च (ca) - and; यमादयः (yamādayaḥ) - Yama and others; प्रतीच्या (pratīcyā) - western; वरुणाद्याः (varuṇādyāḥ) - Varuna and others; तु (tu) - but; सोमाद्याः (somādyāḥ) - Soma and others; उत्तराः (uttarāḥ) - northern; स्मृताः (smṛtāḥ) - are remembered; शेषमित्रौ (śeṣamitrau) - Shesha and Mitra; अवाचीनौ (avācī nau) - southwest; वीन्द्रकामौ (vīndrakāmau) - Vindra and Kama; उदक्तनौ (udaktanau) - northeast; सभार्याः (sabhāryāḥ) - with wives; कोणपैः (koṇapaiḥ) - with corners; सार्धं (sārdhaṃ) - together; चत्वारः (catvāraḥ) - four; दिशि (diśi) - in direction; दिश्यपि (diśyapi) - in every direction;]
The eastern direction is associated with vital breaths and deities like Indra, the southern with Yama, the western with Varuna, and the northern with Soma. Shesha and Mitra are in the southwest, while Vindra and Kama are in the northeast. Along with their wives, they occupy the four corners and all directions.

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
