2.2.08

य एषु सुप्तेषु जागर्ति कामं कामं पुरुषो निर्ममाणः। तदेव शुक्रं तद्ब्रह्म तदेवामृतमुच्यते। तस्मिन् लोकाः श्रिताः सर्वे तदु नात्येति कश्चन। एतद्वैतत् ॥८॥

ya eṣu supteṣu jāgarti kāmaṃ kāmaṃ puruṣo nirmamāṇaḥ। tadeva śukraṃ tadbrahma tadevāmṛtamucyate। tasmin lokāḥ śritāḥ sarve tadu nātyeti kaścana। etadvaitat ॥8॥

[य (ya) - who; एषु (eṣu) - among these; सुप्तेषु (supteṣu) - sleeping; जागर्ति (jāgarti) - wakes; कामं (kāmaṃ) - desire; कामं (kāmaṃ) - desire; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - person; निर्ममाणः (nirmamāṇaḥ) - creating; तत् (tat) - that; एव (eva) - indeed; शुक्रं (śukraṃ) - pure; तत् (tat) - that; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; तत् (tat) - that; एव (eva) - indeed; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - immortal; उच्यते (ucyate) - is called; तस्मिन् (tasmin) - in that; लोकाः (lokāḥ) - worlds; श्रिताः (śritāḥ) - are situated; सर्वे (sarve) - all; तत् (tat) - that; उ (u) - indeed; न (na) - not; अत्येति (atyeti) - transcends; कश्चन (kaścana) - anyone; एतत् (etat) - this; व (vai) - indeed; एतत् (etat) - this; ॥८॥ (॥8॥) - ॥8॥;]

Among all those who are asleep, the one who remains awake, creating desire after desire, is indeed the pure one, the Brahman, and is called the immortal. In that, all the worlds are contained, and no one can transcend it. This is that essence.
