2.1.12
अङगुष्ठमात्रः पुरुषो मध्य आत्मनि तिष्ठति। ईशानो भूतभव्यस्य न ततो विजुगुप्सते। एतद्वै तत् ॥१२॥
aṅguṣṭhamātraḥ puruṣo madhya ātmani tiṣṭhati। īśāno bhūtabhavyasya na tato vijugupsate। etadvai tat ॥12॥
[अङगुष्ठमात्रः (aṅguṣṭhamātraḥ) - of the size of a thumb; पुरुषः (puruṣaḥ) - the person; मध्य (madhya) - in the middle; आत्मनि (ātmani) - in the self; तिष्ठति (tiṣṭhati) - resides; ईशानः (īśānaḥ) - the lord; भूतभव्यस्य (bhūtabhavyasya) - of the past and future; न (na) - not; ततः (tataḥ) - from that; विजुगुप्सते (vijugupsate) - feels disgust; एतत् (etat) - this; वै (vai) - indeed; तत् (tat) - that;]
(The person of the size of a thumb resides in the middle of the self. The lord of the past and future does not feel disgust from that. This indeed is that.)
The Puruṣa, the supreme being, small as a thumb, resides in the centre of the 'ātman'. That lord of all that was and will be, does not feel an aversion to it. This indeed is the ultimate truth.
