1.1.24

ये ये कामा दुर्लभा मर्त्यलोके सर्वान् कामांश्छन्दतः प्रार्थयस्व। इमा रामाः सरथाः सतूर्या न हीदृशा लम्भनीया मनुष्यैः॥ आभिर्मत्प्रत्ताभिः परिचारयस्व नचिकेतो मरणं माऽनुप्राक्षीः ॥२४॥

ye ye kāmā durlabhā martyaloke sarvān kāmāṁś chandataḥ prārthayasva. imā rāmāḥ sarathāḥ satūryā na hīdṛśā lambhanīyā manuṣyaiḥ॥ ābhir matprattābhiḥ paricārayasva naciketo maraṇaṁ mā'nuprākṣīḥ ॥24॥

[ये ये (ye ye) - whatever; कामाः (kāmāḥ) - desires; दुर्लभाः (durlabhāḥ) - difficult to obtain; मर्त्य-लोके (martya-loke) - in the mortal world; सर्वान् (sarvān) - all; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; छन्दतः (chandataḥ) - according to your wish; प्रार्थयस्व (prārthayasva) - ask for; इमाः (imāḥ) - these; रामाः (rāmāḥ) - celestial maidens; सरथाः (sarathāḥ) - with chariots; सतूर्याः (satūryāḥ) - with musical instruments; न (na) - not; हीदृशाः (hīdṛśāḥ) - like these; लम्भनीयाः (lambhanīyāḥ) - are obtainable; मनुष्यैः (manuṣyaiḥ) - by men; आभिः (ābhiḥ) - with these; मत्-प्रत्ताभिः (mat-prattābhiḥ) - given by me; परिचारयस्व (paricārayasva) - enjoy their service; नचिकेतः (naciketaḥ) - O Naciketas; मरणम् (maraṇam) - death; मा (mā) - do not; अनुप्राक्षीः (anuprākṣīḥ) - inquire about;]

Whatever rare desires exist in the mortal world, ask for all of them freely. Here are celestial maidens with chariots and music; such are not to be gained by mortals. Enjoy their service, given by me, O Naciketas, but do not inquire about death.

Bhāṣya 1.1.24

Do not inquire about the revered one who abides in death.

मरणे स्थितं भगवन्तं माऽनुप्राक्षीः॥

maraṇe sthitaṁ bhagavantaṁ mā'nuprākṣīḥ॥

[मरणे (maraṇe) - in death; स्थितं (sthitaṁ) - abiding; भगवन्तं (bhagavantaṁ) - the revered one; मा (mā) - do not; अनुप्राक्षीः (anuprākṣīḥ) - inquire;]

Do not inquire about the revered one who abides in death.
