इन्द्रियाणि हयान्याहु: विषयांस्तेषु गोचरान्। आत्मेन्द्रियमनोयुक्तं भोक्तेत्याहुर्मनीषिणः ॥४॥

indriyāṇi hayānyāhuḥ viṣayāṁs teṣu gocarān। ātmendriyamano yuktaṁ bhoktety āhur manīṣiṇaḥ ॥4॥

[इन्द्रियाणि (indriyāṇi) - the senses; हयान् (hayān) - as the horses; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they say; विषयान् (viṣayān) - the objects; तेषु (teṣu) - for them; गोचरान् (gocarān) - as the paths; आत्म (ātma) - the ātma; इन्द्रिय-मनः-युक्तम् (indriya-manaḥ-yuktam) - joined with senses and mind; भोक्ता (bhoktā) - the enjoyer; इति (iti) - thus; आहुः (āhuḥ) - they say; मनीषिणः (manīṣiṇaḥ) - the wise;]

The senses are called the horses, and the sense-objects their paths. The Ātman, the being, joined with the senses and mind, is said to be the enjoyer by the wise.
