Jayanti Nirnaya 01

रोहिण्यामर्धरात्रे तु यदा कालाष्टमी भवेत्। जयन्ती नाम सा प्रोक्ता सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी। यस्यां जातो हरिः साक्षात् निशीथे भगवानजः ॥१॥

rōhiṇyāmardharātrē tu yadā kālāṣṭamī bhavēt। jayantī nāma sā prōktā sarvapāpapraṇāśinī। yasyāṁ jātō hariḥ sākṣāt niśīthē bhagavānajaḥ ॥1॥

[rōhiṇyāmardharātrē = Rōhini star in the middle of the night; yadā tu = when there is; kālāṣṭamī = on the tenth day of the dark lunar fortnight; bhavēt = becomes; jayantī = 'Jayanti'; nāma sā prōktā = is given the name; sarvapāpapraṇāśinī = it dissolves all bad impressions; yasyāṁ = on this day; jātō = was born; hariḥ = lord Hari; sākṣāt = the very; niśīthē = that night; bhagavānajaḥ = the lord, the unborn;]

When Rōhini star is in the middle of the night, on the tenth day of the dark lunar fortnight, is given the name - 'Jayanti'. It dissolves all bad impressions. On this night, the unborn lord Hari was born.
