Jayanti-Nirnaya
Jayanti Nirnaya 02
tasmāt taddinamatyantaṁ puṇyaṁ pāpaharaṁ param। tasmāt sarvairupōṣyā sā jayantī nāma vai sadā। dvijātibhirviśēṣēṇa tadbhaktaiśca viśēṣataḥ ॥2॥
[tasmāt = therefore; taddinamatyantaṁ = that day is supremely; puṇyaṁ = auspicious; pāpaharaṁ = remover of sins; param = of the highest order; tasmāt = therefore; sarvairupōṣyā = It is to be fasted by all; sā jayantī = that Jayanti; nāma = named; vai sadā = always; dvijātibhirviśēṣēṇa = the twice borns in particular; tadbhaktaiśca = and his devottees; viśēṣataḥ = especially;]
Therefore that day is supremely auspicious and removes all sins. Hence, on Jayanti day, fasting is a must for all. Fasting must be observed particularly by the twice borns, also by his special devotees.
