[प्रयत्नात् यतमानः तु योगी संशुद्ध किल्बिषः। अनेक जन्म संसिद्धः ततो याति परां गतिम्॥

Gīta Bhāshya 6.45
The consistent effort that the seeker needs to put for a long period is stressed.
नैकजन्मनि इत्याह - प्रयत्नादिति।
naikajanmani ityāha - prayatnāditi।
[नैकजन्मनि (naika-janmani) - in not just one birth; इति (iti) - thus; आह (āha) - it is said; प्रयत्नात् (prayatnāt) - by effort; इति (iti) - thus;]
It is said that it is not just by multiple births but also through effort, by stating 'prayatnāditi' .
जिज्ञासुः ज्ञात्वा प्रयत्नं करोति। एवम् अनेकजन्मभिः संसिद्धः अपरोक्षज्ञानी भूत्वा परां गतिं याति। आह च -
jijñāsuḥ jñātvā prayatnaṁ karoti। evam anekajanmabhiḥ saṁsiddhaḥ aparokṣajñānī bhūtvā parāṁ gatiṁ yāti। āha ca -
[जिज्ञासुः (jijñāsuḥ) - the seeker; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known the path; प्रयत्नं (prayatnaṁ) - effort; करोति (karoti) - makes; एवम् (evam) - thus; अनेकजन्मभिः (aneka-janmabhiḥ) - through many births; संसिद्धः (saṁsiddhaḥ) - perfected; अपरोक्षज्ञानी (aparokṣa-jñānī) - possessing direct knowledge; भूत्वा (bhūtvā) - having become; पराम् (parām) - supreme; गतिम् (gatim) - destination; याति (yāti) - attains; आह (āha) - it is said; च (ca) - and;]
The seeker, having gained the knowledge of the path, makes an effort. Thus, through many births, having become perfected and gaining 'aparokṣa', i.e. direct perception of reality, he attains the supreme destination. It is also said-
"अतीव श्रद्धया युक्तो जिज्ञासुर्विष्णुतत्परः। ज्ञात्वा ध्यात्वा तथा दृष्ट्वा जन्मभिर्बहुभिः पुमान्। विशेन्नारायणं देवं नान्यथा तु कथञ्चन॥"
"atīva śraddhayā yukto jijñāsurviṣṇutatparaḥ। jñātvā dhyātvā tathā dr̥ṣṭvā janmabhirbahubhiḥ pumān। viśennārāyaṇaṁ devaṁ nānyathā tu kathañcana॥"
[अतीव (atīva) - exceedingly; श्रद्धया (śraddhayā) - with inquisitiveness; युक्तः (yuktaḥ) - endowed; जिज्ञासुः (jijñāsuḥ) - the seeker; विष्णु-तत्परः (viṣṇu-tatparaḥ) - devoted to Vishnu; ज्ञात्वा (jñātvā) - having known; ध्यात्वा (dhyātvā) - having meditated; तथा (tathā) - and; दृष्ट्वा (dṛṣṭvā) - having realized; जन्मभिः (janmabhiḥ) - through births; बहुभिः (bahubhiḥ) - many; पुमान् (pumān) - the person; विशेत् (viśet) - enters; नारायणम् (nārāyaṇam) - Narayana; देवं (devaṁ) - the divine; न (na) - not; अन्यथा (anyathā) - otherwise; तु (tu) - but; कथञ्चन (kathañcana) - in any way;]
"Endowed with intense inquisitiveness, the seeker becomes devoted to Vishnu. Having gained knowledge, meditating for many births, he finally sees directly and enters Lord Narayana, the divine. In no other way, indeed, this can be accomplished."
इति नारदीये ॥४५॥
iti nāradīye ॥45॥
[इति (iti) - thus; नारदीये (nāradiye) - in the Naradiya (text or scripture);]
- stated thus in Naradiya Purana.
