Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 5.13
sarvakarmāṇi manasā saṁnyasyā'ste sukhaṁ vaśī। navadvāre pure dehī naiva kurvanna kārayan ॥13॥
sarva = all; karmāṇi = actions; manasā = through the mind; saṁnyasyā = having renuonced; āste = resides; sukhaṁ = happily; vaśī = self-controlled;। navadvāre = nine gates; pure = city of; dehī = the body; na = not; eva = indeed; kurvan = performing; na = not; kārayan = causing;]
Having renounced all actions through the mind, the self-controlled resides happily in the city of nine gates as the embodied, neither thinking he performs nor attributing cause to himself.
Gīta Bhāshya 5.13
The word 'manasā' indicates renunciation is to achieved in the mind by renouncing the ego. Not by ceasing to act.
punaḥ saṁnyāsaśabdārthaṁ spaṣṭayati - sarvakarmāṇīti। manasā iti viśeṣaṇāt abhimānatyāgaḥ ॥13॥
[पुनः (punaḥ) - Furthermore; संन्यासशब्दार्थं (saṁnyāsa-śabdārthaṁ) - the meaning of the term renunciation; स्पष्टयति (spaṣṭayati) - clarifies; सर्वकर्माणीति (sarva-karmāṇi) - all actions; मनसा (manasā) - by the mind; इति (iti) - thus; विशेषणात् (viśeṣaṇāt) - from the qualifier; अभिमानत्यागः (abhimāna-tyāgaḥ) - renunciation of ego;]
Again, the word 'saṁnyāsa', i.e. renunciation, is further clarified by the verse 'sarvakarmāṇī', i.e. 'all actions'. 'manasā', through the mind , is the adjective (for all the work performed), indicating the renunciation of ego (in the mind).
Gīta Tātparya 5.13
'brahmaṇyādhānam' (5.10) - the attitude that all actions are a form of His worship, and are performed by Him for my well being. The individual being is non-doer because of the absence of 'I am independent' attitude.
tatpūjātmakāni tatkr̥tāni mama śubhārthamiti brahmaṇyādhānam। svātantryābhāvāpekṣayaiva jīvasya akartr̥tvam।
[तत्पूजात्मकानि (tat-pūjātmakāni) - that are in the form of worship for Him; तत्कृतानि (tat-kṛtāni) - those actions performed by Him; मम (mama) - my; शुभार्थमिति (śubhārtham-iti) - for wellbeing purposes; ब्रह्मण्याधानम् (brahmaṇyādhānam) - is 'brahmaṇyādhānam' (Gita 5.10); स्वातन्त्र्याभावापेक्षयैव (svātantryābhāvāpekṣayaiva) - due to the absence of 'i am independent' attitude; जीवस्य (jīvasya) - of the individual soul; अकर्तृत्वम् (akartṛtvam) - non-doership;]
The word 'brahmaṇyādhānam' (Fita 5.10) indicates the attitude that all actions are a form of His worship, and are performed by Him for my well being. Because of the absence of 'I am independent' attitude, the individual being is non-doer.
"स्ववन्दनं यथा पित्रा कारितं शिशुकर्तृकम्। एवं पूजा विष्ण्वधीना भवेज्जीवकृतेत्यपि॥"
svavandanaṁ yathā pitrā kāritaṁ śiśukartr̥kam। evaṁ pūjā viṣṇvadhīnā bhavejjīvakr̥tetyapi॥
[स्ववन्दनं (sva-vandanam) - self-worship; यथा (yathā) - just as; पित्रा (pitṛā) - by a father; कारितं (kāritam) - done; शिशुकर्तृकम् (śiśu-kartr̥kam) - for the sake of a child; एवं (evam) - similarly; पूजा (pūjā) - worship; विष्ण्वधीना (viṣṇv-adhīnā) - dependent on Vishnu; भवेत् (bhavet) - should be; जीवकृतेत्यपि (jīva-kṛtety-api) - even though performed by the individual soul;]
Just as the father performs self-worship in the hands of a child, for the child's wellbeing, similar is the worship performed by the individual soul, dependent on lord Vishnu.
iti pravr̥tte।
[iti pravr̥tte = stated thus in Pravrtti testimonial.]
-stated thus in Pravrtti testimonial.
ato manasaiva karmanyāso'svātantryāpekṣayā ॥10-13॥
[अतः (atah) - therefore; मनसा (manasā) - by the mind; एव (eva) - alone; कर्मन्यासः (karmanyāsah) - renunciation of actions; अस्वातन्त्र्यापेक्षया (asvātantryāpekṣayā) - dependent on lack of independence;]
Therefore, renunciation of actions is possible by the mind alone, because of the lack of independence.
