Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 2.49
dūrēṇa hyavaraṁ karma buddhiyōgāddhanañjaya। buddhau śaraṇamanviccha kr̥paṇāḥ phalahētavaḥ ॥2-49॥
dūrēṇa = gap is much; hi = certainly; avaraṁ = inferior; karma = action; buddhiyōgāt = from buddhi yōga, i.e. the Yōga that is of the characteristics of knowledge as the solution; dhanañjaya = O Dhananjaya; buddhau = in such wisdom consciousness; śaraṇam = surrender; anviccha = seek after; kr̥paṇāḥ = narrow minded are those; phalahētavaḥ = who seek to cause outcomes; ]
O Dhananjya, certainly gap is significant between inferior action and the Buddhi-Yōga, the solution that is of the characteristic of knowledge. Strive to surrender yourself to such wisdom consciousness. Narrow minded are those who seek to cause outcomes.
Gīta Bhāshya 2.49
One must adopt the 'Buddhi-Yōga', the solution that is of the characteristic of knowledge.
itaśca yōgāya yujyasva ityāha– 'dūrēṇa' iti । budidhayōgāt jñānalakṣaṇāt upāyāt। dūrēṇa atīva। atō buddhau śaraṇaṁ jñānē sthitim। phalaṁ karmakr̥tau hētuḥ ēṣāṁ tē phalahētavaḥ ॥49॥
[itaśca = therefore; yōgāya = in Yōga; yujyasva = engage yourself; ityāha = thus it is said; 'dūrēṇa' iti = in 'dūrēṇa' verse; budidhayōgāt = 'budidhayōgāt' means; jñānalakṣaṇāt = the characteristics of knowledge; upāyāt = is the solution to be adopted; dūrēṇa atīva = 'durena' means gap is more; atō = therefore; buddhau śaraṇaṁ = 'buddhau śaraṇaṁ', i.e. surrender to wisdom means; jñānē sthitim = situated in intellect; phalaṁ = outcomes; karmakr̥tau = performance of action; hētuḥ = as the cause; ēṣāṁ tē = they are; phalahētavaḥ = 'phalahētavaḥ']
'Dūrēṇa' verse urges one to practice Yōga. 'Buddhi-yōga' - means one must adopt the Yōga that is of the characteristic of knowledge as the solution. 'durena' - means there is a significant gap (between 'budidhayōgā' and other activities with lower motive). Therefore, 'buddhau śaraṇaṁ', i.e. 'surrender to wisdom', which means situate yourself in intellect. Those who perform actions to cause the outcome are - 'phalahētavaḥ'.
Gīta Tātparya 2.49
'Buddhau Saraṇaṁ' - The knowledgeable continue to maintain a surrendered attitude to lord Vishnu always, even after liberation.
"बुद्धौ जातायामपि विष्णुमेव शरणमन्विच्छ। अज्ञानां ज्ञानिनां चैव मुक्तानां शरणं हरिः। तं ये स्वैक्येन मन्यन्ते सर्वभिन्नं गुणोच्छ्रयात्॥
"buddhau jātāyāmapi viṣṇumēva śaraṇamanviccha। ajñānāṁ jñānināṁ caiva muktānāṁ śaraṇaṁ hariḥ। taṁ yē svaikyēna manyantē sarvabhinnaṁ guṇōcchrayāt॥
[buddhau jātāyāmapi = even after obtaining the knowledge; viṣṇumēva śaraṇamanviccha = surrender to lord Vishnu only; ajñānāṁ = the ignorant; jñānināṁ = the wise; caiva = and; muktānāṁ = liberated; śaraṇaṁ hariḥ = surrender to lord Hari; taṁ yē = those who; svaikyēna = they are same as lord; manyantē = who think; sarvabhinnaṁ = who is different from every being;guṇōcchrayāt = being the hight of virtue;]
kr̥paṇāstē tamasyandhē nipatanti na saṁśayaḥ। na tēṣāmutthitiḥ kvāpi nityātiśayaduḥkhinām। guṇabhēdavidāṁ viṣṇōḥ bhēdhābhēdavidāmapi। dēhakarmādiṣu tathā prādurbhāvādikēpi vā॥
[kr̥paṇāstē = Wretched ones; tamasyandhē = to the darkest hell; nipatanti = fall down; na saṁśayaḥ = there is no doubt; na tēṣāmutthitiḥ = there is no liberation for them; kvāpi = at any point in time;nityātiśayaduḥkhinām = they will be in eternal misery; guṇabhēdavidāṁ = those who know the differences in the qualities; viṣṇōḥ bhēdhābhēdavidāmapi = even, will know the differences with lord Vishnu; dēhakarmādiṣu tathā prādurbhāvādikēpi vā = in terms of His body, actions, appearances, and other aspects;]
svōdriktānāṁ tadīyānāṁ nindāṁ kurvanti yēpi ca। sarvēṣāmapi caitēṣāṁ gatirēṣā na saṁśayaḥ॥"
[svōdriktānāṁ = who are self driven; tadīyānāṁ = the followers; nindāṁ kurvanti = those who condemn; yēpi ca = as well;। sarvēṣāmapi = this is always; caitēṣāṁ = such people; gatirēṣā = end result is this only; na saṁśayaḥ = without doubt;]
"Even after obtaining the knowledge, they surrender to lord Vishnu only. The ignorant, the wise, and even the liberated surrender to lord Hari only. Those who think they are the same as the lord, who is different from every being because of His highest virtue, such wretched ones fall down to the darkest hell, there is no doubt. There is no liberation for them at any point in time, as they will be in eternal misery. Those who know the differences in the qualities will well know the differences with lord Vishnu, in terms of His body, actions, appearances, and other aspects. Those who are enraged in condemning His followers reach the same result. The end result for such people is always, everywhere, the same, without a doubt."
