Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya
B.G 3.09
yajñārthāt karmaṇōnyatra lōkōyaṁ karmabandhanaḥ। tadarthaṁ karma kauntēya muktasaṅgaḥ samācara ॥9॥
Actions must be performed as a sacrifice to worship the Lord. Otherwise, actions performed for the wordly sake lead to bondage. So, practice actions without attachment, with equanimity, for His sake.
Gīta Bhāshya 3.09
'Yajna' - action performed for the sake of lord Vishnu. Action performed for the sake of lord Vishnu, with 'muktasaṅga', i.e. free from attachment, does not lead to bondage.
"karmaṇā badhyatē jantuḥ"
"A being is bound by actions."
[iti karma bandhakaṁ smr̥taṁ ityata āha - yajñārthāt iti। karma bandhanaṁ yasya lōkasya saḥ karmabandhanaḥ। yajñō viṣṇuḥ । yajñārthaṁ saṅgarahitaṁ karma na bandhakam ityarthaḥ। 'muktasaṅga' iti viśēṣaṇāt।]
Such testimonials attribute bondage to action. Hence, it is said in the verse - 'yajñārthāt' i.e. 'for the sake of Yajna'.
'Bondage due to action' is for the one who performs an action for the sake of this world. 'Yajna' means lord Vishnu. "The action performed for the sake of Yajna,(i.e lord Vishnu), without attachment (to the wordly affair) will not cause bondage" - is the meaning. Hence, the adjective 'muktasaṅga', i.e. 'free from attachment', is specially used.
"kāmān yaḥ kāmayatē"
iti śrutēśca।
"One who desires material desires"
-is also the Vēdic testimonial.
"aniṣṭamiṣṭam" iti vakṣyamāṇatvācca। "ētānyapi tu karmāṇi" iti ca।
The verse 18.12 (aniṣṭamiṣṭam) states the same. It is also reiterated in 18.6 (ētānyapi tu karmāṇi) verse.
"tasmānnēṣṭiyājukaḥ syāt"
iti ca।
"Therefore, one should not give up one's duties or responsibilities willingly."
-is also the testemonial (from Brihadaranyaka.3.15).
viśēṣavacanatvē samēpi viśēṣaṇaṁ pariśiṣyatē ॥9॥
In the case of special equal statements, the one with the adjective qualifier (i.e. 'muktasaṅga', 'free from attachment') persists.
