सञ्जय उवाच
sañjaya uvāca
[सञ्जयः (sañjayaḥ) - Sanjaya; उवाच (uvāca) - said;]
Sanjaya said:
एवमुक्त्वार्जुनः सङ्ख्ये रथोपस्थ उपाविशत्। विसृज्य सशरं चापं शोकसंविग्नमानसः ॥१-४७॥
evam uktvā arjunaḥ saṅkhye rathopastha upāviśat। visṛjya saśaraṃ cāpaṃ śokasaṃvignamānasaḥ ॥1-47॥
[एवम् (evam) - thus; उक्त्वा (uktvā) - having spoken; अर्जुनः (arjunaḥ) - Arjuna; सङ्ख्ये (saṅkhye) - in the battlefield; रथोपस्थ (rathopastha) - on the chariot seat; उपाविशत् (upāviśat) - sat down; विसृज्य (visṛjya) - casting aside; सशरम् (saśaram) - with arrows; चापम् (cāpam) - bow; शोकसंविग्नमानसः (śokasaṃvignamānasaḥ) - with a mind distressed by sorrow;]
Arjuna, overwhelmed with sorrow, sat down on the chariot seat in the battlefield, having cast aside his bow and arrows, after speaking thus.
॥ओं तत्सदिति श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतासूपनिषत्सु ब्रह्मविद्यायां योगशास्त्रे श्रीकृष्णार्जुनसंवादे अर्जुनविषादयोगो नाम प्रथमोऽध्यायः ॥
॥oṃ tatsaditi śrīmadbhagavadgītāsūpaniṣatsu brahmavidyāyāṃ yogaśāstre śrīkṛṣṇārjunasaṃvāde arjunaviṣādayogo nāma prathamo'dhyāyaḥ॥
[ओं (oṃ) - Om; तत् (tat) - that; सत् (sat) - truth; इति (iti) - thus ends; श्रीमद्भगवद्गीतासूपनिषत्सु (śrīmadbhagavadgītāsūpaniṣatsu) - in the holy Bhagavad Gita Upanishads; ब्रह्मविद्यायां (brahmavidyāyāṃ) - in the science of Brahman; योगशास्त्रे (yogaśāstre) - in the scripture of Yoga; श्रीकृष्णार्जुनसंवादे (śrīkṛṣṇārjunasaṃvāde) - in the dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna; अर्जुनविषादयोगः (arjunaviṣādayogaḥ) - Arjuna's despondency yoga; नाम (nāma) - named; प्रथमः (prathamaḥ) - first; अध्यायः (adhyāyaḥ) - chapter;]
"Om, that is truth," thus ends the first chapter named Arjuna's Despondency Yoga in the holy Bhagavad Gita Upanishads, which is a discourse on the science of Brahman and the scripture of Yoga, presented as a dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna.
