B.G 2.60

यततो ह्यपि कौन्तेय पुरुषस्य विपश्चितः। इंद्रियाणि प्रमाथीनि हरन्ति प्रसभं मनः ॥६०॥

yatato hy api kaunteya puruṣasya vipaścitaḥ। indriyāṇi pramāthīni haranti prasabhaṃ manaḥ ॥60॥

[यततः (yatataḥ) - of one who strives; हि (hi) - indeed; अपि (api) - even; कौन्तेय (kaunteya) - O son of Kunti; पुरुषस्य (puruṣasya) - of the man; विपश्चितः (vipaścitaḥ) - of the wise; इंद्रियाणि (indriyāṇi) - the senses; प्रमाथीनि (pramāthīni) - turbulent; हरन्ति (haranti) - carry away; प्रसभम् (prasabham) - forcibly; मनः (manaḥ) - the mind;]

(O Kaunteya, even a wise person who strives can have his mind carried away by the turbulent senses.)

O Arjuna, certainly, in-spite of trying, the senses that are harmful for one's character carry away the mind forcefully, even of the person with discriminatory knowledge.

Gīta Bhāshya 2.60

Person indicated in this verse is the one with ordinary knowledge, not transcendental. 'pramāthīni' - harmful to the character of the person.

अपरोक्षज्ञानरहितज्ञानिनोपि, साधारणयत्नवतोपि मनो हरन्ति इद्रियाणि। पुरुषस्य शरीराभिमानिनः को दोषस्ततः?

aparokṣajñānarahitajñāninopi, sādhāraṇayatnavatopi mano haranti idriyāṇi. puruṣasya śarīrābhimāninaḥ ko doṣastataḥ?

[अपरोक्ष-ज्ञान-रहित-ज्ञानिनः-अपि (aparokṣa-jñāna-rahita-jñāninaḥ-api) - even those who are knowers lacking direct knowledge; साधारण-यत्न-वतः-अपि (sādhāraṇa-yatna-vataḥ-api) - even those who possess ordinary effort; मनो (mano) - the mind; हरन्ति (haranti) - are carried away; इन्द्रियाणि (indriyāṇi) - by the senses; पुरुषस्य (puruṣasya) - of a person; शरीर-अभिमानिनः (śarīra-abhimāninaḥ) - who is attached to the body; कः (kaḥ) - what; दोषः (doṣaḥ) - fault; ततः (tataḥ) - from that;]

(Even those who lack direct realization and only have ordinary effort have their minds carried away by the senses. So, what fault is there if a person is attached to the body?)

Even the mind of the materially knowledgeable without transcendental knowledge, who is engaged in normal endeavours, is carried away by senses. What fault is there in those engrossed in seeking pleasure for the physical body.

प्रमाथीनि प्रमथनशीलानि पुरुषस्य ॥६०॥

pramāthīni pramathanaśīlāni puruṣasya ॥60॥

[प्रमाथीनि (pramāthīni) - agitating; प्रमथनशीलानि (pramathanaśīlāni) - of a destructive nature; पुरुषस्य (puruṣasya) - of a person;]

(They are agitating and destructive for a person.)

'pramāthīni' means those which endanger the character of the person.
