Shat.Upa 05.03

तदैतौ श्लोकौ भवतः॥

tadaitau ślokau bhavataḥ॥

[तत् (tat) - that; एतौ (etau) - these two; श्लोकौ (ślokau) - verses; भवतः (bhavataḥ) - of the Lord;]

These two are the verses of the Lord:

"तिस्रो मात्रा मृत्युमत्यः प्रयुक्ता अन्योन्यसक्ता अनविप्रयुक्ताः। क्रियासु बाह्याभ्यन्तरमध्यमासु सम्यक् प्रयुक्तासु न कम्पतेज्ञः॥"

"ऋग्भिरेतं यजुर्भिरन्तरिक्षं सामभिर्यत्तत् कवयो वेदयन्ते। तमोङ्कारेणैवायनेनान्वेति विद्वान् यत्तच्छान्तमजरममृतमभयं परात्परं च॥"

"tisro mātrā mṛtyumatyaḥ prayuktā anyonyasaktā anaviprayuktāḥ। kriyāsu bāhyābhyantaramadhyamāsu samyak prayuktāsu na kampatejñaḥ॥"

"ṛgbhiretaṃ yajurbhirantarikṣaṃ sāmabhir yattat kavayo vedayante। tamoṅkāreṇaivāyanenānveti vidvān yattacchāntamajaramamṛtamabhayaṃ parātparaṃ ca॥"

[तिस्रः (tisraḥ) - three; मात्राः (mātrāḥ) - measures; मृत्युमत्यः (mṛtyumatyaḥ) - mortal; प्रयुक्ताः (prayuktāḥ) - applied; अन्योन्यसक्ताः (anyonyasaktāḥ) - interconnected / hankering to other-other; अनविप्रयुक्ताः (anaviprayuktāḥ) - not disconnected / those who are without specially joined or not joined; क्रियासु (kriyāsu) - in actions; बाह्य (bāhya) - external; अभ्यन्तर (abhyantara) - internal; मध्यमासु (madhyamāsu) - in the middle; सम्यक् (samyak) - properly; प्रयुक्तासु (prayuktāsu) - applied; न (na) - not; कम्पते (kampate) - shakes; ज्ञः (jñaḥ) - the wise;]

[ऋग्भिः (ṛgbhiḥ) - by the Rig Veda; एतं (etaṃ) - this, i.e current world of earth; यजुर्भिः (yajurbhiḥ) - by the Yajur Veda; अन्तरिक्षं (antarikṣaṃ) - the intermediate space; सामभिः (sāmabhiḥ) - by the Sama Veda; यत् (yat) - which; तत् (tat) - that, i.e. heaven; कवयः (kavayaḥ) - the wise; वेदयन्ते (vedayante) - know; तत् (tat) - that; ओङ्कार (oṅkāra) - Om; एण (eṇa) - by; एव (eva) - only; आयनेन (āyanena) - by the path; अन्वेति (anveti) - follows; विद्वान् (vidvān) - the wise one; यत् (yat) - which; तत् (tat) - that; शान्तम् (śāntam) - peaceful; अजरम् (ajaram) - ageless; अमृतम् (amṛtam) - immortal; अभयम् (abhayam) - fearless; परात् (parāt) - beyond; परं (paraṃ) - the supreme; च (ca) - and;]

"Three mortal measures are applied to various desires and also to those without special connection. The wise are not shaken by these actions well applied on the external, the internal, and the middle (regions). Knowledgeable proclaim one attains - by the Rig Veda this (i.e. earthly world - 'bhu'), intermediate space (i.e. 'bhuva') by the Yajur Veda, and by the Sama Veda that (i.e. heavenly world 'sva'). The wise one follows that path of 'Om' alone, which is peaceful, ageless, immortal, fearless, beyond, and the supreme."
