Shaṭpraśnopaniṣat Bhāshya (षट्प्रश्नोपनिषद्भाष्यं)
Shat.Upa 04.03
प्राणाग्नय एवैतस्मिन् पुरे जाग्रति। गार्हपत्यो ह वा एषोऽपानो व्यानोऽन्वाहार्यपचनो यद्गार्हपत्यात् प्रणीयते। प्रणयनादाहवनीयः प्राणः। यदुच्छ्वासनिःश्वासावेतावाहुती समं नयति स समानो। मनो ह वाव यजमानः इष्टं फलमेवोदानः। स एनं यजमानमहरहर्ब्रह्म गमयति ॥३॥
prāṇāgnaya evaitasmin pure jāgrati। gārhapatyo ha vā eṣo'pāno vyāno'nvāhāryapacano yadgārhapatyāt praṇīyate। praṇayanādāhavanīyaḥ prāṇaḥ। yaducchvāsaniḥśvāsāvetāvāhutī samaṃ nayati sa samāno। mano ha vāva yajamānaḥ iṣṭaṃ phalamevodānaḥ। sa enaṃ yajamānamaharaharbrahma gamayati ॥3॥
[प्राणाग्नयः (prāṇāgnayaḥ) - fires of life-breath; एव (eva) - indeed; एतस्मिन् (etasmin) - in this; पुरे (pure) - city; जाग्रति (jāgrati) - are awake; गार्हपत्यः (gārhapatyaḥ) - household fire; ह (ha) - indeed; वा (vā) - or; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; अपानः (apānaḥ) - downward breath; व्यानः (vyānaḥ) - diffusive breath; अन्वाहार्यपचनः (anvāhāryapacanaḥ) - offering fire; यत् (yat) - which; गार्हपत्यात् (gārhapatyāt) - from the household fire; प्रणीयते (praṇīyate) - is led; प्रणयनात् (praṇayanāt) - from leading; आहवनीयः (āhavanīyaḥ) - sacrificial fire; प्राणः (prāṇaḥ) - life-breath; यत् (yat) - which; उच्छ्वास (ucchvāsa) - inhalation; निःश्वासौ (niḥśvāsau) - exhalation; एतौ (etau) - these two; आहुतौ (āhutau) - offerings; समम् (samam) - equally; नयति (nayati) - leads; सः (saḥ) - he; समानः (samānaḥ) - equalizing breath; मनः (manaḥ) - mind; ह (ha) - indeed; वाव (vāva) - truly; यजमानः (yajamānaḥ) - sacrificer; इष्टम् (iṣṭam) - desired; फलम् (phalam) - fruit; एव (eva) - indeed; उदानः (udānaḥ) - upward breath; सः (saḥ) - he; एनम् (enam) - this; यजमानम् (yajamānam) - sacrificer; अहरः (aharaḥ) - day by day; ब्रह्म (brahma) - to Brahman; गमयति (gamayati) - leads; ३ (3) - 3;]
In this body, the fires of 'prāṇa' i.e. life-breath are always active. The household fire represents the downward and diffusive breaths (apānaḥ), which are offerings led from the household fire. The sacrificial fire symbolizes the life-breath (prāṇa). The inhalation and exhalation are offerings that are equally led by the equalizing breath (samāna). Indeed, the mind is the sacrificer, and the upward breath (udānaḥ) is the desired fruit. Day by day, this leads the sacrificer to the ultimate reality, Brahman.

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
