Mundaka 6.01
स वेदैतत् परमं ब्रह्मधाम यत्र विश्वं निहितं भाति शुभ्रम्। उपासते पुरुषं ये ह्यकामास्ते शुक्रमेतदति वर्तन्ति धीराः ॥१॥
sa vedaitat paramaṁ brahmadhāma yatra viśvaṁ nihitaṁ bhāti śubhram। upāsate puruṣaṁ ye hyakāmāste śukrametadati vartanti dhīrāḥ ॥1॥
[स (sa) - he; वेद (veda) - knows; एतत् (etat) - this; परमं (paramaṁ) - supreme; ब्रह्मधाम (brahmadhāma) - abode of Brahman; यत्र (yatra) - where; विश्वं (viśvaṁ) - the universe; निहितं (nihitaṁ) - is placed; भाति (bhāti) - shines; शुभ्रम् (śubhram) - pure; उपासते (upāsate) - worship; पुरुषं (puruṣaṁ) - the Purusha; ये (ye) - who; हि (hi) - indeed; अकामाः (akāmāḥ) - desireless; ते (te) - they; शुक्रम् (śukram) - the bright one, i.e. the Lord; एतत् (etat) - this; अति (ati) - beyond; वर्तन्ति (vartanti) - go; धीराः (dhīrāḥ) - wise and courageous ones;]
He knows this supreme abode of Brahman, where the entire universe is placed and shines in its purity. Those wise and courageous ones who worship the Purusha without desires, they transcend and reach the bright one. Lord Vishnu is addressed as 'śukram' i.e. the bright one, substantiated through a testimonial from the Varaha Purana.
Bhāshya 6.01
The chief abode of Lord Viṣṇu is indeed declared as 'prāṇa' i.e. life-force. The Lord is continuously situated in the breath. The wise are always illuminated by the knowledge through the gateway of breath.
स आत्मज्ञार्चको ब्रह्मणो धाम प्राणं वेद। यत्र विश्वं पूर्णं ब्रह्म निहितम्।
sa ātmajñārcako brahmaṇo dhāma prāṇaṃ veda। yatra viśvaṃ pūrṇaṃ brahma nihitam।
[स (sa) - he; आत्मज्ञार्चकः (ātmajñārcakaḥ) - worshipper of knowledge of Ātmān; ब्रह्मणः (brahmaṇaḥ) - of Brahman; धाम (dhāma) - abode; प्राणम् (prāṇam) - life force; वेद (veda) - knows; यत्र (yatra) - where; विश्वम् (viśvam) - universe; पूर्णम् (pūrṇam) - complete; ब्रह्म (brahma) - Brahman; निहितम् (nihitam) - is situated;]
'sa' means He, who worships knowledge of Ātmān, who knows the abode of Brahman as the life-force, where the entire universe is situated in Brahman.
"प्रधानं धाम विष्णोस्तु प्राण एव प्रकीर्तितः। उपायैर्यो विजानीयात् प्राणस्थं परमेश्वरम्। तस्य प्राणे हरिर्नित्यमाविष्टो भवति ध्रुवम्॥
"pradhānaṁ dhāma viṣṇostu prāṇa eva prakīrtitaḥ। upāyairyo vijānīyāt prāṇasthaṁ parameśvaram। tasya prāṇe harirnityamāviṣṭo bhavati dhruvam॥
[प्रधानम् (pradhānam) - chief; धाम (dhāma) - abode; विष्णोः (viṣṇoḥ) - of Viṣṇu; तु (tu) - but; प्राणः (prāṇaḥ) - life-force; एव (eva) - indeed; प्रकीर्तितः (prakīrtitaḥ) - is declared; उपायैः (upāyaiḥ) - by means; यः (yaḥ) - who; विजानीयात् (vijānīyāt) - would know; प्राणस्थम् (prāṇastham) - situated in life; परमेश्वरम् (parameśvaram) - Supreme Lord; तस्य (tasya) - his; प्राणे (prāṇe) - in life-force; हरिः (hariḥ) - Hari; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; आविष्टः (āviṣṭaḥ) - entered; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; ध्रुवम् (dhruvam) - certainly;]
"The chief abode of Lord Viṣṇu is indeed declared as 'prāṇa' i.e. life-force. Whoever knows the Supreme Lord situated in the life-force, in his life-force Hari always certainly becomes entered.
नित्यं प्राणस्थितस्यैव विष्णोरावेश एव हि। प्राणद्वारेण यज्ज्ञान दीपनं ज्ञानिनः सदा॥
nityaṁ prāṇasthitasyaiva viṣṇorāveśa eva hi। prāṇadvāreṇa yajjñāna dīpanaṁ jñāninaḥ sadā॥
[नित्यं (nityaṁ) - eternally / continuously; प्राणस्थितस्य (prāṇasthitasya) - of the one residing in the breath; एव (eva) - indeed; विष्णोः (viṣṇoḥ) - of Viṣṇu; आवेशः (āveśaḥ) - possession; एव (eva) - indeed; हि (hi) - for; प्राणद्वारेण (prāṇadvāreṇa) - through the gateway of breath; यत् (yat) - which; ज्ञान (jñāna) - knowledge; दीपनं (dīpanaṁ) - illumination; ज्ञानिनः (jñāninaḥ) - of the wise; सदा (sadā) - always;]
Indeed, he is continuously situated in the breath, possessed with Lord Vishnu. The wise are always illuminated by the knowledge through the gateway of breath.
सन्निधानं यथा प्राप्ताः पिशाचाः पुरुषेष्वपि। तत्र स्थित्वाऽपि भुञ्जन्त आविशेयुः पुनश्च ते॥
sannidhānaṃ yathā prāptāḥ piśācāḥ puruṣeṣvapi। tatra sthitvā'pi bhuñjanta āviśeyuḥ punaśca te॥
[सन्निधानं (sannidhānaṃ) - presence; यथा (yathā) - as; प्राप्ताः (prāptāḥ) - arrived; पिशाचाः (piśācāḥ) - demons; पुरुषेषु (puruṣeṣu) - in men; अपि (api) - even; तत्र (tatra) - there; स्थित्वा (sthitvā) - having stayed; अपि (api) - even; भुञ्जन्त (bhuñjanta) - enjoying; आविशेयुः (āviśeyuḥ) - would enter; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; च (ca) - and; ते (te) - they;]
The demons, once they arrive in men, even after staying there and enjoying, would have to enter again.
मन्त्रादिभिस्तथा विष्णुः सदा प्राणस्थितोऽपि सन्। ज्ञानदीप्त्यादिकं कुर्याज्ज्ञानिनः पुनरेव तु॥"
mantrādibhis tathā viṣṇuḥ sadā prāṇasthito'pi san। jñānadīptyādikaṃ kuryāj jñāninaḥ punar eva tu॥"
[मन्त्रादिभिः (mantrādibhiḥ) - by mantras and others; तथा (tathā) - thus; विष्णुः (viṣṇuḥ) - Viṣṇu; सदा (sadā) - always; प्राणस्थितः (prāṇasthitaḥ) - situated in the life-breath; अपि (api) - even; सन् (san) - being; ज्ञानदीप्त्यादिकं (jñānadīptyādikaṃ) - knowledge and illumination, etc.; कुर्यात् (kuryāt) - may cause; ज्ञानिनः (jñāninaḥ) - of the wise; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; एव (eva) - indeed; तु (tu) - but;]
Thus, Lord Viṣṇu, though always present in the life-breath, through mantras and other means, may once again bestow knowledge and illumination upon the wise."

"एतच्छुक्रं प्रत्यन्यदतिवर्तन्ते। सर्वं तीर्त्वा हरिं शुक्रं प्रतिवृत्तिर्भवेत्पुनः। ज्ञानिनः सा हि मुक्तिः स्यात् तन्नैवात्येति कश्चन॥"
"etacchukraṃ pratyanyadativartante। sarvaṁ tīrtvā hariṁ śukraṁ prativṛttirbhavetpunaḥ। jñāninaḥ sā hi muktiḥ syāt tannaivātyeti kaścana॥"
[एतत् (etat) - this; शुक्रं (śukraṃ) - bright; प्रति (prati) - towards; अन्यत् (anyat) - other; अतिवर्तन्ते (ativartante) - transcend; सर्वम् (sarvam) - all; तीर्त्वा (tīrtvā) - having crossed; हरिम् (harim) - Hari; शुक्रम् (śukram) - pure; प्रतिवृत्तिः (prativṛttiḥ) - return; भवेत् (bhavet) - becomes; पुनः (punaḥ) - again; ज्ञानिनः (jñāninaḥ) - of the wise; सा (sā) - that; हि (hi) - indeed; मुक्तिः (muktiḥ) - liberation; स्यात् (syāt) - is; तत् (tat) - that; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - indeed; अत्येति (atyeti) - transcends; कश्चन (kaścana) - anyone;]
"This bright one surpasses the other. After crossing everything, one returns to the pure essence of Lord Hari. For the wise, this is indeed liberation; no one surpasses this state."
