Mundaka 2.01
तदेतत् सत्यम्।
tad etat satyam।
[तत् (tat) - that; एतत् (etat) - this; सत्यम् (satyam) - truth / reality;]
'This-That' - is the truth, the reality.
मन्त्रेषु कर्माणि कवयो यान्यपश्यन् तानि त्रेतायां बहुधा सन्ततानि। तान्याचरथ नियतं सत्यकामा एष वः पन्थाः सुकृतस्य लोके ॥१॥
mantreṣu karmāṇi kavayo yānyapaśyan tāni tretāyāṃ bahudhā santatāni। tānyācaratha niyataṃ satyakāmā eṣa vaḥ panthāḥ sukṛtasya loke ॥1॥
[मन्त्रेषु (mantreṣu) - in the mantras; कर्माणि (karmāṇi) - prescribed actions; कवयः (kavayaḥ) - sages; यानि (yāni) - which; अपश्यन् (apaśyan) - saw; तानि (tāni) - those; त्रेतायाम् (tretāyām) - in the Treta age; बहुधा (bahudhā) - in many ways; सन्ततानि (santatāni) - were extended; तानि (tāni) - those; आचरथ (ācaratha) - perform; नियतं (niyataṃ) - regularly; सत्यकामाः (satyakāmāḥ) - O seekers of truth; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; वः (vaḥ) - your; पन्थाः (panthāḥ) - path; सुकृतस्य (sukṛtasya) - of virtue; लोके (loke) - in the world;]
The sages saw the prescribed actions in the mantras, which were extended in many ways during the Treta age. O seekers of truth, perform these actions regularly; this is your path to the virtuous world.
Bhāshya 2.01
'This-that reality' mentioned is nothing but the Lord. Desiring Him, to serve His intentions - perform actions. Then, that itself is the higher knowledge. Otherwise, these sacrificial-forms are like unsteady rafts.
तदेतत्सत्यं भगवान्। तत्कामाः कर्माण्याचरथ। तदा सापि परविद्या। अन्यथा प्लवा ह्येते अदृढा यज्ञरूपाः॥
tadetatsatyaṁ bhagavān। tatkāmāḥ karmāṇyācaratha। tadā sāpi paravidyā। anyathā plavā hyete adṛḍhā yajñarūpāḥ॥

(That is the truth, O Lord. Therefore, perform actions with desires. Then, that is also higher knowledge. Otherwise, these sacrificial forms are indeed unsteady rafts.)
