Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 6.01
श्री भगवानुवाच
अनाश्रितः कर्मफलं कार्यं कर्म करोति यः। स संन्यासी च योगी च न निरग्निर्न चाक्रियः ॥१॥
śrī bhagavānuvāca
anāśritaḥ karmaphalaṁ kāryaṁ karma karoti yaḥ। sa saṁnyāsī ca yogī ca na niragnirna cākriyaḥ ॥1॥
[श्री भगवान् उवाच, अनाश्रितः कर्मफलं कार्यं कर्म करोति यः। स संन्यासी च योगी च न निः अग्निः न च अक्रियः॥
śrī = revered; bhagavān = the divine lord; uvāca = said;, anāśritaḥ = without taking shelter; karmaphalaṁ = fruits of action; kāryaṁ = the activity; karma = action; karoti = performs; yaḥ = who;। sa = they; saṁnyāsī = renunciant; ca = and; yogī = Yogi; ca = and / as well; na = not; niḥ = without; agniḥ = fire; na = not; ca = and; akriyaḥ = inactive;॥]
The revered Divine Lord said,
One who performs activities without seeking the fruits of the action is both a renunciant and a Yogi. Not he who is devoid of fire, as well as activities.
Gīta Bhāshya 6.01
An internal discipline to be practiced for knowledge is explained in this chapter. Practicing detachment is necessary along with Yoga. Intent is not to recommend detachment and inaction for monkhood.

Lord Hari is only Om!
ज्ञानान्तरङ्गं समाधियोगम् आह अनेन अध्यायेन। विवक्षितं संन्यासमाह योगेन सह - अनाश्रित इति। चतुर्थाश्रमिणोऽपि अग्निः क्रिया च उक्ता 'दैवमेव' इत्यादौ।
jñānāntaraṅgaṁ samādhiyogam āha anena adhyāyena। vivakṣitaṁ saṁnyāsamāha yogena saha - anāśrita iti। caturthāśramiṇo'pi agniḥ kriyā ca uktā 'daivameva' ityādau।
[ज्ञानान्तरङ्गं (jñānāntaraṅgaṁ) - internal discipline of knowledge; समाधियोगम् (samādhiyogam) - the yoga of equanimity; आह (āha) - said; अनेन (anena) - by this; अध्यायेन (adhyāyena) - chapter; विवक्षितं (vivakṣitaṁ) - intended; संन्यासम् (saṁnyāsam) - detachment; आह (āha) - said; योगेन (yogena) - by yoga; सह (saha) - along with; अनाश्रित (anāśrita) - devoid of shelter; इति (iti) - thus; चतुर्थाश्रमिणः (caturthāśramiṇaḥ) - of those in the fourth stage of life; अपि (api) - also; अग्निः (agniḥ) - fire of sacrifice; क्रिया (kriyā) - action; च (ca) - and; उक्ता (uktā) - mentioned; 'दैवमेव' (daivameva) - in the verse 'daivameva' 4.25; इत्यादौ (ityādau) - etc.]
In this chapter, the yoga of equanimity, which is an internal discipline to be practiced for knowledge, is expounded. The required detachment to be practiced along with Yoga is explained in 'anāśrita' verse. Even for those in the fourth stage of life, i.e. monkhood, the necessity of action and the concept of sacrificial fire have been explained in the verse 'daivameva' (Gita 4.25).
"अग्निर्ब्रह्म च तत्पूजा क्रिया न्यासाश्रमे स्मृता॥"
"agnirbrahma ca tatpūjā kriyā nyāsāśrame smr̥tā॥"
[अग्निर्ब्रह्म (agnirbrahma) - Fire is Brahman; च (ca) - and; तत्पूजा (tatpūjā) - its worship; क्रिया (kriyā) - action; न्यासाश्रमे (nyāsāśrame) - in the stage of renunciation; स्मृता (smṛtā) - is remembered.]
"For the renounced order, fire is the Brahman, and his worship is the recommended action."
इति च।
iti ca।
[इति (iti) - Thus; च (ca) - and.]
- stated thus by testimonials as well.
तस्मात् निरग्निः अक्रियः संन्यासी योगी च न भवत्येव ॥१॥
tasmāt niragniḥ akriyaḥ saṁnyāsī yogī ca na bhavatyeva ॥1॥
[तस्मात् (tasmāt) - Therefore; निरग्निः (niragniḥ) - without fire; अक्रियः (akriyaḥ) - inactive; संन्यासी (saṁnyāsī) - renunciant; योगी (yogī) - yogi; च (ca) - and; न (na) - not; भवति (bhavati) - becomes; एव (eva) - indeed.]
Therefore, without sacrificial fire and without duties, one is neither an ascetic nor a Yogi.
Gīta Tātparya 6.01
The method of meditation is explained exclusively in this chapter. The ascetics are not without sacrificial fire. Indeed, they are offering their own self as a sacrifice.
॥हरिः ॐ॥

[॥हरिः ॐ॥ (hariḥ oṁ) - Lord Hari is only Om]
Lord Hari oonly is Om!
ध्यानमत्रोच्यते।
dhyānamatrocyate।
[ध्यान (dhyāna) - meditation; मात्र (mātra) - only; उच्यते (ucyate) - is called.]
The method of meditation is explained exclusively.
"स ब्रह्मनिष्ठस्तु यतिर्महात्मा शारीरमग्निंच मुखे जुहोति।"
"sa brahmaniṣṭhastu yatirmahātmā śārīramagniṁca mukhe juhoti।"
[स (sa) - He; ब्रह्मनिष्ठः (brahmaniṣṭhaḥ) - established in Brahman; तु (tu) - indeed; यतिः (yatiḥ) - ascetic; महात्मा (mahātmā) - great-souled; शारीरम् (śārīram) - body; अग्निं (agnim) - fire; च (ca) - and; मुखे (mukhe) - in the mouth; जुहोति (juhoti) - sacrifices.]
"The great ascetic who is established in Brahman offers into the sacrificial fire of the body through his mouth." (For an ascetic, his body itself in the sacrificial fire, and food he eats through his mouth is like a sacrificial offering.)
इत्यादेः न यतेरपि अनग्नित्वम्। आत्मसमारोपणाच्च ॥१॥
ityādeḥ na yaterapi anagnitvam। ātmasamāropaṇācca ॥1॥
[इत्यादेः (ityādeḥ) - Thus; न (na) - not; यतेरपि (yaterapi) - of one who strives; अनग्नित्वम् (anagnitvam) - lack of fire; आत्मसमारोपणाच्च (ātmasamāropṇācca) - and from the offering of oneself.]
Such testimonials indicate that ascetics are not without sacrificial fire. Indeed, they are offering their own self as a sacrifice.

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
