B.G 17.10
yātayāmaṃ gatarasaṃ pūti paryuṣitaṃ ca yat। ucchiṣṭamapi cāmedhyaṃ bhojanaṃ tāmasapriyam ॥10॥
Food that is stale, tasteless, rotten, putrid, leftover, and impure is preferred by those in the mode of ignorance.
Gīta Tātparya 17.10
'yātayāmam', i.e. stale food, is that which is past three hours after cooking, or when food has lost its essence. Pure devotees of the Lord have the capacity to decipher the nature of food.
"yāmāntaritapākaṃ tu yātayāmamitīryate। kvacicca gatasāraṃ syānniyamyaṃ yātamasya yat॥"
"The food that is past three hours from the time of cooking is referred to as 'yātayāmam', i.e. stale. If the essence is lost, and not controlled properly, then also food is termed as stale."
iti ca।
- stated thus.
"pūrvaṃ svādu paścādanyathā jātaṃ gatarasam। śuddhabhāgavatānāṃ tu svabhāvāpekṣayaiva tu। svādutvādi vijānīyāt padārthānāṃ na cānyathā॥"
"Initially, something may seem sweet, but later it becomes tasteless. However, for the pure devotees of the Lord, by their very nature, they perceive the sweetness and other qualities of substances, not otherwise."
iti sūdaśāstre ॥10॥
- stated thus in the Sūdaśāstra, i.e. the science of cooking.
