आपूर्यमाणमचलप्रतिष्ठं समुद्रमापः प्रविशन्ति यद्वत्। तद्वत् कामा यं प्रविशन्ति सर्वे स शान्तिमाप्नोति न कामकामी ॥७०॥
āpūryamāṇam acala-pratiṣṭhaṃ samudram āpaḥ praviśanti yadvat। tadvat kāmā yaṃ praviśanti sarve sa śāntim āpnoti na kāma-kāmī ॥70॥
[आपूर्यमाणम् (āpūryamāṇam) - being filled; अचलप्रतिष्ठम् (acala-pratiṣṭham) - steadily established; समुद्रम् (samudram) - ocean; आपः (āpaḥ) - waters; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - enter; यद्वत् (yadvat) - just as; तद्वत् (tadvat) - so; कामाः (kāmāḥ) - desires; यम् (yam) - whom; प्रविशन्ति (praviśanti) - enter; सर्वे (sarve) - all; सः (saḥ) - he; शान्तिम् (śāntim) - peace; आप्नोति (āpnoti) - attains; न (na) - not; कामकामी (kāma-kāmī) - desire-desirer;]
(Just as rivers flow into the ever-full and steady ocean without causing disturbance, so too do all desires enter the person who is unmoved by desire; such a person attains peace, not the one who longs for desires.)
The sea is established unwaveringly even when water enters and fills from all sides, similarly he obtains serenity of mind in whom all desires enter, not he who goes after desires.
Gīta Bhāshya 2.70
They don't get excited about obtaining material pleasures, nor do they shrink because of their need, nor do they eagerly try to obtain them.
तेन विषयानुभवप्रकारमाह - आपूर्यमाणम् इति॥
tena viṣayānubhavaprakāram āha - āpūryamāṇam iti॥
[तेन (tena) - by him; विषय (viṣaya) - object; अनुभव (anubhava) - experience; प्रकारम् (prakāram) - manner; आह (āha) - said; आपूर्यमाणम् (āpūryamāṇam) - being filled; इति (iti) - thus;]
(He explained the manner of experiencing objects by saying—'being filled'.)

यो विषयैः आपूर्यमाणोपि अचलप्रतिष्ठो भवति - नोत्सेकं प्राप्नोति, न च प्रयत्नं करोति, न च अभावे शुष्यति। न हि समुद्रः सरित्प्रवेशाप्रवेशनिमित्तवृदि्धशोषौ बहुतरौ प्राप्नोति, प्रयत्नं वा करोति। स मुक्तिम् प्राप्नोति इत्यर्थः ॥७०॥
yo viṣayaiḥ āpūryamāṇo'pi acalapratiṣṭho bhavati - notsekaṃ prāpnoti, na ca prayatnaṃ karoti, na ca abhāve śuṣyati. na hi samudraḥ saritpraveśāpraveśanimittavṛddhiśoṣau bahutarau prāpnoti, prayatnaṃ vā karoti. sa muktim prāpnoti ityarthaḥ ॥70॥

(He who, like the ocean, remains unmoved and unperturbed whether objects of enjoyment come or go, neither exults nor strives nor is distressed by their absence—such a person attains liberation. This is the meaning.)
Even when material topics come in contact with them, they are established unwaveringly. On obtaining they are neither excited, nor shrink because of need, nor do they eagerly endeavour. Certainly the sea neither overflows with the inflow of rivers, nor shrinks when rivers dry up, nor does it endeavour. Such a person obtains liberation is the implied meaning.
Gīta Tātparya 2.70
It is not practical to abandon all desires. One must experience the material topics without crossing the boundaries of Dharma. 'shānti' - liberated state where sincerity towards lord Vishnu is firmed up.
"भुञ्जानोपि हि यः कामान् मर्यादां न तरेत् क्वचित्। समुद्रवत् धर्ममयीं नासौ कामी स मुच्यते। केति कुत्सितवाची स्यात् कुत्सितं मानमेव तु। कामो मोक्षविरोधी स्यान्न सर्वेच्छा विरोधिनी॥"
"bhuñjānopi hi yaḥ kāmān maryādāṃ na taret kvacit। samudravat dharmamayīṃ nāsau kāmī sa mucyate। keti kutsitavācī syāt kutsitaṃ mānameva tu। kāmo mokṣavirodhī syānna sarvecchā virodhinī॥"
[भुञ्जानः (bhuñjānaḥ) - enjoying; अपि (api) - even; हि (hi) - indeed; यः (yaḥ) - who; कामान् (kāmān) - desires; मर्यादाम् (maryādām) - limit; न (na) - not; तरेत् (taret) - transgress; क्वचित् (kvacit) - at any time; समुद्रवत् (samudravat) - like the ocean; धर्ममयीम् (dharmamayīm) - filled with dharma; न (na) - not; असौ (asau) - he; कामी (kāmī) - desirous; सः (saḥ) - he; मुच्यते (mucyate) - is freed; केति (keti) - who is called; कुत्सितवाची (kutsitavācī) - one who speaks ill; स्यात् (syāt) - may be; कुत्सितम् (kutsitam) - blameworthy; मानम् (mānam) - pride; एव (eva) - only; तु (tu) - but; कामः (kāmaḥ) - desire; मोक्षविरोधी (mokṣavirodhī) - opposed to liberation; स्यात् (syāt) - may be; न (na) - not; सर्वेच्छा (sarvecchā) - all desires; विरोधिनी (virodhinī) - opposed;]
(Even if a person enjoys desires, as long as he never crosses the limits, like the ocean filled with dharma, he is not considered desirous and is liberated. One who is called a speaker of ill may be blameworthy, but only pride is truly blameworthy. Desire may be opposed to liberation, but not every wish is an obstacle.)
"Even after experiencing the material topics, one who does not cross the boundaries of decency similar to the sea is said to be without lust. 'Ka' indicates interest in special topics. Desire in general is opposed to liberation, but not all desires."

(Life does not exist in the absence of all desires.)
It is not possible to live relinquishing all desires.
"शान्तिर्मोक्षो यतो ह्यत्र विष्णुनिष्ठा भवेत् धृवा॥"
"śāntirmokṣo yato hyatra viṣṇuniṣṭhā bhavet dhṛvā॥"
[शान्तिः (śāntiḥ) - peace; मोक्षः (mokṣaḥ) - liberation; यतः (yataḥ) - because; हि (hi) - indeed; अत्र (atra) - here; विष्णु (viṣṇu) - Viṣṇu; निष्ठा (niṣṭhā) - steadfastness; भवेत् (bhavet) - may be; धृवा (dhṛvā) - firm;]
(Peace and liberation are attained here because steadfastness in Viṣṇu is truly unwavering.)
"'shānti' means liberation, where sincerity towards lord Vishnu is firmed up."
