Dvādaśa Stotra (द्वादशस्तोत्रम्)
Chapter One - Vande Vandyaṃ (प्रथमाध्यायः - वन्दे वन्द्यं)
वन्दे वन्द्यं सदानन्दं वासुदेवं निरञ्जनम्। इन्दिरापतिमाद्यादिवरदेश वरप्रदम् ॥१॥
vandē vandyaṁ sadānandaṁ vāsudēvaṁ nirañjanam। indirāpatimādyādivaradēśa varapradam ॥1॥
[वन्दे (vandē) - I bow to; वन्द्यं (vandyaṁ) - worthy of worship; सदानन्दं (sadānandaṁ) - ever-blissful; वासुदेवं (vāsudēvaṁ) - Vāsudeva; निरञ्जनम् (nirañjanam) - stainless; इन्दिरापतिम् (indirāpatim) - lord of Indirā; आद्यादि-वरद + ईश (ādyādi-varada + īśa) - Lord granting boons to the foremost and others; वरप्रदम् (varapradam) - bestower of boons;]
I bow to the worshipful, ever-blissful, stainless Vāsudeva, lord of Indirā, the Lord who grants boons to the foremost and others, the bestower of boons. (1)

नमामि निखिलाधीशकिरीटाघृष्टपीठवत्। हृत्तमःशमनेर्काभं श्रीपतेः पादपङ्कजम् ॥२॥
namāmi nikhilādhīśakirīṭāghr̥ṣṭapīṭhavat। hr̥ttamaḥśamanērkābhaṁ śrīpatēḥ pādapaṅkajam ॥2॥
[नमामि (namāmi) - I bow to; निखिल-अधीश (nikhila-adhīśa) - all rulers; किरीट (kirīṭa) - crowns; आघृष्ट (āghr̥ṣṭa) - rubbed against; पीठवत् (pīṭhavat) - possessing a pedestal; हृत्-तमः (hr̥t-tamaḥ) - the heart's darkness; शमने (śamanē) - in dispelling; अर्क-आभम् (arka-ābham) - resembling the sun; श्रीपतेः (śrīpatēḥ) - Śrīpati's; पाद-पङ्कजम् (pāda-paṅkajam) - lotus foot;]
I bow to Śrīpati’s lotus foot, which possesses a pedestal rubbed by the crowns of all rulers and resembles the sun in dispelling the heart’s darkness. (2)

जाम्बूनदाम्बराधारं नितम्बं चिन्त्यमीशितुः। स्वर्णमञ्जीरसंवीतमारूढं जगदम्बया ॥३॥
jāmbūnadāmbarādhāraṁ nitambaṁ cintyamīśituḥ। svarṇamañjīrasaṁvītamārūḍhaṁ jagadambayā ॥3॥
[जाम्बूनद + अम्बर + आधारम् (jāmbūnada + ambara + ādhāram) - supporting a golden garment; नितम्बम् (nitambam) - hip; चिन्त्यम् (cintyam) - to be contemplated; ईशितुः (īśituḥ) - of the Lord; स्वर्ण + मञ्जीर + संवीतम् (svarṇa + mañjīra + saṁvītam) - encircled by a golden girdle; आरूढम् (ārūḍham) - occupied; जगत् + अम्बया (jagat + ambayā) - by the Mother of the World;]
One should contemplate the Lord’s hip, which supports his golden garment, is encircled by a golden girdle, and is occupied by the Mother of the World. (3)

उदरं चिन्त्यमीशस्य तनुत्वेप्यखलिम्भरम्। वलित्रयाङ्कितं नित्यमुपगूढं श्रियैकया ॥४॥
udaraṁ cintyamīśasya tanutvēpyakhalimbharam। valitrayāṅkitaṁ nityamupagūḍhaṁ śriyaikayā ॥4॥
[उदरम् (udaram) - abdomen; चिन्त्यम् (cintyam) - to be contemplated; ईशस्य (īśasya) - of the Lord; तनुत्वे + अपि (tanutvē + api) - though slender; अखलिम्भरम् (akhalimbharam) - bearing everything; वलि-त्रय-अङ्कितम् (vali-traya-aṅkitam) - marked by three folds; नित्यम् (nityam) - always; उपगूढम् (upagūḍham) - embraced; श्रिया + एकया (śriyā + ēkayā) - by Śrī alone;]
The Lord’s abdomen is to be contemplated: though slender, it bears everything, is marked by three folds, and is always embraced by Śrī alone. (4)

स्मरणीयमुरो विष्णोरिन्दिरावासमीशितुः। अनन्तमन्तवदिव भुजयोरन्तरं गतम् ॥५॥
smaraṇīyamurō viṣṇōrindirāvāsamīśituḥ। anantamantavadiva bhujayōrantaraṁ gatam ॥5॥
[स्मरणीयम् (smaraṇīyam) - should be contemplated; उरः (uraḥ) - chest; विष्णोः (viṣṇōḥ) - of Viṣṇu; इन्दिरा-आवासम् (indirā-āvāsam) - the abode of Indirā; ईशितुः (īśituḥ) - of the Lord; अनन्तम् (anantam) - boundless; अन्तवत् + इव (antavat + iva) - as though bounded; भुजयोः (bhujayōḥ) - of the two arms; अन्तरम् (antaram) - the space between; गतम् (gatam) - occupying;]
One should contemplate the chest of Viṣṇu, the Lord—the abode of Indirā—boundless though seemingly bounded, occupying the space between his two arms. (5)

शङ्खचक्रगदापद्मधराश्चिन्त्या हरेर्भुजाः। पीनवृत्ता जगद्रक्षाकेवलोद्योगिनोनिशम् ॥६॥
śaṅkhacakragadāpadmadharāścintyā harērbhujāḥ। pīnavr̥ttā jagadrakṣākēvalōdyōginōniśam ॥6॥
[शङ्ख + चक्र + गदा + पद्म + धराः (śaṅkha + cakra + gadā + padma + dharāḥ) - bearing the conch, discus, mace, and lotus; चिन्त्याः (cintyāḥ) - should be contemplated; हरेः (harēḥ) - of Hari; भुजाः (bhujāḥ) - arms; पीन + वृत्ताः (pīna + vr̥ttāḥ) - thick and rounded; जगत् + रक्षा + केवल + उद्योगिनः (jagat + rakṣā + kēvala + udyōginaḥ) - solely engaged in protecting the world; अनिशम् (aniśam) - constantly;]
Hari’s arms—bearing the conch, discus, mace, and lotus, thick and rounded, and solely engaged in protecting the world—should be contemplated constantly. (6)

सन्ततं चिन्तयेत् कण्ठं भास्वत्कौस्तुभभासकम्। वैकुण्ठस्याखिला वेदा उद्गीर्यन्तेनिशं यतः ॥७॥
santataṁ cintayēt kaṇṭhaṁ bhāsvatkaustubhabhāsakam। vaikuṇṭhasyākhilā vēdā udgīryantēniśaṁ yataḥ ॥7॥
[सन्ततं (santataṁ) - constantly; चिन्तयेत् (cintayēt) - one should contemplate; कण्ठं (kaṇṭhaṁ) - the neck; भास्वत्कौस्तुभभासकम् (bhāsvatkaustubhabhāsakam) - shining with the radiant Kaustubha; वैकुण्ठस्य + अखिला (vaikuṇṭhasya + akhilā) - of Vaikuṇṭha all; वेदा (vēdā) - the Vedas; उद्गीर्यन्ते + निशं (udgīryantē + niśaṁ) - are continually uttered; यतः (yataḥ) - from which;]
One should constantly contemplate Vaikuṇṭha’s neck, shining with the radiant Kaustubha, from which all the Vedas are continually uttered. (7)

स्मरेत यामिनीनाथसहस्रामितकान्तिमत्। भवतापापनोदीड्यं श्रीपतेर्मुखपङ्कजम् ॥८॥
smarēta yāminīnāthasahasrāmitakāntimat। bhavatāpāpanōdīḍyaṁ śrīpatērmukhapaṅkajam ॥8॥
[स्मरेत् (smarēt) - one should remember; यामिनी-नाथ-सहस्र (yāminī-nātha-sahasra) - a thousand moons; अमित-कान्तिमत् (amita-kāntimat) - possessing immeasurable radiance; भव-ताप-अपनोदि (bhava-tāpa-apanōdi) - removing the anguish of worldly existence; ईड्यम् (īḍyam) - worthy of praise; श्रीपतेः (śrīpatēḥ) - of Śrīpati; मुख-पङ्कजम् (mukha-paṅkajam) - lotus face;]
One should remember Śrīpati’s praiseworthy lotus face, radiant with the immeasurable splendor of a thousand moons and removing the anguish of worldly existence. (8)

पूर्णानन्दसुखोद्भासि मन्दस्मितमधीशितुः। गोविन्दस्य सदा चिन्त्यं नित्यानन्दपदप्रदम् ॥९॥
pūrṇānandasukhōdbhāsi mandasmitamadhīśituḥ। gōvindasya sadā cintyaṁ nityānandapadapradam ॥9॥
[पूर्णानन्द-सुख-उद्भासि (pūrṇānanda-sukha-udbhāsi) - radiant with the joy of perfect bliss; मन्दस्मितम् (mandasmitam) - gentle smile; अधीशितुः (adhīśituḥ) - of the Lord; गोविन्दस्य (gōvindasya) - of Govinda; सदा (sadā) - always; चिन्त्यम् (cintyam) - to be contemplated; नित्य-आनन्द-पद-प्रदम् (nitya-ānanda-pada-pradam) - bestowing the state of eternal bliss;]
One should always contemplate the gentle smile of the Lord Govinda, radiant with the joy of perfect bliss and bestowing the state of eternal bliss. (9)

स्मरामि भवसन्तापहानिदामृतसागरम्। पूर्णानन्दस्य रामस्य सानुरागावलोकनम् ॥१०॥
smarāmi bhavasantāpahānidāmr̥tasāgaram। pūrṇānandasya rāmasya sānurāgāvalōkanam ॥10॥
[स्मरामि (smarāmi) - I remember; भव + सन्ताप (bhava + santāpa) - anguish of worldly existence; हानि + द (hāni + da) - granting its cessation; अमृत + सागरम् (amr̥ta + sāgaram) - an ocean of nectar; पूर्ण + आनन्दस्य (pūrṇa + ānandasya) - who is perfect bliss; रामस्य (rāmasya) - of Rama; स + अनुराग + अवलोकनम् (sa + anurāga + avalōkanam) - loving glance;]
I remember the loving glance of Rama, who is perfect bliss—an ocean of nectar that brings an end to the anguish of worldly existence. (10)

ध्यायेदजस्रमीशस्य पद्मजादिप्रतीक्षितम्। भ्रूभङ्गं पारमेष्ठ्यादिपददायि विमुक्तिदम् ॥११॥
dhyāyēdajasramīśasya padmajādipratīkṣitam। bhrūbhaṅgaṁ pāramēṣṭhyādipadadāyi vimuktidam ॥11॥
[ध्यायेत् (dhyāyēt) - one should meditate on; अजस्रम् (ajasram) - constantly; ईशस्य (īśasya) - of the Lord; पद्मजादिप्रतीक्षितम् (padmajādipratīkṣitam) - awaited by Padmaja and others; भ्रूभङ्गम् (bhrūbhaṅgam) - movement of the brow; पारमेष्ठ्यादिपददायि (pāramēṣṭhyādipadadāyi) - bestowing offices such as that of Parameṣṭhin; विमुक्तिदम् (vimuktidam) - granting liberation;]
One should constantly meditate on the Lord’s movement of the brow, awaited by Padmaja and others, which bestows offices such as that of Parameṣṭhin and grants liberation. (11)

सन्ततं चिन्तयेनन्तमन्तकाले विशेषतः। नैवोदापुर्गृणन्तोन्तं यद्गुणानामजादयः ॥१२॥
santataṁ cintayēnantamantakālē viśēṣataḥ। naivōdāpurgr̥ṇantōntaṁ yadguṇānāmajādayaḥ ॥12॥
[सन्ततम् (santatam) - constantly; चिन्तयेत् (cintayēt) - one should contemplate; अनन्तम् (anantam) - the Infinite One; अन्तकाले (antakālē) - at the time of death; विशेषतः (viśēṣataḥ) - especially; न + एव (na + ēva) - never; उदापुः (udāpuḥ) - reached; गृणन्तः (gr̥ṇantaḥ) - while praising; अन्तम् (antam) - the end; यद्गुणानाम् (yadguṇānām) - of whose qualities; अजादयः (ajādayaḥ) - Brahmā and the others;]
One should constantly contemplate the Infinite One, especially at the time of death; even Brahmā and the others, while praising him, have never reached the end of his qualities. (12)

इति श्रीमदानन्दतीर्थभगवत्पादाचार्यविरचिते द्वादशस्तोत्रे प्रथमोध्यायः।
iti śrīmadānandatīrthabhagavatpādācāryaviracitē dvādaśastōtrē prathamōdhyāyaḥ।
[इति (iti) - thus; श्रीमत् (śrīmat) - venerable; आनन्दतीर्थ (ānandatīrtha) - Ānandatīrtha; भगवत्पादाचार्य (bhagavatpādācārya) - Bhagavatpādācārya; विरचिते (viracitē) - composed by; द्वादशस्तोत्रे (dvādaśastōtrē) - in the Dvādaśastotra; प्रथमः (prathamaḥ) - first; अध्यायः (adhyāyaḥ) - chapter;]
Thus ends the first chapter of the Dvādaśastotra, composed by the venerable Ānandatīrtha Bhagavatpādācārya.

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
