[अवान्तरं (avāntaraṃ) - intermediate; कारणं (kāraṇam) - cause; च (ca) - and; प्रकृतिः (prakṛtiḥ) - primordial nature; शून्यम् (śūnyam) - void; एव (eva) - indeed; च (ca) - and; इति (iti) - thus; आदि (ādi) - beginning; अन्यत्र (anyatra) - elsewhere; नियतैः (niyataiḥ) - by the fixed; अपि (api) - also; मुख्यतया (mukhyatayā) - primarily; उदितः (uditaḥ) - declared; शब्दैः (śabdaiḥ) - by words; अतः (ataḥ) - therefore; अनन्तगुणः (anantaguṇaḥ) - of infinite qualities; यत् (yat) - which; शब्दाः (śabdāḥ) - words; योगवृत्तयः (yogavṛttayaḥ) - engaged in Yoga;]
Though words 'avāntaraṃ' i.e. the interspace, 'kāraṇam' i.e. the cause, 'prakṛti' i.e. the primordial nature, and 'śūnyam' i.e. the void, are used elsewhere to explain other things, but primarily they depict qualities of the Lord with infinite qualities who is engaged in Yoga. (1-8)
॥इति प्रथमोऽध्यायः॥
॥iti prathamo'dhyāyaḥ॥
[इति (iti) - thus; प्रथमः (prathamaḥ) - first; अध्यायः (adhyāyaḥ) - chapter;]
Thus ends the first chapter.
