Yatipranavakalpa

अभ्रमं भङ्गरहितं अजदं विमलं सदा। आनन्दतीर्थं अतुलं भजे तापत्रयापाहं॥
abhramaṁ bhaṅgarahitaṁ ajadaṁ vimalaṁ sadā। ānandatīrthaṁ atulaṁ bhajē tāpatrayāpāhaṁ॥
Worship of Anandatheertha, who is always flawless, unobstructed, ardent, and pure, removes all afflictions.

    • Ya 01
      samiccarvājyakānhutvā samyakpuruṣasūktataḥ। sarvēṣāmabhayaṁ datvā viraktaḥ pravrajēddharim ॥1॥
      As described in scriptures, one should do the rituals with the help of 'sammit', 'chāru' and 'ājya' reciting Purusha sukta. Thinking of the wellbeing of all living beings, having complete detachment, one should take up the sainthood, which is very dear to the God.
    • Ya 02
      śrutvā bhāgavataṁ śuddhamācāryaṁ śaraṇaṁ vrajēt। adhīhi bhagavō brahmētyasmai brūyādguruḥ param ॥2॥
      He should listen to Srimad Bhagavatam from Guru. It mainly teaches detachment from the material world and the supremacy of the Lord. He should surrender to the Guru, requesting him to teach the science of Brahman. Guru should teach truth to a disciple who has come in search of Brahman and engage him in studies.
    • Ya 03
      uccārayēttriśastāraṁ dakṣiṇē śravaṇē tathā। r̥ṣicchandōdaivatāni brūyāttasya kramātsudhīḥ ॥3॥
      Guru should chant Pranava (Om) three times in the right ear of the disciple. Then teach him the sage, deity, and meter of the Mantra.

      antaryāmīti gāyatrī paramātmētyanukramāt। viśvaśca taijasaḥ prājñasturyaścākṣaradēvatāḥ ॥4॥
      The form of the God who is within our body and who sustains us is the sage of Pranava. Gayatri is the meter. Godhead himself is the presiding deity. Universe, luminescence, knowledge, and liberation – these four forms of the God are the deities for Aa, Uu, Ma, and Nada respectively, that form the four letters of Pranava.

      kr̥ṣṇō rāmō nr̥siṁhaśca varāhō viṣṇurēva ca। parañjyōtiḥ parambrahma vāsudēva iti kramāt ॥5॥
      ... also Krishna, Rama, Narasimha, Varaha; and also Vishnu, Paranjyoti, Parabrahma, and Vasudeva respectively...
    • Ya 06
      akārādēstathā śāntātiśāntāntasya dēvatāḥ। ēvamuktvā tu taddhyānaṁ brūyācchiṣyāya sadguruḥ ॥6॥
      From 'akara' to other ovels... represent the forms of the God from Shanta to Ati Shanta. In the said way teaching the significance of 'Pranava', Guru should teach the disciple method to meditate on the Lord who is revealed through 'Pranava'.

      aṣṭapatrē tu hr̥tpadmē madhyē sūryēnduvahnigam। pīṭhaṁ tatpadmamadhyasthaṁ nārāyaṇamanāmayam ॥7॥
      In the eight petal lotus heart of the body is located the solar system, lunar system, and the fire system. One should meditate on Nārāyaṇa who is at the center of these systems.

      udyadādityasaṅkāśaṁ tējasānupamaṁ sadā। sahasrēṇāpi sūryāṇāṁ sañjñānānandarūpiṇam ॥8॥
      He is far from all defects. He is golden colored like the rising sun; he is brighter than a thousand Suns; he is full of auspicious qualities and knowledge.
    • Ya 09
      atiraktatalaṁ bhāsvannakhavrātavibhūṣitam। vr̥ttajaṅghaṁ vr̥ttajānuṁ hastihastōrumīśvaram ॥9॥
      He is having lotus colored feet, his nails are glittering with shine, he is having beautiful round knee, thigh like that of an elephant trunk.
    • Ya 10
      mahākaṭitaṭābaddhakāñcīpītāmbarōjjvalam। sunimnanābhiṁ' trivaliṁ suvr̥ttōdarabandhanam ॥10॥
      He is wearing the yellow lower clothing ('Kanchi Peetambara'), he is having a deep navel and a beautiful three lines formed on the stomach.

      viśālavakṣasaṁ bhrājatkaustubhāmuktakandharam। vanamālādharaṁ hāravaijayantyādibhiryutam ॥11॥
      He is having a vast chest that is wearing Kaustuba beeds, garlands of Vanamala and Vaijayanti.
    • Ya 12
      pr̥thudīrghacaturbāhuṁ śaṅkhacakragadāmbujaiḥ। yuktamunnidrapadmākṣaṁ sphuranmakarakuṇḍalam ॥12॥
      He is having four shoulders holding conch, disk, mace, and lotus. He is having wide eyes like a just blossomed lotus. He is wearing glittering earrings.
    • Ya 13
      pūrṇacandrāyutōdriktakāntimanmukhapaṅkajam। subhruvaṁ sulalāṭāntaṁ kirīṭābaddhamūrdhajam ॥13॥
      His face is brighter than a thousand full moons, eyebrows are pleasing to the mind, and forehead is beautiful. He is wearing a crown over the head.
    • Ya 14
      niḥśēṣaduḥkhadamanaṁ nityānandaśucismitam। viśvādīṁścaiva kr̥ṣṇādīnēvaṁ bhūtānsanātanān ॥14॥
      One should meditate on such Narayana who is the remover of all miseries, who is always full of happiness, who is having that beautiful smile, and who is the sustainers of the entire universe.
    • Ya 15
      abhinnānēva satataṁ tasmādviṣṇōḥ parātmanaḥ। varābhayōdyatakarānnityānandaikarūpiṇaḥ ॥15॥
      One should meditate on the universe, luminescence, knowledge, and liberation, four forms, Krishna, Rama, and other forms of the God who is having qualities as described above. He is not different from the all-powerful supreme Lord Vishnu, who is the giver of boons and support.

      ēvamuktvā gururdhyānaṁ śapathaṁ kārayēttataḥ। na viṣṇuṁ vaiṣṇavāṁścaiva visr̥jēyamiti triśaḥ ॥16॥
      Having taught the method of meditation, the disciple should be made to take oath three times: "I will never leave all powerful and supreme Vishnu and his devotees; ...
    • Ya 17
      na cānyadēvatāsāmyaṁ tadaikyamathavā harēḥ। cintayēyaṁ mr̥tō vāpi na cāpyēkatvavādibhiḥ ॥17॥
      … I will never think about the equality or oneness between Brahma, other deities, and the Lord. Even after death, I will not aspire to become equal with God; ...
    • Ya 18
      samatvavādibhirvāhaṁ saṅgacchēyaṁ kadācana। tannindakaiśca tadbhaktanindakairvā mahāmunē ॥18॥
      ... I will never associate with those who tell the equality or oneness between soul and the God. Also, I shall sever ties with those who degrade the Lord and his devotees."

      ēvaṁ kr̥tē tu śapathē mastakē hastapaṅkajam। nidhāyōttīrya saṁsārātsukhī bhava harēḥ priyaḥ ॥19॥
      After taking the oath, keeping the hand on the disciple’s head, Guru should give the blessing: “Crossing this ocean of transmigration move towards divine, become dear to Lord Hari; ...
    • Ya 20
      sarvaduḥkhādibhirmuktō nityānandaikarūpakaḥ। samprāpya viṣṇusāmīpyaṁ tatrāpi haribhaktimān ॥20॥
      ... having overcome all the miseries, attaining the ever-blissful form of yours, having obtained closeness to lord Vishnu, there also continue to be His devotee; ...
    • Ya 21
      bhaktimāṁścānyadēvēṣu tāratamyaṁ ca saṁsmaran। sarvōtkarṣaṁ smaranviṣṇōrbhūyāścaiva sadā sukhī ॥21॥
      ... worship other deities, remembering their hierarchy. Understanding Lord Hari as the most superior among deities, remembering him be happy, all the time; ...
    • Ya 22
      na muktau viṣṇunaikyaṁ vā muktānāṁ sāmyamēva vā। smarēthā iti cōktvātha samayānanuśikṣayēt ॥22॥
      ... never think of oneness or equality of Lord Vishnu with other liberated even after liberation." - having advised so, impart the knowledge of secret Vēdānta teachings.
    • Ya 23
      nityaśaśca harēḥ pūjā japadhyānasamarpaṇam। kartavyaṁ tu tvayā vatsa japaśca trisahasrakaḥ ॥23॥
      Daily offer the worship, chanting, meditation, and other duties to Lord Hari. One should chant three thousand times.
    • Ya 24
      madhyamaḥ praṇavasyōktō yōvaraḥ sa sahasrakaḥ। trisahasrātparō yastu sa uttamajapaḥ smr̥taḥ ॥24॥
      Chanting pranava more than three thousand times is better. Chanting three thousand times is medium, and one thousand is the minimum.
    • Ya 25
      ātmānaṁ pratibimbatvē dhyāyan bimbaṁ janārdanam। dhyāyasva satataṁ vatsa saparyāṁ nityaśaḥ kuru ॥25॥
      Meditate on the reflected image of Lord Janardhana in the heart, thinking self as a reflection of the Lord. Meditate without break, continuously, on the similarities in the qualities.
    • Ya 26
      mānasairvātha puṣpairvā praṇavēna samāhitaḥ। anyāṁśca vaiṣṇavānmantrāñjapēthā bhaktipūrvakam ॥26॥
      Worship the Lord with mental flowers like non-violence, etc. having stationed equanimously in pranava. Also meditate on other 'Vaishnava mantras'.
    • Ya 27
      śr̥ṇuṣva vaiṣṇavaṁ śāstraṁ sadā vēdārthatatparaḥ। vēdānmantrānupaniṣatsahitānsarvadā śr̥ṇu ॥27॥
      Listen to the scriptures that inform about the supremacy of Lord Hari (vaishnava-shastra). Do a deep study of Upanishad and Vedas.
    • Ya 28
      itihāsapurāṇaṁ ca pañcarātraṁ tathaiva ca। tadarthān brahmasūtraiśca samyaṅnirṇīya tattvataḥ। viṣṇōḥ sarvōttamattvaṁ ca sarvadā pratipādaya ॥28॥
      Study the puranas and pancharatra and get a firm conviction of their knowledge by interpreting them with the help of brahmasutras. Spread the supremacy of Lord Hari everywhere.
      ॥ iti śrīmadānandatīrthabhagavatpādācāryaviracitaḥ yatipraṇavakalpaḥ samāptaḥ ॥

    बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
    सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
    "The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
