Tatva Vivēka

अभ्रमं भङ्गरहितं अजदं विमलं सदा। आनन्दतीर्थं अतुलं भजे तापत्रयापाहं॥
abhramaṁ bhaṅgarahitaṁ ajadaṁ vimalaṁ sadā। ānandatīrthaṁ atulaṁ bhajē tāpatrayāpāhaṁ॥
Worship of Anandatheertha, who is always flawless, unobstructed, ardent, and pure, removes all afflictions.

    svatantraṁ paratantraṁ ca pramēyaṁ dvividhaṁ matam। svatantrō bhagavān viṣṇuḥ nirdōṣākhalisadguṇaḥ ॥1॥
    The topics to be discussed are of two types: independent and dependent; such is the opinion. The independent is Godhead Vishnu, who is free of defects and full of auspicious attributes.

    dvividhaṁ paratantraṁ ca bhāvōbhāva itīritaḥ। pūrvāparasadātvēna trividhōbhāva iṣyatē ॥2॥
    Dependent truth is of two types: existent (bhāva) and non-existent (abhāva) or deficient. Non-existent can be divided into three: (i) deficiency for objects before its birth; (ii) deficiency of objects after its death; (iii) deficiency for objects that never exist.

    bhāvābhāvasvarūpatvānnānyōnyābhāvatā pr̥thak। cētanācētanaścēti bhāvaśca dvividhaḥ smr̥taḥ ॥3॥
    There are no other types of deficiency than those stated above. Existent is of two types: living and non-living.

    nityamuktaśca sr̥tiyuk paratantrōpi cētanaḥ। dvidhaiva śrīrnityamuktā sr̥tiyukca dvidhā mataḥ ॥4॥
    Dependent living entities can be divided into ever liberated and the ones touched by misery. Goddess Sri (Cit-prakrti) is the only ever liberated.

    muktōmukta iti hyatra brahmāntā uttarōttaram। muktāḥ śataguṇāḥ prōktāḥ ramā tēbhyōkhilairguṇaiḥ ॥5॥
    Other living entities are divided into liberated and non-liberated. Among the liberated the auspicious qualities vary several fold, all the way from human to lord Brahma. The Goddess Rama (Cit-prakrti) is many folds superior to all of them.

    nityaṁ bahuguṇōdriktā tatōnantaguṇō hariḥ। amuktāstrividhāstatra nīcamadhyōccabhēdataḥ ॥6॥
    Lord Hari always has several fold, infinitely more auspicious qualities. Non-liberated can be differentiated into three categories: lower, middle and superior.

    muktiyōgyāstatra cōccā nityāvartāstu madhyamāḥ। nīcā nityatamōyōgyā dvidhaivācētanaṁ matam ॥7॥
    The superior are eligible for liberation while those in of middle category rotate in the world forever. Those of lower category go into deepest ignorance. The non-living is of two types.

    nityānityatvabhēdēna dēśaḥ kālaḥ śrutistathā। bhūtēndriyaprāṇaguṇasūkṣmarūpaṁ ca nityakam ॥8॥
    (Non-living are) differentiated based on them being eternal and non-eternal. Space, time, Vēdas, earth, (five) elements, (eleven) senses, (five) prēnas, (Satva, Rajas and Tamas) qualities, (five) sensations are eternal non-living entities.

    ēṣāṁ vikārōnityaḥ syānnityā ēva hi cētanāḥ। guṇakriyājātipūrvā dharmā sarvēpi vastunaḥ ॥9॥
    (Non living) objects made up by the deformations of these eternal entities are destructible. All living entities are eternal. Natural order (dharma) of all objects is as governed by their respective constituent qualities, actions, and classes.

    rūpamēva dvidhaṁ tacca yāvadvastu ca khaṇḍitam। khaṇḍitē bhēda aikyaṁ ca yāvadvastu na bhēdavat ॥10॥
    Form of the objects are of two types. They are differentiated as those with steady form (yāvadvastu) and those with changing form (khaṇḍitam). The one with changing form has differences in union. The one with steady form has no differences within.

    khaṇḍitaṁ rūpamēvātra vikārōpi vikāriṇaḥ । kāryakāraṇōścaiva tathaiva guṇatadvatōḥ ॥11॥
    The form of the changing object is distorted because of distorted causes. Effect is the result of cause only, originating from their respective qualities.

    kriyākriyāvatōstadvat tathā jātiviśēṣayōḥ । viśiṣṭaśuddhayōścaiva tathaivāṁśāṁśinōrapi ॥12॥
    Action and inaction results from its class speciality and its individual uniqueness contained within the object.

    ya ētatparatantraṁ tu sarvamēva harēḥ sadā । vaśamityēva jānāti saṁsārāt mucyatē hi saḥ ॥13॥
    One who understands all these dependent entities is always under the control of Lord Hari, will get liberated from this world.
    ॥ iti śrīmadānandatīrthabhagavatpādācāryaviracitaḥ tattvavivēkaḥ ॥

    सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
    "The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
