Tantrasāra Saṅgraha

अभ्रमं भङ्गरहितं अजदं विमलं सदा। आनन्दतीर्थं अतुलं भजे तापत्रयापाहं॥
abhramaṁ bhaṅgarahitaṁ ajadaṁ vimalaṁ sadā। ānandatīrthaṁ atulaṁ bhajē tāpatrayāpāhaṁ॥
Worship of Anandatheertha, who is always flawless, unobstructed, ardent, and pure, removes all afflictions.

    • Tantra Sāra 1.001
      jayatyabjabhaveśendravanditaḥ kamalāpatiḥ। anantavibhavānandaśakti jñānādisadguṇaḥ ॥1॥
      May the Lord, husband of goddess Kamala, be victorious. He is adored by Brahma, Rudra, and Indra. He is infinitely wealthy, powerful, and blissful with knowledge and auspicious qualities.

      vidhiṁ vidhāya sargādau tēna pr̥ṣṭōbjalōcanaḥ। prāha dēvō ramōtsaṅgavalisatpādapallavaḥ ॥2॥
      At the dawn of creation, the lotus eyed Lord instructed the method. The lord whose lotus feet sparkled, sheltered in the lap of the goddess Rama, spoke these words.

      ahamēkōkhaliguṇō vācakaḥ praṇavō mama। akārādyatiśāntāntaḥ sōSyamaṣṭākṣarō mataḥ ॥3॥
      I am the only one who is complete with all auspicious qualities. I am denoted by syllable praṇava i.e. Ōm. It consists of eight letters starting with A, and ending with Ati-shanta (i.e. Ā, Ū, M, Nāda = sound, Bindu = pause, Ghosha = roar, Shanta = calm, Ati-Shanta = intense calmness)

      sa viśvataijasaprājñaturīyātmāntarātmanām। paramātmajñānātmayujāṁ madrūpāṇāṁ ca vācakaḥ ॥4॥
      They convey correspondingly the following forms of mine: Vishwa i.e. universe, taijasa i.e. vigour, prājna i.e. wisdom, turiya i.e. 4th state that is beyond awake, dream and sleep, ātma i.e. the essence, antarātma i.e. inner essence, paramatma i.e. supreme soul, and jnānātma i.e. root of intelligence.

      tadrūpabhēdāḥ pañcāśanmūrtayō mama cāparāḥ। pañcāśadvarṇavācyāstā varṇāstārārṇabhēditāḥ ॥5॥
      Further variations of my forms are fifty. They are conveyed by fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabets. They originate from the eight sounds that correspond to Pranava.

      dviraṣṭapañcakacatuḥpañcētyēvāṣṭavargagāḥ। aja ānanda indrēśāvugra ūrja r̥tambaraḥ ॥6॥
      The eight groups of letters originating from the eight sounds of Pranava are: (1)Sixteen ovals, 'Ka' to 'Pa', 5 groups of 5 letters each non-ovals(2,3,4,5,6), (7)non-grouped four non-ovals from 'Ya' to 'Va', (8) 'Sha' to 'La' - five letters are grouped together. Each letter conveys the specific form of God as follows: 'A' for Ajaha, 'Ā' for Ānandaha, 'I' for Indraha, 'Ī' for Īshaha, 'U' for Ugraha, 'Ū' for Ūrjaha, and 'r̥' for Rutambaraha;

      dr̥r̥̄ghalr̥śau lr̥̄jiraikatmaira ōjōbhr̥daurasaḥ। antōrdhagarbhaḥ kapaliḥ khapatirgaruḍāsanaḥ ॥7॥
      r̥̄ - for Rughaha, lr̥ - for Lrushah, lru for Lrujihi, ē - for Ēkātmā, ai - for Airaha, ō - for Ōjabhrut, au - for Aurasaha, aṁ - for Antaha, aḥ - for Ardhagarbhaha, ka - for Kapilaha, kha - for Khapatihi, and ga - for Garudasanaha.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.008
      gharmō ṅasārascārvāṅgaśchandōgamyō janārdanaḥ। jhaṭitārirñamaṣṭaṅkī ṭhalakō ḍalakō ḍharī ॥8॥
      gha - for Gharmaha, ṅa - for ṅasaraha, ca - for Caarvangaha, cha - for Chandogmyaha, ja - for Janārdhanaha, jha - for Jhatitarihi, ña - for ñamaha, ṭa - for ṭankī, ṭha - for ṭhalakaha, ḍa - for ḍarakaha, and ḍha - for ḍharī.

      ṇātmā tārasthamō daṇḍī dhanvī namyaḥ paraḥ phalī। balī bhagō manuryajñō rāmō lakṣmīpatirvaraḥ ॥9॥
      ṇa - for ṇātmā, ta - for Tāra, da - for Dhabah, da - for Daṇḍī, dha - for Dhanvī, na - for Namyah, pa - for Parah, pha - for Phalī, ba - for Balī, bha - for Bhagah, ma - for Manuh, ya - for Yajnah, ra - for Rāmah, la - for Lakshmipatih, and va - for Varah.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.010
      śāntasaṁvit ṣaḍguṇaśca sārātmā haṁsalālukau। pañcāśanmūrtayastvētā mamākārādalikṣakāḥ ॥10॥
      sha - for Shāntasaṁvit, ṣha - for Shadgunah, sa - for Sārātmā, ha - for Hansah, and la - for Lālukah. Thus are the fifty forms of the lord deciphered from the alphabets.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.011
      nārāyaṇāṣṭākṣaraśca tārāṣṭākṣarabhēdavān। ādyaistāracaturvaṇairbhinnā vyāhr̥tayaḥ kramāt ॥11॥
      The Nārāyana eight letter mantra is formed from the eight letters of Pranava (Ōm) respectively. The first four letters of Pranava are formed from the Vyahrtis in the respective order.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.012
      aniruddhādikāstāsāṁ dēvatā vyutkramēṇa vā। tāścaturmūrtayastvēva dvādaśārṇapadōditāḥ ॥12॥
      Lord Aniruddha and other forms (i.e., Pradyumna, Sankarshana, and Vāsudeva) manifest in order (from the four Vyahritis). These four forms of the lord only are indicated by the letters of the twelve letter mantra.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.013
      nārāyaṇāṣṭākṣarācca vyāhr̥tibhyastathaiva ca। vibhēdō dvādaśārṇānāṁ kēśavādyāśca dēvatāḥ ॥13॥
      From the eight letter Narayana mantra and the four Vyahrtis, in order, manifests the twelve letter mantra. From it comes the twelve forms of the lord such as Kēshava and others.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.014
      nārāyaṇāṣṭākṣarācca vyāhr̥titriguṇātpunaḥ। vēdamātā tu gāyatrī dviguṇā dvādaśākṣarāt ॥14॥
      By recitation of the Nārāyana eight syllable mantra three times manifests the mother of Vēdas Gāyatrī mantra. It is also obtained by reciting twice the twelve letter mantra.

      caturviśanmūrtayōSsyāḥ kathitā varṇadēvatāḥ। tadbhēdaḥ pauruṣaṁ sūktaṁ vēdāḥ puruṣasūktagāḥ ॥15॥
      The twenty four forms of the lord manifest from the 24 syllables(of Gayatri). From it manifests Purusha Sūkta. Then Vēdas manifest from Purusha Sūkta.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.016
      vaidikāḥ sarvaśabdāśca tasmāt sarvābhidhō hyaham। pañcāśadvarṇabhinnāśca sarvaśabdā atōpi ca ॥16॥
      All the Vedic sounds and all the names convey Me only. The fifty alphabets produce all the diverse words. Therefore, I am only conveyed by all the words.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.017
      r̥ṣiśca dēvataikōhaṁ tārādīnāṁ viśēṣataḥ। chandō madīyā gāyatrī tārāṣṭākṣarayōrmatā ॥17॥
      Specially for Pranava and other mantras, I am the presiding deity and sage. It is my decided view that the meter for Pranava and eight letter mantra is Gāyatri.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.018 and 1.019
      udyad bhāsvat samābhāsaḥ cidānandaikadēhavān। cakraśaṅkhagadāpadmadharō dhyēyōShamīśvaraḥ ॥18॥
      [lakṣmīdharābhyāmāśliṣṭaḥ svamūrtigaṇamadhyagaḥ। brahmavāyuśivāhīśavipaiḥ śakrādikairapi। sēvyamānōdhikaṁ bhaktyā nityaniḥśēṣaśaktimān ॥19॥]
      Meditate on me as the lord with a radiant form of the rising sun, shining blissfully, with a body made of intellect and joy, and holding the disk, conch, mace, and lotus.
      The eternally and infinitely powerful lord is embraced by goddess Lakshmi and goddess Earth, and is the essence of all forms. Brahma, Vāyu, Rudra, Shesha, Garuda, Indra and other deities serve him with ever-increasing devotion.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.020
      mūrtayōSṣṭāvapi dhyēyāścakraśaṅkhavarābhayaiḥ। yuktāḥ pradīpavarṇāśca sarvābharaṇabhūṣitāḥ ॥20॥
      Meditate on the eight forms of the lord, who are adorned with all the colourful ornaments that glitter like lamps and equipped with disk, conch, bestower, and protector marks.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.021
      tādr̥grūpāśca pañcāśajjñānamudrābhayōdyatāḥ। ṭaṅkī dhanvī ca daṇḍī ca tattadyuktastu vāmataḥ ॥21॥
      The fifty forms of the lord are holding the wisdom and the bestower symbols. Tanki, Dhanvi and Dandi forms hold in their left the hammer, the bow, and the staff, (instead of bestower symbol) respectively.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.022 and 1.023
      vāsudēvādikāḥ śuklarakta pītāsitōjjvalāḥ। śaṅkhacakragadābjētaḥ prathamō musalī halī ॥22॥
      saśaṅkhacakrastvaparaḥ tr̥tīyaḥ śārṅgabāṇavān। saśaṅkhacakrasturyastu cakraśaṅkhāsicarmavān ॥23॥
      Vasudeva and other forms (Sankarshana, Pradyumna, and Aniruddha) are respectively shining white, red, yellow, and black. The first, Vasudeva, is holding conch, disk, mace, and lotus. (The second, Sankarshana) is armed with the club, plough, conch, and mace. The third (Pradyumna) has the bow, arrow, conch, and disk, and the last, (Aniruddha) holds the disk, conch, sword, and skin.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.024
      kēśavō madhusūdanaḥ saṅkarṣaṇadāmōdarau। savāsudēvapradyumnāḥ dakṣōccakaraśaṅkhinaḥ ॥24॥
      The forms of lord Kēshava, lord Madhusūdhana, lord Sankarshana, lord Damōdara, lord Vāsudeva, and lord Pradyumna carry conch in their right hand.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.025
      viṣṇumādhavāniruddha puuruṣōttamādhōkṣajāḥ। janārdanaśca vāmōccakarasthitadarā matāḥ ॥25॥
      Forms of lord Vishnu, lord Mādhava, lord Aniruddha, lord Purushōttama, lord Adhōkshaja, and lord Janārdhana are holding a conch in their upper left hand.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.026
      gōvindaśca trivikramaḥ saśrīdhara hr̥ṣīkapāḥ। nr̥siṁhaścācyutaścaiva vāmādhaḥkaraśaṅkhinaḥ ॥26॥
      Forms of lord Gōvinda, lord Trivikrama, lord Shrīdhara, lord Hrishikēsha, lord Nrisimha, and lord Achyuta hold a conch in their lower left hand.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.027
      vāmanaḥ sanārāyaṇaḥ padmanābha upēndrakaḥ। hariḥ kr̥ṣṇaśca dakṣādhaḥkarē śaṅkhadharā matāḥ ॥27॥
      Forms of lord Vāmana, lord Nārāyana, lord Padmanābha, lord Upēndra, lord Hari, and lord Krishna hold a conch in their lower right hand.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.028
      śaṅkhacakragadāpadmadharāścaitē hi sarvaśaḥ। kramavyutkramapadmādi gadādivyutkramastathā। ardhakramaḥ sāntaraśca ṣaṭsu ṣaṭsvaripūrviṇām ॥28॥
      They are all (24 forms) carrying conches, discs, clubs, and lotuses always. They are holding lotus in order and then in reverse order, then the club in reverse order, then in half order, then in intervals, grouped in six of the six preceding six vowels.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.029
      varṇānāṁ dēvatānāṁ ca nityatvānna kramaḥ svataḥ। vyaktikramaṁ brahmabuddhau apēkṣya krama ucyatē ॥29॥
      The forms of the lord are not in the order of either alphabets, nor in the order of the forms, as they are ever existing on their own. The order of narration is said to be as it appeared to the intellect of lord Brahma.

      [samāsavyāsayōgēna vyāhr̥tyādīnāṁ catuṣṭayam। satyaṁ cāṅgāni tārasya prōcyantē aṣṭākṣarasya ca। kruddhamahāvīra dyusahasrasahitōlkakāḥ ॥30॥]
      caturthyantā hr̥dādīni pr̥thagrūpāṇi tāni ca। viṣṇōrēvātyabhēdēpi tadaiśvaryāt tadanyavat ॥31॥
      "BhurBhuvavahSvah" - is the combined vyahriti; "Buhu", "Bhuvaha", and "Suvaha" are the divided vyahrtis. These four, along with the word 'Satya', are used for the Taraka mantra (Ōm), for instilling deity in body parts, starting from heart. For pronouncing the eight letter mantra (Ōm Namō Nārāyanāya), the divine forms the lord Vishnu, Krudha (angry), Mahā (the great), Vīra (Valorous), Dyu (luminous), Sahasra (thousand), in conjunction with 'ulka', i.e. shooting star are used. These forms are non-different from His opulence, or Him.

      cakraśaṅkhavarābhīti hastānyētāni sarvaśaḥ। mūlarūpasavarṇāni kr̥ṣṇavarṇā śikhōcyatē। caturviṁśanmūrtayaśca mūlarūpasavarṇakāḥ ॥32॥
      The all mighty is holding the disk, conch, boon sign, and not-to-fear sign in the (four) hands. This original form is dark, adorned with a crown on the head and gold ornaments. The twenty-four forms (representing the 24 letters of Gayatri mantra) are also similar to original form and colour.
    • Tantra Sāra 1.033
      ādivarṇatrayaṁ nābhihr̥cchirassu yathākramam। nyasanīyaṁ ca tadvarṇadēvatādhyānapūrvakam ॥33॥
      The three primal syllables (Ā, Ū, Ma) must be placed in proper order at the navel, the heart, and the head, by meditating on the gods of those respective syllables.

    सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
    "The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
