Perform the offerings to universal gods (Vaishadeva) and cleansing of directions (Baliharana) every day with faith. Offer the items that are dear, given, offered, muttered, rewarded, including all those that are dear: the wife, children, and even one’s own life itself, in His service.
Note:
According to tradition, a householder hould offer the food to the lord, then to all the governing deities (Vaishadeva), and then perform the cleansing of directions (Baliharana). One should serve the offered food to guests and then have it.
Vaishadeva is an offering done to all the governing deities, thanking them for enabling one to lead life. There is a detailed procedure on how the offering needs to be made using the fire sacrifice. In simple terms, one can recite the following verse, and mentally offer the food to governing deities, thanking them.
ॐ विश्वेभ्यो देवेभ्यः स्वाः। विश्वेभ्यो देवेभ्यः इदं न मम॥
oṁ viśvebhyo devebhyaḥ svāḥ। viśvebhyo devebhyaḥ idaṁ na mama॥
"Ōm! All the deities of the universe, please partake. This is for all the deities of the universe, not mine."
Baliharana is a process of cleansing all directions by offering food to deities, daemons, and ancestors present in various directions. The summary view is for conceptual understanding only. For details, refer to other books.
