Invocation

सह नाववतु। सह नौ भुनक्तु। सह वीर्यं कारवावहै। तेजस्विनावधीतमस्तु। मा विद्विषावहै॥

saha nau avatu. saha nau bhunaktu. saha vīryaṁ kāravāvahai. tejasvinau adhītam astu. mā vidviṣāvahai॥

[सह (saha) - together; नौ (nau) - both of us; अवतु (avatu) - may protect.] [सह (saha) - together; नौ (nau) - both of us; भुनक्तु (bhunaktu) - may nourish or enjoy.] [सह (saha) - together; वीर्यं (vīryaṁ) - strength; कारवावहै (kāravāvahai) - may we do or perform.] [तेजस्विनौ (tejasvinau) - radiant or brilliant (both of us); अधीतम् (adhītam) - studied or learnt; अस्तु (astu) - let it be.] [मा (mā) - let not; विद्विषावहै (vidviṣāvahai) - may we hate (each other).]

May He protect both of us together. May He nourish both of us together. May we work together with great energy. May our study be enlightening. May we not hate one another.

॥ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः॥

oṁ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ॥

[ॐ (oṁ) - sacred syllable; शान्तिः (śāntiḥ) - peace; शान्तिः (śāntiḥ) - peace; शान्तिः (śāntiḥ) - peace]

Om. Peace, peace, peace.

Bhāṣya Invocation

Obeisance to that Supreme Lord Vāmana who is beyond all, who dwells in the hearts of all beings.

॥ हरिः ॐ॥

hariḥ oṁ॥

[हरिः (hariḥ) - Lord Hari or Vishnu; ॐ (oṁ) - sacred syllable]

Hari is Om.

नमो भगवते तस्मै सर्वतः परमाय ते। सर्वप्राणिहृदिस्थाय वामनाय नमो नमः॥

namo bhagavate tasmai sarvataḥ paramāya te. sarvapraāṇihṛdisthāya vāmanāya namo namaḥ॥

[नमः (namaḥ) - obeisance; भगवते (bhagavate) - to the Lord; तस्मै (tasmai) - to Him; सर्वतः (sarvataḥ) - beyond all; परमाय (paramāya) - supreme; ते (te) - to You.] [सर्वप्राणि (sarvapraāṇi) - in all beings; हृदिस्थाय (hṛdisthāya) - abiding in the heart; वामनाय (vāmanāya) - to Vāmana; नमः (namaḥ) - obeisance; नमः (namaḥ) - obeisance.]

Obeisance to that Supreme Lord who is beyond all; to You. To Vāmana, who dwells in the hearts of all beings—obeisance, again and again.
