नायमात्मा प्रवचनेन लभ्यो न मेधया न बहुना श्रुतेन। यमेवैष वृणुते तेन लभ्यः तस्यैष आत्मा विवृणुते तनूं स्वाम् ॥२३॥

nāyam ātmā pravacanena labhyo na medhayā na bahunā śrutena। yam eva eṣa vṛṇute tena labhyaḥ tasya eṣa ātmā vivṛṇute tanūṁ svām ॥23॥

[न (na) - not; अयम् (ayam) - this; आत्मा (ātmā) - ātmā; प्रवचनेन (pravacanena) - by discourse; लभ्यः (labhyaḥ) - is attainable; न (na) - not; मेधया (medhayā) - by intellect; न (na) - not; बहुना (bahunā) - by much; श्रुतेन (śrutena) - hearing;। यम् (yam) - whom; एव (eva) - alone; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this (Self); वृणुते (vṛṇute) - chooses; तेन (tena) - by him; लभ्यः (labhyaḥ) - is attainable; तस्य (tasya) - to him; एषः (eṣaḥ) - this; आत्मा (ātmā) - Self; विवृणुते (vivṛṇute) - reveals; तनूम् (tanūm) - the form; स्वाम् (svām) - his own;॥]

This Ātmā is not attainable by discourse, nor by intellect, nor by much hearing. It is attainable only by the one whom It chooses; to him, this Ātmā reveals Its own form.
