B.G 10.21
आदित्यानामहं विष्णुर्ज्योतिषां रविरंशुमान्। मरीचिर्मरुतामस्मि नक्षत्राणामहं शशी ॥२१॥
Among the Ādityas, I am Viṣṇu; among luminous bodies, I am the radiant Sun; among the Maruts, I am Marīci; among the stars, I am the Moon.
Gīta Bhāshya 10.21
He is called 'Viṣṇu' because he is the: mover of all beings and creatures, pervades the heavens and the earth, supreme splendor, dwells in the beings, their intentionality, and traverser. Root 'viṣlṛ' means to pervade, and 'viśa' means to enter.
विष्णुः सर्वव्यापित्वप्रवेशित्वादेः।
He is called 'Viṣṇu' because of his all-pervading and penetrative nature.
"विष्लृ व्याप्तौ, विश प्रवेशने"
"'viṣlṛ' means to pervade, and 'viśa' means to enter."
इति च पठन्ति।
- thus is the recitation.
"गतिश्च सर्वभूतानां प्रजानां चापि भारत। व्याप्तौ मे रोदसी पार्थ कान्तिश्चाभ्यधिका मम॥ अधिभूतनिविष्टश्च तदिच्छुश्चास्मि भारत। क्रमणाच्चाप्यहं पार्थ विष्णुरित्यभिसञ्ज्ञितः॥"
"O Bhārata, I am the mover of all beings and creatures; I pervade the heavens and the earth; my splendor is supreme; I dwell in the beings and am their intentionality too; and I traverse - O Pārtha, Hence I am known as Viṣṇu."
इति मोक्षधर्मे ॥२१॥
