Bhagavad Gīta Bhāshya and Tātparya
B.G 6.16
नात्यश्नतस्तु योगोऽस्ति न चैकान्तमनश्नतः। न चातिस्वप्नशीलस्य जाग्रतो नैव चार्जुन ॥१६॥
nātyaśnatastu yogo'sti na caikāntamanaśnataḥ। na cātisvapnaśīlasya jāgrato naiva cārjuna ॥16॥
[न अति अश्नतः तु योगः अस्ति न च एकान्तम् अनश्नतः। न च अति स्वप्न शीलस्य जाग्रतो न एव च अर्जुन॥
न (na) - Not; अत्यश्नतः (aty-aśnataḥ) - of one who eats too much; तु (tu) - but; योगः (yogaḥ) - yoga; अस्ति (asti) - exists; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; एकान्तम् (ekāntam) - extremes; अनश्नतः (anaśnataḥ) - of one who eats too little; न (na) - not; च (ca) - and; अति (ati) - excessive; स्वप्नशीलस्य (svapnaśīlasya) - of one inclined to sleep; जाग्रतः (jāgrataḥ) - awake; न (na) - not; एव (eva) - certainly; च (ca) - and; आर्जुन (ārjuna) - O Arjuna.]
O Arjuna, Yoga is not for one who eats too much, nor for one who does not eat at all; it is not for one who sleeps too much, nor for one who stays awake excessively.
Gīta Bhāshya 6.16
The prohibition of fasting, etc. is for the incapable only. The capable must engage in meditation, abandoning laziness, sleep, eating, and fear.
अनशनादिनिषेधः अशक्तस्य। उक्तं हि -
anaśanādiniṣedhaḥ aśaktasya। uktaṁ hi -
[अनशनादिनिषेधः (anaśanādiniṣedhaḥ) - Prohibition of fasting, etc.; अशक्तस्य (aśaktasya) - for the incapable.]
The prohibition of fasting, etc. is for the incapable. It is said:
"निद्राशनभयश्वासचेष्टातन्द्रादिवर्जनम्। कृत्वा निमीलिताक्षस्तु शक्तो ध्यायन् प्रसीदति॥"
"nidrāśanabhayaśvāsaceṣṭātandrādivarjanam। kr̥tvā nimīlitākṣastu śakto dhyāyan prasīdati॥"
[निद्रा (nidrā) - Sleep; आशन (āśana) - Eating; भय (bhaya) - Fear; श्वास (śvāsa) - Breathing; चेष्टा (ceṣṭā) - Actions; अतन्द्रा (atandrā) - absence of laziness; अदि (adi) - etc.; वर्जनम् (varjanam) - avoidance; कृत्वा (kṛtvā) - having done; निमीलिताक्षः (nimīlitākṣaḥ) - with closed eyes; तु (tu) - but; शक्तः (śaktaḥ) - able; ध्यायन् (dhyāyan) - meditating; प्रसीदति (prasīdati) - is successful.]
"The one who is capable of meditating with closed eyes, avoiding laziness, sleep, eating, fear, and breathing activities, becomes successful."
इति नारदीये ॥१६॥
iti nāradīye ॥16॥
[इति (iti) - thus; नारदीये (nāradīye) - in the Nārada Purāṇa.]

बहुचित्रजगद्बहुधाकरणात् परशक्तिरनन्तगुणः परमः ।
सुखरूपममुष्य पदं परमं स्मरतस्तु भविष्यति तत्सततम् ॥
"The one who has created this variegated vast universe with varied forms has infinite power and is of infinite auspicious qualities. He certainly bestows the highest state of bliss to those who meditate on his ever happy essence." -Dwādasha stōtra 4.3
