B.G 3.09
यज्ञार्थात् कर्मणोन्यत्र लोकोयं कर्मबन्धनः। तदर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर ॥९॥
yajñārthāt karmaṇōnyatra lōkōyaṁ karmabandhanaḥ। tadarthaṁ karma kauntēya muktasaṅgaḥ samācara ॥9॥
[यज्ञार्थात् कर्मणः अन्यत्र लोकः अयं कर्मबन्धनः। तत् अर्थं कर्म कौन्तेय मुक्तसङ्गः समाचर॥
yajñārthāt = sacrifice, as a worship to lord; karmaṇaḥ = actions performed; anyatra = otherwise; lōkaḥ = world; ayaṁ = this; karmabandhanaḥ = bondage due to action; tat arthaṁ = for his sake; karma = perform actions; kauntēya = O Arjuna; muktasaṅgaḥ = free from attachment; samācara = practice with equanimity;]
Actions must be performed as a sacrifice to worship the Lord. Otherwise, actions performed for the wordly sake lead to bondage. So, practice actions without attachment, with equanimity, for His sake.
Gīta Bhāshya 3.09
'Yajna' - action performed for the sake of lord Vishnu. Action performed for the sake of lord Vishnu, with 'muktasaṅga', i.e. free from attachment, does not lead to bondage.
"कर्मणा बध्यते जन्तुः"
"karmaṇā badhyatē jantuḥ"
[karmaṇā = by actions; badhyatē = is bound; jantuḥ = a being;]
"A being is bound by actions."
इति कर्म बन्धकं स्मृतं इत्यत आह - यज्ञार्थात् इति। कर्म बन्धनं यस्य लोकस्य सः कर्मबन्धनः। यज्ञो विष्णुः । यज्ञार्थं सङ्गरहितं कर्म न बन्धकम् इत्यर्थः। 'मुक्तसङ्ग' इति विशेषणात्।
[iti karma bandhakaṁ smr̥taṁ ityata āha - yajñārthāt iti। karma bandhanaṁ yasya lōkasya saḥ karmabandhanaḥ। yajñō viṣṇuḥ । yajñārthaṁ saṅgarahitaṁ karma na bandhakam ityarthaḥ। 'muktasaṅga' iti viśēṣaṇāt।]
iti = such; karma = to action; bandhakaṁ = attribute bondage; smr̥taṁ = are testimonials; ityata = therefore; āha = is said; yajñārthāt iti = 'yajñārthāt' i.e. 'for the sake of Yajna' verse;। karma bandhanaṁ = bondage due to action is for; yasya = who performs; lōkasya = for the sake of the wordly; saḥ = he; karmabandhanaḥ = bound by his actions; yajñō = 'yajña' means; viṣṇuḥ = lord Vishnu; yajñārthaṁ = for the sake of 'Yajna'; saṅgarahitaṁ = without attachment; karma = performed action; na = is not; bandhakam = result in bondage; ityarthaḥ = is the meaning; 'muktasaṅga' = i.e 'free from attachment' iti viśēṣaṇāt = hence the adjective;
Such testimonials attribute bondage to action. Hence, it is said in the verse - 'yajñārthāt' i.e. 'for the sake of Yajna'.
'Bondage due to action' is for the one who performs an action for the sake of this world. 'Yajna' means lord Vishnu. "The action performed for the sake of Yajna,(i.e lord Vishnu), without attachment (to the wordly affair) will not cause bondage" - is the meaning. Hence, the adjective 'muktasaṅga', i.e. 'free from attachment', is specially used.
"कामान् यः कामयते"
इति श्रुतेश्च।
"kāmān yaḥ kāmayatē"
iti śrutēśca।
[kāmān = material desires; yaḥ = one who; kāmayatē = desires;]

"One who desires material desires"

"अनिष्टमिष्टम्" इति वक्ष्यमाणत्वाच्च। "एतान्यपि तु कर्माणि" इति च।
"aniṣṭamiṣṭam" iti vakṣyamāṇatvācca। "ētānyapi tu karmāṇi" iti ca।
[aniṣṭamiṣṭam = 'aniṣṭamiṣṭam' 18.12 verse; iti vakṣyamāṇatvācca = also states so. "ētānyapi tu karmāṇi" iti ca = Same is told also in 18.6 (ētānyapi tu karmāṇi) verse;]
The verse 18.12 (aniṣṭamiṣṭam) states the same. It is also reiterated in 18.6 (ētānyapi tu karmāṇi) verse.
"तस्मान्नेष्टियाजुकः स्यात्"
इति च।
"tasmānnēṣṭiyājukaḥ syāt"
iti ca।
["tasmānnēṣṭiyājukaḥ =one should not give up one's duties or responsibilities willingly; syāt = therefore;]

"Therefore, one should not give up one's duties or responsibilities willingly."

विशेषवचनत्वे समेपि विशेषणं परिशिष्यते ॥९॥
viśēṣavacanatvē samēpi viśēṣaṇaṁ pariśiṣyatē ॥9॥
[viśēṣavacanatvē samēpi = in the special equal statements; viśēṣaṇaṁ pariśiṣyatē = the adjective qualifier persists;]
In the case of special equal statements, the one with the adjective qualifier (i.e. 'muktasaṅga', 'free from attachment') persists.
Gīta Tātparya 3.09
'Jna' means lord Vishnu. 'Yajna' means prescribed duties to be performed for lord Vishnu's sake.
"कर्मणा बध्यते जन्तुः"
"karmaṇā badhyatē jantuḥ"
["karmaṇā = from action; badhyatē = are bound; jantuḥ = beings"]
"Beings are bound by action."
इत्यादिकमपि अवैष्णवकर्मविषयमित्याह - यज्ञार्थादिति।
ityādikamapi avaiṣṇavakarmaviṣayamityāha - yajñārthāditi।
[ityādikamapi = these are; avaiṣṇavakarmaviṣayamityāha = meant for non Vaishnava actions, Hence it is told; yajñārthāditi = perform action for the sake of 'Yajna';]
Such statements are meant for non Vaishnava actions. Hence in the 'Yajna' verse it is told, perform action for the sake of 'Yajna'.
"ज्ञो नाम भगवान् विष्णुः तं यात्युद्देश एष यः। स यज्ञ इति सम्प्रोक्तो विहिते कर्मणि स्थितः॥"
इति बर्कश्रुतिः ॥९॥
"jñō nāma bhagavān viṣṇuḥ taṁ yātyuddēśa ēṣa yaḥ। sa yajña iti samprōktō vihitē karmaṇi sthitaḥ॥"
iti barkaśrutiḥ ॥9॥
["jñō nāma bhagavān viṣṇuḥ = lord Vishnu is known by the name 'jñō'; taṁ yātyuddēśa = for the purpose of him; ēṣa yaḥ = that which; sa yajña = is 'Yajna'; iti samprōktō = thus it is told; vihitē karmaṇi = prescribed duties; sthitaḥ = are stationed;]

"Lord Vishnu is known by the name 'Jna' (the knowledgeable). The stated prescribed duties to be performed for His sake are said to be 'Yajna'."
